August 21st I think? If you wanted to get one, nows the time. I bought one, it arrives Wednesday. I already recieved my extra sensor, tucked the extension cable underneath my rug, so it's hidden quite well. I ordered from best buy, so I got the 6 games + Eve Valkyrie with it.
To those who ordered from the sale - does it still come with the Xbone or 360 controller?
Cooper Wilson
According to journalists, around the 21st this month. But there's no official word (yet). I'm thinking they're planning to announce the specific end date a week before.
This looks fun as fuck. I'm curious how difficult it was to port the source code into VR - it looks like everything works really well.

stop believing what you read on Sup Forums

It certainly takes time and effort to implement everything and then test and iterate on the quality of support. We're lucky that people who go this far exist.
Henry Morris
there is no need for this to be a ''general'' thread

Mine's still at "Order Processed: Ready for UPS", so I have no clue when mine is arriving. Ordered it on the 3rd.
David Russell
Your order should be shipped pretty soon but they're probably still getting the backordered people out the gate first. Might be another day or two I think until yours starts shipping.

Just ordered mine. Pretty hype. I justified it too myself as a hardware upgrade not just an expensive game
Brody Brooks
How long is the sale going for? I get paid this week and I was going to pick one up
Colton Gonzalez
spooky

Oh shit nigger, your password is probably leaked on a public list somewhere, that's what they tested.
Order just shipped out from Kentucky. Should be here on the 9th.

>pay $400 to play 20 minute experiences
pretty much

My friends tell me to avoid $399 rift deal at all costs, and to save up for Vive instead; they say Rift is dying due to losing their legal struggles.
What does Sup Forums think? Save for Vive? $399 seems great but is it a dead item?
Gavin Price
Which is objectively better, the Occulus or the HTC Vive?
James Sanders
We're you able to activate eve
Sebastian Richardson
See Also no one should care about HTC anymore. Wait for an announcement from LG.
Joshua Morales
LG vr? huh
Matthew Watson
I see they presented at a conference, but I see no recent news of impending launch. What if it launches at Vive pricing? Am I missing out if I don't buy the Rift for $399?
Nolan Lewis
Yes LG is making a headset. Rumors are that it'll release sometime this year or early next year because it lines up with Valve's hardware developments (Lighthouse 2.0 and Knuckles), and we know LG is partnering and licensing from Valve. There is no official word about when it will be released as of yet. It will probably be around the same price as the Vive is right now though it may possibly be cheaper.
>Am I missing out if I don't buy the Rift for $399?
Maybe. Ultimately it'll be for you to decide whether or not it's better to wait or it's better to get something now you can play around with that should last you till Oculus' and HTC's gen 2 in 2019, while the sale is still on.
Tyler Stewart
I mean isn't the Rift "good enough" to just keep playing new games, to or is there some "new wave" of VR headsets that will make it defunct?
Anthony Ramirez
The Rift (and the Vive) should be able to play any game/app made for PC VR hardware in the next few years and possibly more. Games made after 2019 may come to depend on big new features found only in newer headsets, but many will not, so you should be good. LG's VR headset will likely not be so fundamentally different that it will require special software design that would make that software inherently incompatible with other hardware.
However expect that gen 2 in 2019 will be vastly superior to today's headsets.

What is the easiest/cheapest way to view some environments I've made in Blender in VR?
I know Google cardboard exists - I could buy one, but then what? I start mysterious-obj-model-viewer-for-android.apk? Is there something basic that lets me load my model files and walk around?
Brandon Watson
I'd argue Cardboard isn't worthwhile and no phone VR is, but if you really need to, I might suggest you get Cardboard, get a standard game engine like Unity or Unreal, and get Trinus to stream for your desktop to your phone.
Ethan Gomez
Vive is better.
t. Someone who's used both
Brody Hernandez
Shit I hope they prolong it abit, I gambled most of my wages and won't get paid till the start of September.
Ryan Smith
Forgot to add would it be worth getting the PSVR instead? Assuming the sale price goes too far up for the rift. $400 is pretty much my limit for a device I haven't tried yet (no stores near me that have one to test)
James Bailey
Both have pros and cons that make them slightly better for different scenarios, except one is half the price of the other now.
t. owner of both who uses them almost every day
Juan Peterson
Vive is out of my price range. Oculus is better than nothing. So I buy the Oculus.
The Alien game is on sale too. Supports VR through a mod.
Brody Lee
The new gen stuff is at least 1.5 to 2 years away minimum. $400 isn't a whole lot of money in that regard over time. I say buy it, enjoy it, upgrade it when you want/need to. It's what i'm doing. A little bit of dosh stored away at the end of the month adds up to be what you'll need for the new sets.
And besides, theres plenty of VR games now worht playing, and you get 6 free ones with the Rift currently. Order from Best Buy and you get Eve: Valkyrie for free.
Asher Ward
Vive is better, only because of the lighthouse and front camera, but certainly not double the cost better. It's only a smidge better in that regard. I bought the rift, and I will buy the vive when the cost is slashed and the knucks are released. Only Farpoint looks like it's the only worthwhile PSVR game right now, because of the gun attachment too, but I think it's overpriced as fuck, and you won't get enough games for it.
Dylan Richardson
Yo Firefox just updated to support VR.
