Systemd thread

Name a better alternative.

I said better.

Windows 10

Void

Windows 10

>I said better

sysv

It actually brings up all of my hardware, doesn't break after an update and shuts my PC down in under 1m30.

Three things NSA/systemd cannot.

Void linux / runit :)

>under 1m30
>being surprised that shit actually works

Really, user? Really?

openrc

>1m30
Eh what the fuck. Windows shuts down faster.

>>being surprised that shit actually works

Well, actually I was surprised shit didn't work when upgrading Debian to Jessie.

Luckily Debian is Debian so a quick reinstall of sysv fixed all.

sysv shuts down in a few secs. that 1m30 is a lame ass timeout that comes up when shutting down with systend.

Anything is better which can shutdown my pc faster than 1m 30s

anything

ITT we post rare Lennarts

Unfortunately, this is the only one I have. Could some kind anons share their Lennart pics with me? Please :3

...aaaand as soon as is clear that not even one (1) positive remark can be made about systemd the thread is abandoned...

systemdrones not even trying anymore.

init

your own choice of bootloader, logger, managers etc.

thanks for screwing that up in nearly every distro you hack.

>openrc

>not even one (1) positive remark can be made about systemd
Well, Lennart is a qt

Runit

WHY YOU WANT SYSTEMD FOR INIT? IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH AS PROCURED FROM AMERICAN TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH COMPANY?
YOU THINK NEEDS IMPROVEMENT? THEN MAYBE YOU FIND JOB WITH GOOGLE!
YOU HAVE DRINKS WITH ROB PIKE, TRADE STORY OF MANY OPERATING SYSTEMS DESIGNED AND DETAILS OF UNIX PHILOSOPHY!
OR MAYBE YOU NOT DO THIS. PROBABLY IS BECAUSE YOU NEVER DESIGN INIT SYSTEM IN WHOLE LIFE.
YOU LOOK AT FINE SYSV INIT, THINK IT NEED CRAZY SHIT FEATURE ON ALL LIBRARIES OF PROGRAM.
YOU HAVE DISEASE OF NOT INVENTED HERE, CHANGE THING THAT IS FINE FOR NO REASON EXCEPT TO HAVE STAR ON CAPITALIST SITE OF WEB GITHUB.
YOU PUT BINARY JOURNALD OF REDHAT SLAVE FACTORY ON ONE SIDE, YOU PUT BAD LOGIND OF TMUX KILLING ON OTHER SIDE,
YOU PUT SNARKY MAINTAINER ON BOTTOM SO YOU THINK YOU ARE LIKE GLIBC ASSHOLE ULRICH DREPPER.
MAYBE YOU PUT TELEDILDONICS ON TOP TO FUCK YOURSELF IN ASSHOLE FOR MAKING SHAMEFUL TRAVESTY OF FREE SOFTWARE TRADITION, NO?
INIT IS FINE. YOU FUCK IT, BINARY ONLY GET HEAVIER AND YOU STILL NO HIT ONE PERCENT SHARE OF MARKET.
GO TO GENTOO, PRACTICE WITH MANY COMPILATION OF EBUILD. THEN YOU NOT NEED DUMB SHIT PUT ON SIDE OF INIT.

Derp.py

Because we intented and you don't want to listen anyways.
Stick with your fucking old sysvinit and stop crying.
>inb4 muh openrc
No.
>muh runit
No.

This is gold

muh openrc actually works :^)

Docker

I heard that this is the default on Gentoo and I have some questions:
-Why aren't more distros using it?
-Is there a way I can use it on Ubuntu?
-Can I run muh gaems with it?

how can docker be an alternativ ?

Can someone explain me what is this all about.
I just use standard ubuntu/debian for years, and I know they switched to systemd.
The only time I had to deal with systemd, was to change some Docker flag.
Why systemd is good/shit ?
Why alternative are better/worst?
Do I have to care about this ?

Systemd works too :^)

The debian vote was something like 49/51% in favor of lennartd. We were this close to everything debian-derived switching to it.

tl:dr; systemd gives all linux distros a definable start point, which is a viable attack vector due to system similarity, where before it was impossible beyond hacking the kernel (which is hard to do.)

also encrypted logs and other undesirable things.

I have seen stilted arguments against systemd in the past, but this is the winner.

>encrypted logs ?
So we can't read the logs ? Or we have the key?
>which is a viable attack vector due to system similarity
That's the same as always, better to dising something new whith maybe security mistake, but unknown since is new, are use a well know service which is know to be safe until ...

Can you explain better plz

>which is hard to do
Lmao Linuxtoddlers everyone

The logs are encrypted in the sense they're binary. That´s has cons and pros. But yes, you can read them and redirected them as plain text.

why has this cons ?

russia stronk

If journalctl shits himself it can corrupt the logs or simply refuse to display them.
But this is also a way to tell if the logs have been tampered. Also, these new binary logs have lots of metadata, so tracking and reading them is more easy.

That would be runit, fucktard

cron

runit

i said runit.

Hello, system dicks.

Even fucking SysV init is better.
Mainly beause SysV init was only a bad init.
Systemd is a bad init, dns, cron, bootloader, dhcp client, ntp daemon, sudo, etc.

what i don't understand about systemd is why different implementations can take up to 60 minutes to boot

opensuse takes like at least 1 minute while arch/parabola is 5 seconds

Windows

Not any dumber than the other suggestions.

OpenRC

bsdinit is decent.
sysv? no thanks.

Who waits 60 minutes for boot?

Is there even a more punchable face within the Linux developer community than his?

Anal Herpes.
