Mac OS General

Okay Macfags get in here.

Post your favourite terminal commands and your favourite applications you use on your Mac

sudo rm -rf /

/lgbt/ is over there ----->
/fa/ is over there ------->

Node/grunt and basic file manipulations are all I used the terminal for with Mac. The gui is pretty nice desu.

Now I see why that touchpad has to be that big.

the touch pad of OP's laptop is different than the one in the gif. OP's one doesn't have a lighting up Apple logo on the back, it's just glossy black. the older macbook pro laptops have about half the size of a touchpad than OP's.

brew

git

macOS™ is so based

my favourite terminal commands are GNU sed and awk
my favourite application is IINA. I use mpv on linux too, but IINA is a really nice frontend.

If you guys love the terminal so much why not just move to GNU/Linux or FreeBSD so you can enjoy your free (as in freedom) software on all hardware from all price ranges?

Is there any point in purchasing a post-2015 MBP? It seems to me they completely fucked up the pro series for no reason

because with my hackintosh, i get the best of both worlds; native unix shell utilities + pic related

and macOS is the most polished OS i've ever used, and it isn't close

python3

None of the software in pic related is free and open source. I don't think anyone running a GNU/Linux system will regret not using that software.

They have nothing to regret since they don't have a job

>he has brand loyalty

unironically this desu. it even got updated in high sierra :)

Are any macfags here actually exclusively macfags? I run windows 10 pro on my desktop and my work computer runs windows. I just like macOS for laptops.

I'm almost there. I have a piece of shit HP laptop as a backup machine that has Win7 on it, but that's the only thing that's out of the Apple ecosystem.

It's impossible to be exclusively MacOS for me. My previous main laptop was a Surface Pro 3 and I used that for about 2 years.

Summer isn't over yet?

Windows for gaming desktop at home
Mac for my work and home laptops
Fedora/xfce for my netbook

Feels comfy

I'm still a manchild so I have to have windows for muh games
What made you switch from Surface? They seem okay.

I never owned an Apple product until 2014 when my ThinkPad died out of warranty. Now it's hard to imagine buying a Windows laptop.

mps-youtube is a godsend for listening to music

tfw having a job

If you want to unlock your processor for games

>sudo rmdir -R /system

What is this, NIX babby general?

vim, Chrome and iTerm2

MACTODDLERS BTFO

Moving away from the software, does anyone know which SSDs are as fast as those in a MacBook Pro 2015+?

I have a windows pc for gaming and certain dev stuff. Usually I also have linux running in a vm or on a server somewhere.

This.

you dont regret it because you dont do anything other than fuck around and waste time

OS X is a mess and it uses too many closed source applications and libraries. The UI is backwards and shitty. There are also no good applications for it. I wanted to get WPS office on my Mac and guess what? It's Linux and Windows only so I installed OpenSUSE on my MacBook. It's faster and gets better battery life. Fuck off with that garbage.

You're all retarded. I can just run that stuff in WINE and it works 99% as well as it would on Windows systems.

Buy a normal SATA 3 SSD if you're using your machine at home. You won't notice the difference on faster drives except for the rare occasions that you transfer or access large files.

>I use LINOCKS on a high dpi screen with no issues
lying is a sin

I use OpenSUSE on my desktop with a 24 inch 4k display. Are you retarded?

Samsung Evo and Pro 950s and 960s are basically the same as the 2015 and 2016 MBP, maybe even a little faster.

I have a 2015 MBP and the SSD speed thing is kinda a meme. My desktop has a 1TB SATA3 SSD and there's basically no noticeable difference outside of synthetic benchmarks.

>favourite applications
the built in disk utility program is top notch

I usually use GNU/Linux, but can't use BSDs because the broadcom-wl (proprietary) driver for the wifi chip isn't compatible. I'd try BSDs otherwise.

Do you even know who the CEO of apple is?

Who here pre-2013 macbook master race? Feels comfy.

and getting battery indicator, power management and brightness working just seems like too much tinkering

>i didnt read any decent guides before i installed
theres your problem

well i read them now and theres still nothing to tell me if hardware accel is working. i saw something about ioreg but i have no idea how to read it

also shit like lilu.kext and IntelGraphicsFixup.kext why would i need those pieces of shit it just werks?
