Gaming PC

Hey, Sup Forums. My GameCube, XBox, Playstation 3, Wii U, and Switch have all proven to be great fun, but I want something more. This is why I have decided to save up for the next few months and then invest in a gaming PC!

I'm not too knowledgeable about parts and their compatibilities and whatnot, but I think these parts should work together.

How does this build look?

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
Mobo: ASUS Prime B250M-A LGA1151
RAM: Avant 166B 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM 2133 (PC17000) Desktop Memory
Storage: SanDisk 1TB Ultra II SATA III 2.5" Internal SSD
PSU: Corsair CX Series 650 Watt 80+ Bronze
Case: NZXT S340
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2

Does that seem good? Are there any parts that I'm forgetting? Do I need to go out and buy more fans or a case with water cooling instead? I'm not much into competitive gaming, or really even multiplayer gaming in general, so I'm just going to buy a $10 mouse and keyboard from walmart. I will be buying a monitor with ridiculously low response time, though.
Not only am I asking if this build will be compatible with all the parts listed, but I'm also curious as to how good it will be. Will the CPU bottleneck the GPU? Other way around? If so, what are better options? Should I get a better mobo? I want a computer that I won't have to upgrade for quite some time.

They all look compatible except the I7-7700k and your ASUS Prime B250M-A LGA1151 but that is ok because you can modify them really easily when you get them. Just take the cpu from its packaging and with a pair of metal pliers you have to bend the 3 top left metal pins till they snap off. Once you do that then it can be inserted and run smoothly.

Sarcasm. Got it.
Does that mean that this is a pants-on-head retarded build?

it means fuck off to the general and delete your shit thread

Sort of, you're pairing an unlocked CPU with a motherboard that cannot overclock, which defeats the purpose. Drop to a non-k cpu, or grab a Z270 board and oc it.
Do you also consider amd? They really outdone themselves this time and the R5 1600 is the current price/performance champion by a landslide. 6 cores/12 threads should hold you well for a while, and you don't even need a top of the line board, any B350 is good enough to overclock.

Thanks for the info!
Except, question. Do I overclock the board myself, or is it built into the board?

An overclocking "tool" if you will is built into the BIOS settings. But yes, you will have to set the clocks and voltages yourself.
Also:
They might be more willing to help.

Are you autistic? 7700k = Kaby "just rerelease Skylake" Lake = 1151LGA socket. I don't know what you're going on about. Go install Gentoo some more.

>Z270 board
how do I set clocks and voltages?

Most boards have auto oc options, but of course the results are better if you fine tune it yourself (many auto settings tend to throw more voltage than necessary, for instance).

Also on the rest of your build:
- Go ham of the memory, 2133 is baby tier, 2400 is the guaranteed minimum support today, even Ryzen handles most 3200 kits today (and it needs it since it relies a lot on ram speed)
- CX is the lower quality Corsair PSU series today, go for something higher quality, like Seasonic or EVGA
- drop the cooler if you go Ryzen, the bundled cooler is already pretty good
- unless you're aiming at 144hz+, don't worry about response times. If it's 60hz, you can't tell the difference between anything below ~16ms

back to Sup Forums

Okay, so I've updated it:

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z270X-UD3 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z270
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Intel Z170 Platform / Intel X99 Platform Desktop Memory
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 2280 250GB SATA III 3-D Vertical
HDD:Toshiba (DT01ACA100) 1TB Internal Hard Drive
PSU: Corsair TX850M 850W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply
Case: NZXT S340
CPU Cooler: LEPA LPWAC240-HF AquaChanger 240 Liquid CPU Cooler 240mm

How is this?

>invest in a gaming PC
you should leave this place

>Wii U tanked so hard Nintendo fucking apologized
>great fun

A lot better, but holy fuck is that PSU overkill. I'd estimate that consuming ~300w, 350w at the absolute most if overclocked. A good 550-600w psu is more than enough and gives you a lot of breathing room, something like an EVGA G3 550w or a Seasonic M12II Evo 620W (I can't stress this enough, I'd very much rather grab a lower wattage but actual quality psu).

How's this:

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z270X-UD3 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z270
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Intel Z170 Platform / Intel X99 Platform Desktop Memory
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 2280 250GB SATA III 3-D Vertical
HDD:Toshiba (DT01ACA100) 1TB Internal Hard Drive
PSU: SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD
Case: NZXT S340
CPU Cooler: LEPA LPWAC240-HF AquaChanger 240 Liquid CPU Cooler 240mm

Really solid now. Even though the psu is an older design (2012-2013), it still is absolutely bombproof for today's standards.

On a side note, I'm not really a fan of the NZXT S340, on how it relies on non-neutral airflow (more intake fans than exhaust, or vice versa) to cool the hard drives, but that's more of a personal nitpick than an actual flaw really.

check the /pcbg/ first off.

And no. You made some big mistakes.

No one recommends the i7 7700K anymore. Change the CPU to an AMD Ryzen 7 1700. Change the motherboard to an AMD B350 or Z370 chipset. A personal favorite of mine is the MSI B350 Tomahawk
As to storage, make the SSD just a 240 GB one, and then grab a Seagate Barracuda 2 or 3TB HDD.
Change the PSU to a fully modular one with all black cables.

For ram, change it to some 3200 mhz Corsair Vengeance ram. Ryzen REALLY loves fast ram.

I've updated it again, this time upgrading the PSU while finding a much cheaper CPU cooler:

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z270X-UD3 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z270
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Intel Z170 Platform / Intel X99 Platform Desktop Memory
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 2280 250GB SATA III 3-D Vertical
HDD:Toshiba (DT01ACA100) 1TB Internal Hard Drive
PSU: SeaSonic SSR-650RM 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD
Case: NZXT S340
CPU Cooler: MasterLiquid Lite 120 All-in-one CPU Liquid Cooler with Dual Chamber Pump by Cooler Master

I just looked around a bit more, but didn't see any cases that really struck me as being A E S T H E T I C or useful beyond this one.

>not building a mid-range or entry level autism box for esports online shooters, the only good thing PC is good for nowadays gaming wise
>following the "invest more in gaming rig" manchild meme

Here. I fixed it

>Change the PSU to a fully modular one with all black cables.

Why? You will always need atx and cpu cables regardless of the build.

It's better looking. The NZXT S340 has a windowed side panel.

Like I said at the beginning, drop to the 1600 if you don't need the 4 extra threads. If you don't multitask a whole lot, that's around 100€ you save for something else.

And a psu cover. Plus:
- once everything is connected, the cables will still be there on both psu's
- on the standard orientation (fan facing down) the g550 cables will sit right next to the back of the case/routing goles. If anything, that makes it cleaner

Alright, one last update:

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z270X-UD3 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z270
RAM: G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600)
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 2280 250GB SATA III 3-D Vertical
HDD:Toshiba (DT01ACA100) 1TB Internal Hard Drive
PSU: SeaSonic SSR-650RM 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD
Case: NZXT S340
CPU Cooler: MasterLiquid Lite 120 All-in-one CPU Liquid Cooler with Dual Chamber Pump by Cooler Master

And I might either switch the i7 for a ryzen OR just wait until the 8700 comes out.

see:
Drop Intel for AMD.
The age of the 4 core is FINALLY done. It's been a long 10 year run.

One final change, to future proof it:
CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K (whenever it comes out)
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
Mobo: MSI X299 SLI Plus LGA 2066 ATX Motherboard
RAM: G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600)
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 2280 250GB SATA III 3-D Vertical
HDD:Toshiba (DT01ACA100) 1TB Internal Hard Drive
PSU: SeaSonic SSR-650RM 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD
Case: NZXT S340
CPU Cooler: MasterLiquid Lite 120 All-in-one CPU Liquid Cooler with Dual Chamber Pump by Cooler Master

Cpu and board. And if the rumors are to be believed. Coffee Lake Will need new boards.

computers

>*Cpu and board aren't compatible

Serves me right for not sleeping enough

Just noticed that myself.
Well, back to this:

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z270X-UD3 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z270
RAM: G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600)
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 2280 250GB SATA III 3-D Vertical
HDD: Toshiba (DT01ACA100) 1TB Internal Hard Drive
PSU: SeaSonic SSR-650RM 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD
Case: NZXT S340
CPU Cooler: MasterLiquid Lite 120 All-in-one CPU Liquid Cooler with Dual Chamber Pump by Cooler Master

Or maybe I'll just go with the AMD Ryzen after all. EVERYONE both here and on Sup Forums are telling me to get it, so I'd be stupid to ignore everyone.

Don’t listen to him OP, Intel is still the best. Four core is still relevant forever and always. AMD is cheaper but less reliable and you get what you pay for, Intel all day
Im gonna assume you’re too poor to actually afford a decent gaming rig so you attempt to justify your meager build by posting on Sup Forums about how there are no games worth building a good rig for?

Nice try brian

Btw the Fractal Design Define C is very similar to the S340, and is currently a fan favorite for being more versatile. They even released a tempered glass version this week, if you care about that.

My problem with the Define C is that brushed plastic front panel that makes it look uber cheap. Had they glued a piece of brushed stainless steel there, it'd have looked way better

there is literally no reason what so ever to go to intel
you cant future proof it at all cause intel is changing sockets each year..

lisa said that am4 socket will be the main one till the ddr5 becomes mainstream so you have at least 5 years of upgrades to do.. and at least up to zen2

Hey buddy, I think you got the wrong board. Sup Forums's 12 links down.

Still sucks

Not too hard to mod. Of course that requires modding.
