What are the best 2nd hand business laptops other than lenovos?
Anything to look out for buying used?
How do I know that the battery life hasnt decayed?

Dells

Just broke this on my x220. Do I buy a new bottom, new battery, new charger and FHD mod OR buy new laptop with 1080p

Just use glue on it.

I did but the material is extremely cheap. The small piece shattered into 2 more pieces while I was holding it into place just from the pressure of my thumb and forefinger.

should I buy a 100$ thinkpad or just stick with my Lattitude e6400

Im going to buy a T400 for college?
Anything in special i need to see?

Led blacklight.
No Passwords.
Good looking, no cracks.
2GB RAM P8600 for $60.

Its a good deal right? im trying to ask for the type serial but the guy keeps avoiding it, good thing the site i will buy it through lets me fuck over the guy if he doesn't tell me before sending it.

Also what was the site to check the Type codes?
It used to be in the OP but it doesnt anymore.

I want to upgrade my Wireless PCIe card to something that doesn't require non-free frimware and came across: amazon.com/Wireless-AR5BHB92-Dual-band-802-11b-Toshiba/dp/B009HN63QQ

However it doesn't have bluetooth. Any suggestions for a Wireless PCIe card with bluetooth will be great. Thanks!

Saddest part about it is I kept it in pristine condition, so there's no scratches or blemishes anywhere else. I just want a solid linux machine that's 1080p. Can't be assed to do another semester of assignments in 3-5 workspaces.

hp elitebooks, dell latitudes and precisions

>Anything to look out for buying used?
supervisor passwords, computrace, intel anti-theft, lojack, those kinds of things
>How do I know that the battery life hasnt decayed?
yolo, unless you want to spend a couple hours running a battery gauge reset or recalibration before buying it

if you can get him to send a picture of the bottom of the laptop it you should be able to find the model number and serial number

then just stick the serial number in here, I think this is what you're asking for

Why is tp.krelay.de/ dead? It has been for a while apparently.

My girlfriend loves her x220 Tablet! She got it for $130 on ebay, and it's in pretty great shape!

I have a T430, and I'm wondering if there's a way to put a 1080p screen in it. I've already put 8 gigs of RAM, 2 SSD's and an extended battery on it. But 1600x900 is just disgusting.

so i just got a brand new genuine 9-cell for my t420 but i can't get the 10 hours of battery life i hoped for. i'm running arch. are there any tweaks i can do to improve my battery life?

Hi, I needed to post thanks from the previous thread since im such a good good boy

decrease screen brightness
after that, try to use the least cpu possible

Its not, it was a simpler site, i think it was this site:

i'm sure she would love pic related for her birthday

I can get a refurb t430 for 250 usd after taxes and shipping, should I do it?

specs? you can find them cheaper

i5 3320, 4GB ram and a 128GB ssd

My new W530 is way better than I thought it would be. 1080p @ 50+ fps on high settings.

Not too bad for a little over $300.

>thinkpad for gaming
You don't belong here.

> Specs in pic
Alright lads, I am very new to Thinkpads, let me just clear something up, (I am an idiot). I have a large budget right now because I am currently neet status, and I have been looking at a super beefin P71. Is it too overkill though? I dont mind paying 4000 dollars if it is reliable and powerful, and I feel like it is very future proof. I will probably only be using it for CS/Krita, Flash/Toonboom, and some very mild gaymen. Would you call this a stupid purchase for what I need?

>Would you call this a stupid purchase for what I need?

yep, you do not want or need a quadro gpu or xeon cpu, they are worse than i7/geforce gpu for what you're using it for

and 17" laptops are ridiculous, it weighs almost 8 lbs and it has a huge power brick to go with it, if you want or need mobility in the future you will want to buy something else

friend is looking for a laptop for $650

Hes about to get one on newegg for that price, 15.4 inch 1080p
i7 6300U
8gb Ram
1tb HDD 128gb SSD
2gb 1050 GPU

Anything better for the price he can get it for?

Why does /tpg/ hate tablets?

>I have more money than sense
get something ike a t470 and build a workstation.

i've stopped liking mine after using it for two years. its laggy, heats up pretty quick and horrible battery life. guess i'll drill some holes at the bottom for better cooling before shelling out for a new laptop

t470 would be better purchase? Thanks man, and yeah. I have a bit of the dumbs when it comes to this stuff.

Well for me it would be a better buy.

Sure, a maxxed p71 is really powerful but IMO it doesn't make sense as a laptop. Thing is massive and huge.

The t470 has good specs and is portable.

If you really need performance you should have a workstation

for

where the fuck are you where t430s cost anywhere near $500?
You should easily be able to get them for $200-$300
and if you are talking about the quadcore i7 then fuck no
my t430 only has a dualcore i5 and it throttles terribly any time the gpu thinks about being under load
if specs are the only things that matters to him then no
you don't buy "premium" or "business" laptops for the price to performance and you are retarded if you even consider it

ebay ;-;
I'm a poor college student I just want to be able to run anti aliased 2015 solidworks for less than 500 bucks

>forgot
I'm seeing them for ~400 on ebay, and im just rounding up to 5 to factor in the inevitable RAM, ssd, or battery upgrade

$330 for i7 and nvs 5400m
ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T430-laptop-Core-i7-3-6GHZ-1600X900-NVIDIA-500GB-8GB-/122388317283?hash=item1c7ee98463:g:FRYAAOSw-0xYgJh2

>win10

thanks user

Im buying an used w510, but im afraid that the old gpu (which is probably useless nowadays) could drain all the battery (which probably is shit by now). What I need most is a durable battery.
What can I do about it?

it's you who don't belong here, aspie
There is nothing wrong with gayming on thinkpad, especially if its equipped with egpu

reading is hard
>O/S: Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit - windows 10 pro 64 bit as you choose
buy a t420/30 instead
don't buy older w series they're a waste of power and space

Would you guys rec a T440 or T440p over something newer like an Acer Aspire E5-575-539R? I can get one of the used thinkpads for for about $324 and the Aspire for $150 more.

Some guy told me that getting a rx460 as egpu is a mistake. Why? Will it work on pe4c?

I'd personally just buy the casing for it; you can usually find one pretty cheap on eBay or maybe even Amazon. Failing that, buy a bricked one and tear that apart.

It would be a good excuse to buy a new laptop though if that's what you're looknig for. I probably would desu.

she thicc

Go for it, if you'd like. I was going to type a real snarky comment, but in all honesty I'm just jelly.

Even if you don't use all its power all the time, if you want it you should get it. Besides, it'd open you up to more opportunities later if you want to start video rendering and the like.

Thinking of buying this, not experienced with buying used laptops

ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T430s-laptop-i7-3520M-8G-RAM-128G-SSD-HD-14-LED-1600x900-Res-/292122690001?epid=2134876373&hash=item4403de81d1:g:I-QAAOSwA3dYlnSS#rwid

Would rec y/n?

I have a T400 with a P8400 and the HD3470.

Throw 8GB of RAM and an SSD in it and it'll perform as good or better than modern laptops in 99.9r% of applications. Supports Libreboot as well if that's your jam (although you'll lose access to the dedicated AMD GPU if yours has one and you'll be stuck with the integrated Intel trash).

> Not taking time to enjoy interactive entertainment after your work is finished

If all you do is play games all day than yeah you're a degenerate, but it's nice having the ability to get some gaming in while not having to compromise on your notebook selection.

What the fuck else are you supposed to do when you're stuck in some Motel 6 in the middle of nowhere in some flyover state shithole on a business trip?

how much in real money?

That is $357. Then again thinkpads are supposedly expensive anywhere but the USA.

nah m8, that's too much imo. Specially for a t430s, which is kind of shit.

the i7, won't make much of a difference. It's still a dualcore with higher clockspeeds.

This man speaks the truth.

In the suggestions I noticed this one, for example, a much better deal:
ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-T430-FAST-LAPTOP-i5-3320M-2-6GHZ-8GB-160GB-SSD-DVDRW-14-win-7/282548447911

>ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-T430-FAST-LAPTOP-i5-3320M-2-6GHZ-8GB-160GB-SSD-DVDRW-14-win-7/282548447911

Ah I see, there were heaps of T430 going for cheaper, I guess the i7 doesnt matter

Not really. Unless it's a really good deal. I bought my T430 (i7 and Nvidia) for ~300€. More than that would be too much.
I also bought a T420 (i5, integrated graphics) for my wife, and it runs really well.

Wb a t440 or t440p, I've heard the trackpads are terrible but I have a mouse anyway so its not really a dealbreaker. I can get one for about 350 AUD

I work in a T540p, I can confirm that the trackpads are shit, but yeah, with a propper mouse, it's a great machine.

avoid, t440, get the t440p

Try applying new thermal paste. Just did that with my x200 and x201. The OEM application was chalk after 7+ years lol.

Just a little~ B)

Will 2x8GB Kingston LV ram work in a X230?

So it's between:

T440p 8GB, i7-4600m, 500GB HDD
$324

pb-tech.com.au/product/EXNBKLEN443/ThinkPad-T440p-Notebook-OFF-LEASE-Intel-Core-i7-46

and

T430 8GB, i5 3320M, 160GB SSD
$200

ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-T430-FAST-LAPTOP-i5-3320M-2-6GHZ-8GB-160GB-SSD-DVDRW-14-win-7-/282548447911?hash=item41c9332aa7:g:wnEAAOSw-kdXy4CA

The T440p looks good to me, for that price, I'd go with it.

Is there any way to force sleep on these things, or is ot that if they're frozen your only recourse is to force shutdown like every other laptop?

Should i enable Trusted Execution Technology and HP Dynamic Protection?

I'm looking to get a cheap ass laptop for some casual web browsing and media watching in bed and when I travel. I already have a powerful desktop for all my power usage needs.
Any recommendations on thinkpads or thinkpad like laptops?
My requirements are:
>1080p ips screen, or at least upgrade-able to one -easily-
>battery life can be bad, as long as I can get a solid 2 hours out of it
>easy to open up and get in 8gb of ram and an SSD
>able to plug into an HDMI television. IIRC mini-displayport can work with a simple converter cable
>at least Sandybridge or later. Preferably around Haswell but this is something I can compromise on.
>USB 3.0 is a huge plus
Budget is literally unlimited, but preferably cheaper than a brand new low-end laptop. I guess around $250 or so, not including the upgrade parts I'd want.

So far it's kind of looking like my best option is a X230. Newegg is selling a 2.6ghz one for $189, which would give me a little wiggle room so I can comfortably get a 250gb ssd instead of doing the disc drive swap method for running 2 drives. The only downside is that it looks like the screen upgrade is a bitch on the x230.

Why is it so hard to find an X230 that anything other than i5-3320m? Isn't worth waiting around for something better to get listed or would it not be worth the extra cost?

1080p IPS screens begin only on the universally reviled *40 series. X230 is able to accept a 2K mod but you'll have to get a converter board from the chinks at 51nb.

The main purpose was not for gaming. It was just a nice surprise that it could handle it.

What is best cpu upgrade for t520 without house fire risk?

>Is there any way to force sleep on these things

Please respond, my meek W510 hasn't been useable since I woke, so I'd rather force shutdown instead of keeping a frozen machine on in summer heat.

dual core i7-2620M, no quad core because that's the definition of housefire risk

I went ahead and forced shutdown anyway but still.

ive done that and clean out the fan. the temperature still easily goes up to 70℃+ maybe a better fan? I've read on 51nb that toshiba fan works better? right now, i have to turn on my standing fan to act as a better exhaust system

X131e, is it any good? I've got a deal for 120-ish USD

Specs:

Intel Celeron
4GB RAM
1TB HDD
11.5inches screen

SHOULD I BITE? I want to, just because of the HDD (I can shove a 512GB in and use the 1TB as external)

Not sure about the x220's so much yet, I know my x201 only ever would heat up to 50°C, so your claim to 70°C+ is certainly not a good temp. I have yet to test the x201 or the x200 with the new paste but I assume it'll be better given the condition of the OEM paste…

Also, if a Thinkpad fan forum gave you advice on a new fan, they're probably right. The threads I've found and followed have yet to steer me wrong. Give it a try if it'a not too expensive, why not? Better than drilling holes in your chassis.

I'm going to have to buy a laptop for programming and shit. I also want to play a few old games on it for when I have free time. I'll be playing San Andreas (so it needs to have relatively high single core performance) and morrowind. What model ThinkPad do you recommend? (20-30fps is entirely playable in my books)

Both can run on integrated graphics btw. They need at least 3gb of ram but I'll get 4 out of convenience

Dang bruh. Did you get the one with the k2000m? I wasn't able to find one.

Budget: £250-300
Location: England
Size: ~14"
Performance: can run Vidya made in 2005 -2007 with ease (I hope this is in the price range)
Other: I could upgrade the CPU if I save up for another few months.

wouldn't bite for $40

>℃
>51nb
fuck off chinky

>being a gweilo
enjoy your cancer tier 1366x768 screens laowai

heheh 仆街

That's more than enough to buy you a T430 with Nvidia.
I have one and played GTA V all the way on it, so it should fill more than your needs.

ya i should get a new fan first then. trying to squeeze more performance out of it before getting a new one

oh be nice. they are mad because they can't send in their chickpads for 2k panel upgrade

What is this 2k panel upgrade you speak of?

someone on 51nb figure how to put a 2k sharp panel onto the x220, x230, t420(s), t430(s). same guy who did the fhd mod. seems like he is routing the display port onto a custom made board and work similar to the fhd mod

panel used for the 2k mod

Get a Fujitsu Digitizer Pen. Has much better pressure sensitivity

...

Is there any way to get a 90 degree charging cable for my T510? I hate getting jabbed by it.

>not having a powerful desktop and using steam in home streaming over ethernet

You done fucked it up son, my T520 has a 1080Ti and 3770K.

Thanks user! I'll let her know! She was indeed complaining about the stock pen and considered upgrading.

OK lads! Here's a question for you all-
T420 with i5 3320m(coreboot) or t430(same CPU/gpu). Who wins at same price?

kek

the T430 also has USB 3.0, also being slightly newer it's more likely to be in better condition and have a better battery

Whats your keyboard preference? If indifferent t430

>not replacing the keyboard and flashing the bios
