I accidentally fast-formatted full-encrypted veracrypt usb drive. I can't even restore volume header.

How can I recovery it? I'm fucking dying.

>How can I recovery it?
You can't

> falling for the encryption meme

You best Star Trek captain collection is gone.

Fuck Fuck fuck fuck fuck

Even my KeePassX is GONE

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

FUCKING BOTNET 10 FORMATTED MY USB DRIVE

I'LL SUE MICROSOFT AND BILL GATES

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

fast format literally means only deleting headers. You cant recover it

wtf I can't recovery nothing? In usual case I heard I can restore something

How do you "accidentally" format a device? How retarded do you have to be to do something like that? Do you not know how to read?

If it wasn't encrypted you could

>How do you "accidentally" format a device?
By using Windows, which is known to randomly corrupt and automatically format flash drives

Not sure what kind of encryption you used on your usb but headers usually contain actual keys to decrypt the volume(and the password you have only decrypts the headers/keys), if the headers are gone (dleted/overwitten) then decrypting the volume is impossible even if its intact (like in fast format)

...And that's how most people learn to make backups. It usually takes another time make them check that the backups are actually possible to restore.

encryption is one part of keeping your data secure, the other part is backups/redundancy. learn from this user

>automatically format
Top kek my dude. It's not automatic if you have to click Yes.

>not keeping backups
You had this coming, user

or You can click "yes" accidentally.

could be worse. you didn't just receive a letter from the police like i did

ctrl-z
thanks me later

Sure, but that's your fault. Don't blame Windows because you can't click the correct button or take two minutes to Google "disable drive format message".

RESTORE FROM BACKUP

this is why keepass is a bad idea, now you know hone of your passwords

Looks like the only choice you have is to scrape all those darknet sites again to restore your cp folder.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

This guy apparently managed to recover from a quick format:
sourceforge.net/p/veracrypt/discussion/technical/thread/1b6f2b90/

On the other hand, if your header is actually b0rked, you probably don't have a chance. Sorry.

Actually what I store was how to forensic skills/delete/remove or hide files safely/keep my privacy anonymous

why not keeping backups is a bad idea

Also, have a look at this: veracrypt.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Program Menu#tools-restore-volume-header
Apparently the headers are automatically backed up for all non-system volumes.

I hope you didn't lose anything valuable OP

So worthless shit. Stop bitching and back it up next time

Nah, he just lost all of his 20-character passwords. Nothing too valuable.

Well there's always password recovery

OP here, only my entire pizza collection

Learn your shit, faggot.

>By using Windows, which is known to randomly corrupt and automatically format flash drives
I've have used Windows since 95 and it never once automatically formatted an usb. I know Sup Forums is anti Windows but still you're retarded.

Why would you put your encrypted KPX database on an encrypted volume and not fucking backup either of them?
Please stop storing your password databases locally if you can't even bother with backups. Use LastPass like a normal person.

Storing your shit in a single doubly encrypted database with no backups is retarded, but allowing password recovery on your main email account is 100x more retarded.

>windows never does "thing"
>this means it will never do "thing" even in windows 6,000,000 release

Windows does not automatically format drives.
t. Windows 10 user.

If it was Captain Picard then it was probably the best thing to happen to you.

>reddit

>sataniafag
Kys already. Not clicking that NSA honeypot by the way.

>source: my ass
at least you admit it user

how is it the best thing when you have to go through all those dodgy sites and redownload everything and risk being v&

...

This is the exact reason they recommend you use an encrypted file container stored on your usb rather than encrypting the USB.

But bitlocker is shit

>bitlocker is shit

Why would you reply with something so irrelevant? Veracrypt offers encrypted file containers.

>police
Don't leave us hanging. Why did they send you a letter?

>someone made this
fucking kek
thanks for the doujins anyways

You can't sue microsoft for any dataloss caused due to their software or updates. Read the terms of service idiot. You're data is fucked mate. All I could suggest is trying a data recovery proffessional. You are mist likely fucked though anyway.

it was basically a warning letter saying that X was happening in the area and that my car was spotted in that area. i read it 3 times before realising (through some internet research) that it was not a warning, fine or NIP (Notice of imminent prosecution) and that it was essentially a bollocks letter telling me that if they caught me doing this thing that i supposedly did again, i would be prosecuted.

brecon-radnor.co.uk/article.cfm?id=105333&headline=Police deter trespassers at Talgarth hospital§ionIs=news&searchyear=2017

to be honest, i thought they were after the loli collection when i first opened it.

Use a local teampass next time you stupid nigger.

How do you recommend "keeping backups"? Copying all your shit onto an external in the hopes that doesn't fail too? I'm not being an ass, I'm legit curious cuz I don't back up any of my shit right now.

Sorry, it's fucked.

That's what I do, except I tarball anything older than 6 months and delete the original.

Yeah, they don't send letters for that

well each person has their backup setup
i do the following
-backup all personal files to external drive monthly, including music and stuff
-backup a few rcs and more important config/personal files to dropbox daily( with crontab)
-backup everything from the former item + some misc stuff to a flash drive weekly

my data is safe from any apocalypse

>has a deep tragic backstory
>bullied at school

Find just one (1) example of Windows formatting a drive without the user clicking on something and I will immediately accept my status as BTFO.

When installing an os on a server, the cd drive was bad on, I used another hard drive.
I made a partition on the drive, unpacked the iso to it, and set the partition as Active so it booted the installer.
I then plugged that drive in the server, booted the installer, and installed windows to the proper disk inside the server.

After setting it up, I removed the installation drive and put the server in the rack. And it didn't fucking boot.

Windows, for whatever reason, put the MBR on my install disk. After making a MBR for the server on the correct drive in the server, which took hours, the MBR on the original drive was also fucked. I had to take more hours learning to fix that because it used grub.

That would work

I know that feel senpai.
I once lost everything to hdd failure and once to my own stupidity.
Yet I still don't backup, I'll never learn.

Why in the flying fuck would you use a partitioned drive as a bootable drive. That is a risky move and you can see why.

>lastpass
Nice try nsa

This is why you store your ENCRYPTED keepass file on da cloud

I used my main USB drive with a few OSs and tons of installers and other random shit.
Except this time I used the Sata interface because lol no USB boot

I did not understand the consequences even existed. Microsoft is next level retarded for that.
Didn't lose data though.

Oh no, how will I ever recover?

It looks like you found a bug in the Windows installer. Congratulations! You will however note that your scenario is very different from an already-installed Windows fucking up a USB drive for no reason.

585,000 Google results for "window corrupted my USB"
1.73 million for "windows automatically formatted my USB drive"
pretty sure you can find one example in 2 million results

>1.73 million
I can see why all those keywords would drag up that many results though

>no backups
you deserve everything you get cluck

>he didn't delete the drive letter so windows stops asking to format it when it's inserted
lol

No. It's why you should keep local backups of all your data: if shit like this happens, you just restore it from your backups
