Does anybody use a keyboard cover on their thinkpad?

whats the cheapest thinkpad with a 1080p screen?
I just want a computer to keep down by my severs to manage them

what kind of stickers should I use to enhance the AESTHETICS of this?

none, stickers are for degenerates

anyone got an idea on this?

Go to bed, Mike

>lenovo is aesthetic
lol

In his case Leno\o

Is anything not semen colored like a mac unacceptable to you?

Sup Forumsuys im getting a x220 tomorrow. What should i do with it?

install arch + i3wm

what so good about arch?

You like getting blacked?

Wrong connotation.

nothing unless you are a neet.

Who's using their thinkpad as pic related?

T420 or T430? I plan to add a 1TB SSD, upgrade the screen, go back to original keyboard if T430, and ideally upgrade the processor

Is it a good idea to buy an used thinkpad and buy extra ram and a ssd on my own?
Or should i get one that already have 8gb and a ssd?

What kind of HDD should I get for my t420?
Does 7200rpm vs 5400rpm matter?
Will I be able to emulate games off of a HDD at 5400rpm?
Play video files?

7200 is far better. If you just want storage w/e, lower rpm is functionally the same.

ssd
dont bother with a hard drive in a laptop in 2017

What OS do you guys use?

Former.
Ssd>7200>5400
Yes and yes.

Aren't 7200 HDD are more prone to fail when moving the laptop?

Drain holes are a meme

Spilled water on my thinkpad today and it ended up pooling up inside the ram slots.

It worked after drying off though. But I wouldn't fall for the water drain hole meme and continue using it next time.

Any idea where i can find an x220t or x230t down under in Aus. They seem to be very rare here and command a high price.

Are they blocked by your cum or some other thing?

was your computer a xx30 series and newer. Because when they updated the keyboard they made the drainage channels in the keyboard itself much worse

Which is more robust, x220 or t420?

If you're going to upgrade the screen, you'll be better off with the t520 over the t420, as except for a rare kit, it does not upgrade to 1080p, but you can find the panel for the 15 inch of that generation.

fresh software and AUR I guess

Well you guys got me with the thinkpad meme. Good one. Bought a refurbished x230 and it's defective and I've wasted the last three days trying to troubleshoot. Into the trash it goes.

I bought a t420 and I haven't had any problems with it in the 2 years I've owned it, but why don't you try to talk to the seller to get a refund?
Ebay's generally pretty good with this kind of thing.

No thinkpad without an IBM logo is aesthetic.

It's a shill, they do this every thread. They're mad that we don't want their stinky chicklet keyboards.

You retards were right about the classic keyboard, shit's comfy af.

lheenucks

Hard drives are designed to survive motion while in operation.

It's when you drop the thing that they can fail, but there's a sensor in your Thinkpad which will lock the drive if it detects sudden acceleration like that.

No, you don't have to worry. I have Thinkpads from the '90s with their original drives still going strong.

>sensor in your Thinkpad which will lock the drive if it detects sudden acceleration like that.
Is that hardware enabled, or you need a specific package?
What about the sudden impact from hitting the table where you put the thinkpad?

I just bought a Lenovo ideapad 310 with 8GB Ram, Intel i5-7200 2.50GHz 64 bit 128SSD. How hard did I fuck up? I'm Australian and bad with computers. I need this for school.

Holy shit it's internet speed is so fucking slow and the it's built like a cheap Chinese toy I hope I can get my fucking money back. I knew non-Thinkpads weren't top shit but this is ass. I should have gotten that fucking HP.

How bad is it to continuously adjust the screen when using T420?
Will this wear out the hinges?

It's not bad at all. You have to do it from time to time but the hinges won't wear too fast. Just get a set of spare hinges to calm your mind. They're easily replacable.

Please redpill me on the 7 row keyboard on T430 meme
>do I plug it in and it just werks or do I have to fiddle with bios?
>do all the extra keys work?
>do I need a XX20 palm rest?

>arch
>free software
That's parabola m8e.

Thoughts on the t61?

good laptop but T60>T61

>thinkpad x60
>new 8-cell battery from ebay, reputable seller
>very minimal linux install, no X11
>minimum brightness
>powertop --auto-tune at boot
>3.5 hours battery life
>gets warm even just sitting there idle
x60 is the perfect physical design to me... i just hate that i can't even spend a full day away from a charger. and it gets warm in a text editor. i haven't replaced the thermal paste on the cpu yet, but i doubt it will make much difference.

I was going to upgrade this with an IPS monitor, but now I'm not so sure. Anything else I can do to improve the battery life and temps?

>What about the sudden impact from hitting the table where you put the thinkpad?
Shouldn't be a problem unless you throw it on the table.

when have normies been awared?

Two years ago for me. Just took me a while to buy a memepad

Perhaps a laptop cooling pad with fans?

>sudden impact from hitting the table
*slams desk*

What laptop to get for gamedev? Business laptops only have integrated graphics, workstations have overpriced quadros, and gayming laptops are made of flimsy plastic and are unrepairable.

Razer Blade

Do you want to do you gamedev stuff on the go? Because if not, you could just use an external GPU and get anything with a CPU good enough.

There are cheap GPU adapters that you can hook over ports like ExpressCard.

Get a desktop user...

I found my endgame

what model is that? x230?

yup

Anime ones. Preferably with frilly dresses

Do you use it while on the floor?

youtu.be/SRoJGmnay0E

yeah I just kinda lie on my stomach all day. I started doing that maybe 10 years ago when I was 12 and I still do it.

How do you do that?
I get neck pain when I try to do that, and it's uncomfortable to type.
Are you one of those girls that do blowjobs?

I don't know, it's just the way I alwys use my computer. I have never given anyone a blowjob.

I think I'm gonna get an X60 and libreboot the shit out of it just for fun. I'm not a freecuck, I just enjoy Linux, fast boot and customization.

How can I add USB 3.0 to my T420? I was told there are adapters or something? What are the called? I don't know what to even look for. Apparently there are different expressport sizes

Just look for ExpressCard 34 adapters. I can find lots of these on eBay.

there are expresscardUSB 3.0 ports but these have a few problems

the main problem that you're gonna encounter is that they don't provide power so good luck connecting an external 2.5" HDD. if you don't carry a psu at all times you won't be able to connect a hard drive.

anyone got an extra 4gb ram stick for my X220

someone in discord said they would mail me one, but never got back to me its been months

>it's been months
but why? just buy one if you're so desperate

Thanks! I'll look
I have a 128GB USB 3.0 stick that'll do 110MB/s sustained. Being capped at 41MB/s on USB 2.0 is suffering. Will a plain old USB stick, non 2.5" drove pose an issue?

Im poor and just paid for classes for the fall

thoughts on the t440p? is it worth to get one and the upgrade to a 1080p panel and a touchpad with buttons?

Are you too stupid for student aid?

>too poor to spend $20-25 on a 4GB stick of RAM

Skip lunch for a week.

where can i find it this cheap same stick of ram that comes with the X220

Budget: Under 500 USD
Location: USA
Size: Would like it to be at least over 13 in.
Performance: Enough to rival an MBP which was my other choice lol
Other requirements: Nothing rly

finally ordered my T470s, fuck buying any more x220 palmrests

RAM is standard, you can just use any stick as long as it's DDR3 SO-DIMM

New T470 and X270 versions are most likely going to be released with AMD Raven Ridge.
They're called A475 and A275.
The XX5 Thinkpads were always the AMD versions.

>where can i find it this cheap same stick of ram that comes with the X220

eBay or Amazon. Just look up the type of RAM it accepts, and do a search.

thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:X220
>Up to 8GB PC3-10600 DDR3 memory at 1333MHz
>16GB (2x8GB) PC3-14900 at 1866MHz possible

Just make sure to buy a 4GB stick instead of a 2x2GB set. PC3-10600 DDR3 RAM is going for under $20 on eBay and even on Amazon it's going for $20-30 for known brands.

Who else /X-seriestablet/ here?

Is that a T430?

>T430
>non-shit keyboard

Wut?

why is the thinkpad setup so comfy for you /tpg/? also will having a dual boot of windows and a linux distro be good or can windows spy on my linux shit?

The T420 keyboard is more or less compatible with the T430, with only minor, easily resolved issues (key mapping and making it fit properly in the palmrest).

thinkwiki.org/wiki/Install_Classic_Keyboard_on_xx30_Series_ThinkPads

Is gtx 940 MX sufficient for your needs? T470p have em.
You should also look for t460p/t450p. All of em have dedicated graphic cards

What's the largest HDD possible, in terms of memory, that I can get for my Thinkpad T420™?

Maybe he's looking to run it in dual channel config?

5tb hdd + 5tb hdd + 1tb msata ssd

Do I need to look for a specific type of HDD though? It seems that it can only handle 7mm ones, and I couldn't find any on eBay, etc.

+ 1TB ExpressCard/32 SSD + 265 GB MicroSD card

I need a battery for my x60 that's fucking flat and doesn't have these faggy protrusions that keep it from sitting level with the table. The one I ordered (and subsequently returned) used a totally different picture and gave me this instead.

Pic releated

is there an after market 360 hinge for the x220 tablet

Which thinkpad can smoothly run engineering software? I need one that isn't too pricy that'll get me through years of college.

>buy used T420
>clean it out, replace thermal paste
>turn back on
>idling at 60-70 C with the fan blasting and nothing open but RealTemp
>open Chrome
>temperature spikes to 85 C, gets up to 93 C before I exit out

Is there anything else I can do that would make a difference? This is quite frustrating.

thinkwiki.org/wiki/Install_Classic_Keyboard_on_xx30_Series_ThinkPads#Pinout
Is this step really necessary?
Does anyone have any experience with this?

>replace thermal paste
post pics
you probably added too much or did something retarded like spreading it

also clean the fan as well

how was it running before you tried cleaning it?
