Do non-native english-speakers understand the difference between loneliness, solitude, and isolation?

do non-native english-speakers understand the difference between loneliness, solitude, and isolation?

yes. norwegian doesn't distinguish between loneliness and solitude, but we do have the word isolation (isolasjon).

the idea of solitude is usually expressed with more than one word.

well no shit other germanic speakers understand it
i'm talking about wu-shan from guongdong prefecture

We have words for all three:
Solitude - samota, loneliness - osamelosť, isolation - izolácia.

Wu-shan probably can't answer since the PRC cannot access Sup Forums

I know 50 words to describe different kinds of loneliness

isolated can be like a single cell of bacteria on a petri dish, it's a more rational, clinical term

lonely is someone who hungers for company

solitude is just a poetic word for isolation

>?????
>soledad
>aislamiento

Loneliness y solitude vienen siendo lo mismo en Español.

Solitude - samota
Loneliness - osamljenost, osama
Isolation - osamitev, izolacija

Loneliness is more of a psychological condition, the yearning for social connection
Solitude is being physically remote from other people, and doesn't carry negative connotations like the other two
Isolation is generally for longer periods than solitude, and often carries negative connotations. It's like a harsher, sometimes enforced, form of solitude.

yes

smart jew

how are the concepts expressed in jewspeak?

yes they can
we have a few chinese posters

Catalan

-Desolació
-Solitud/Soledat
-Isolació

muh saudade

loneliness is feeling of lack of human contact
isolation is layer of styrofoam on your house to keep you warm during winter
solitude is what's superman's house is made of

How can you confuse these things? I mean, superman probably could use isolation, if I remeber correctly his house is on the north pole, right?

Yes I understood the difference between those definitions after I read Kastaneda.

Poorly. Modern Hebrew is a very young language without many speakers, so it's nowhere near English when it comes to the richness of the vocabulary. You guys are pretty fortunate.

Loneliness means you're lonely.
Solitude means you're alone but not neccesseraly lonely.
I think isolation is long-term solitude

do you realise those words are actually french right?

Solitude and isolation are french words, so yes.

lolneliness = 孤独、ひとりぼっち、or something like those
isolation = 孤立、or 隔絶・隔離 if you use it in the context like "isolated facility"
solitude = dont know it off the top my head. i reserached it now and its another topic but i couldnt find a similar word 孤高, which means solitude + lofty/noble, in english

solitude is the french word for loneliness, so fuck you if you gave them two separate meanings.

Why are French people so insecure?

solitud

si,existe

yes? we're also human beings?

Nox et solitudo

But don't know the difference between a question mark and period.

Same in Italian.
Solitude and loneliness --> solitudine
Isolation --> isolamento
So, what is the difference between solitude and loneliness?

loneliness=feeling when you are alone and miss people
solitude=being actually alone

atleast i think

In English solitude simply means being alone. Loneliness in an emotional state of desiring social contact, general felt when alone.

Isolation implies a sense of control or intent behind it. It's something done to you, not simply a thing that happens. A man on an empty beach is solitary, a man in a windowless cell is isolated.

But "being actually alone" should be the meaning of "isolation". So we're missing something

Ok got it. Thanks.

the suffix "-itude" is used to form emotional states in french, so it implies loneliness.

>loneliness = גלמודיות
>Solitude = בדידות
>Isolation = בידוד

My Hebrew's not perfect, but those seem fine to me.

Loneliness is someone who is alone, and craves the company of others.

Solitude is the capital of Skyrim

Isolation is someone/thing which has been separated from everyone else.

In English the "-ly" has that effect, in some contexts. "Lone" just means by itself, "lonely" means by itself and doesnt like it.

>Solitude is the capital of Skyrim
Smirk/10, you live for today.

they can't stand that the northern barbarians are more successful than them so they try to take credit for everything we do

isolation: being stuck on your own for a long time
loneliness: wishing there were people around
solitude: being glad there's nobody to bother you

yeah, but we all think similarly due to our shared grammar which means it's easy for a speaker of one germanic language to learn another germanic language's nuances

Many langauges have words for these since we all are them.

No I don't know.Tell me please.

>many langauges have words for these since we all are them
>since we all are them
>we all are them
What did he mean by this?

Yes they can

I was in China recently, you can access the chan but only with a VPN

Nigga got Tanged.

I'm actually curious whether works

I'm intrigued. Do you think you could list some, and what they mean?
all of them are cognates of "kurwa"
solitude is when you're happy about being alone, loneliness is when you're sad about being alone, and solitude is just being alone

solitude has two meanings?
