Hong Kong vs Tokyo

Battle of Skylines Round 1 Battle 2
Bracket
Tbf, Dubai should have been closer to Moscow. We have a pretty heavy anti-Muslim bias (for good reason most of the time) on Sup Forums.
Also, HK beats Tokyo because Tokyo is simply too spread out.
I'd still live in Tokyo though.
Hong Kong
>Tbf, Dubai should have been closer to Moscow.
Dubai should absolutely rape Moscow these 2 skylines are two complete leagues, it's like I dont know comparing Houston to New York City
>these 2 skylines are two complete leagues
*are 2 different leagues
But well it's a poll, surprises can happen also
>We have a pretty heavy anti-Muslim bias
more like anti-Dubai bias in this case, I'm pretty sure if Dubai was put against even shittier skyline like Warsaw it'd somehow still lose
>Also, HK beats Tokyo because Tokyo is simply too spread out.
not really Tokyo could be as tightly packed and still wouldn't match HK
too low, not many enough, also not really quality skyscrapers
...
Tokyo
fuck, not Tokyo, still HK
now Tokyo
...
The hills make up the skyline
t. Butthurt P*le
Although I do like you most of the time. We talk about China and Korea a good amount.
...
...
HK is a bloody perfect skyline.
...
Tokyo got stuck in 1989.
Why are you the worst fucking tripfagon Sup Forums?
And that is a great skyscraper
>not really Tokyo could be as tightly packed and still wouldn't match HK
I wouldn't be so sure, as Tokyo is pretty damn big all in all. Especially adding Yokohama and the other Greater Tokyo Area cities into the equation.
Granted it would still be lacking in supertalls, but hey.
Fuck off Arabier
Tokyo is large but it still has like 2x less skyscrapers in total.
That depends on whether you trust Emporis or Skyscraperpage more, though neither really have very accurate or up to date numbers. I still think Hong Kong has more high-rises overall, but stacking up everything in the GT Area would likely come up with a nice number regardless.
>I still think Hong Kong has more high-rises overall
well ite certainly has more skyscrapers
It'll be hard to make the poll reach 50 votes I guess..
...
...
...
Hong Kong hands down
>6 votes
Yokohama not really Tokyo proper
...
I think HK is objectively "better", and at nighttime its near-perfect but I feel like these shots really bring it down for me, it doesn't look right at all. Tokyo is much more organic and pleasing to the eye for sprawling shots during the day..
Neither is Makati Manilla proper or La Defense is Paris proper. Still they are generally regarded as the skylines of their metropolies.
Hong Kong skyline and architecture is better but Tokyo's actual urban engineering is the best in the planet.
>but I feel like these shots really bring it down for me, it doesn't look right at all.
What's wrong about them?
Tokyo
Elaborate on that I'm just curious.
More Tokyo
Even more Tokyo
Admittedly I'm not that knowledgeable about HK but Tokyo is fucking impressive. The city proper is massive and the logistics are top tier. The fact that you can live in Chiba and go anywhere in Tokyo reasonably within the same day is great. Also the bridge on tokyo bay. My Dad, civil engineer said it was one of the most impressive things he had seen.
I'll just keep dumping

It's literally the same building pasted 50 times. They're commieblocks but taller
...
...
...
Well the buildings aren't very good looking and it looks they are copy pasted. As the finn said they look like commie blocks. Its a bit like how Shanghai has a "good skyline" but looks like shit from most angles.
I prefer the more dense and uniform NYC style which is just cool generally, or the Tokyo low natural looking spread with big clusters for actual cities.
I'm not denying that HK doesn't shape up at night though.
MAKES YOU THINK
...
In how many places has that building with the curvy base been used
...
...
Probably a decent number
it was a very faddish thing for a while. I think dubai has one too
Tokyo is full of brutalist architecture and flat faced square buildings.
Uhhh no
Nice shitpost though
They are though. In that particular picture they're all apartment buildings with no particular architectural ambition. On top of that they're all the same height. Stretch out a commieblock and you get a Hong Kong apartment tower
>Well the buildings aren't very good looking and it looks they are copy pasted
>copy pasted
What the fuck?
>Its a bit like how Shanghai has a "good skyline" but looks like shit from most angles.

What?
That's residential HK. One small part of HK.
And no. They are all different shapes ans sizes, but they look similar because of their balconies. They were built in the 70's to house 3 million people.
Tokyo has hundreds of unironic 15 story copy-paste commie blocks. We just don't post pictures of them.
Throwing in some Yokohama as well.
How does this not look copy pasted to you
Guess that really covers it
But look at the DENSITY
HK has so many more buildings that only a crazy person would vote for tokyo!
>you will never live in a capsule in tokyo
;_;
actually i dont have a lot of tokyo's skyline pics good you are posting
>As the finn said they look like commie blocks.
they don't look like commieblocks they are commieblocks
>I prefer the more dense and uniform NYC style which is just cool generally
I seriously never understood this fascination about NYC and actually all the American cities. I've seen their skylines gorillion times since childhood(movies, tv series, news) so they are completely boring to me.
One is being built in Milano, the architect is libeskind if i'm not mistaken
>I seriously never understood this fascination about NYC and actually all the American cities.
don't worry, NYC has a bunch of supertalls going up for you to get a boner over
Quite a few. Seoul has one as well, which like the Japanese one, was inspired by this one >We just don't post pictures of them.
You are free to do so.
no new supertall in NYC is even decent as for me
>pencilscrapers
hope you are memeing this time
HK is considered a classic skyline among with NYC and Chicago since early 90's.
Meanwhile Tokyo has 3 notable skyscrapers and 2 structures
NYC has tonnes of tall skyscrapers and they look good because they are dense. Hongkong hasn't done this so a wide shot of the city especially in the day reveals the more ugly side of it.
...
The future is glorious.
>no new supertall in NYC is even decent as for me
Yeah, I'm sure
If this shit was in china or dubai you'd go apeshit for it
thicc
That's awesome
And the cladding is amazing
terracotta and bronze
bullshit
I like tacky stuff but not AS tacky, it looks ridiculous
I prefer massive or tapering skyscrapers
and actually a lot of people shit on the new projects in NYC, in /urban/ aswell
Really like it. Care to tell me who's behind the project?
...
SHoP architects
who are also doing this ~1068 footer in brooklyn
Noice, kinda reminds me of Piano's Work.
Rate my city's skyline
wew nice resolution senpai
anyway Milan's skyline is classy, the towers look sleek, modern and interesting but definitely wouldn't rank it as one of the top skylines in Europe
it's nice though and it keeps growing
I love NYC but this looks like ass, why the hell is it so thin?
>HK is considered a classic skyline among with NYC and Chicago since early 90's.
By you? HK's skyscrapers are all fairly new.
maybe the angle?
its aspect ratio isnt the thin
Gotta agree there. Not sure why the NYC burgers are so obsessed with these toothpick skyscrapers. They are too thin to really add anything to the skyline, and just take attention away from the buildings that actually look nice.
Yeah, we are currently waiting for Pelli to reveal the design of the new skyscraper in that area. Also waiting for a couple more to be completed (pic related is the newest one, clad with wood and glass)
>Not sure why the NYC burgers are so obsessed with these toothpick skyscrapers.
they just love them because they are built in theirs city desu
just like a lot Poles will say pic related is a top tier European skyline
>nyc has skyhigh real estate prices
>it means building a 1500ft skinny tower is economically viable
>tons of them start going up in nyc
No other city, except perhaps london, could actually build towers like this and make money.
Also
>not wanting tons of skinny spires piercing the sky
plebs
The commie building is the only good part desu.
Was in Warsaw last week, i honestly did like the skyline
I dont know why people keep saying that dirty commie palace is any good
Because it is a relatively unique style, especially for europe
Because it has that distinctive gothic / deco feel while the rest is just generic glass and steel shit.
disgusting style
no it's generic commie shit
stop shilling for communism fucking russian diaspora
