Are there any weird localised names for movies in your country?

Are there any weird localised names for movies in your country?

For example, Alien is called 'the 8th Passenger' here, and Terminator is called 'deadly mission'

yes

care to elaborate?

Terminator here is Terminator from the Future

The only one I know is that the LotR books are called "in de ban van de ring" which means "under the spell of the ring" for some reason

Die hard it's called "The Crystal Jungle" because die hard doesn't have a proper translation in spanish. It was kinda okayish for the first movie, but they had to keep the name for the sequels.

Against all rules of this world latin americans got it better this time, with an equivalent expression.

feel bad for leslie desu, it's like picking on a disabled kid.

alien is the same as yours and terminator is terminator, die hard is die menly tho

Martin Lawrences "Black Knight" was dubbed into "Locuras en la Edad Media", or "Wackiness in the Middle Ages" I mean COME ON, "Un Caballero Negro" works so much better!

she takes it too seriously
that's why it's happening so much

The 8th passenger is a pretty damn good name desu but deadly mission sucks ass

Just googled her

FUCK she is ugly

FUCKING HELL

Well it's not really 'mission', hard to translate but it's something between Delivery and Mission

Shawshank Redemption is Le ali della libertà (The wings of freedom)
Citizen Kane is Quarto potere (Fourth power)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is Se mi lasci ti cancello (If you leave me I delete you)

The first Die Hard in italian is Trappola di cristallo

Looks like a normal black woman desu.

We made the movies so, no.

You're welcome for the entertainment btw
>lol america sux haha

No

She's much uglier

The hangover here is "if you're drunk, don't marry". I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THE FUCK THEY CHOSEN THAT TITLE.

Shawshank Redemption is 'walls of hope'
citizen kane and the latter are the same

That title is terrible, did the people who named it that even watch the movie?

Really good advice honestly, but it doesn't work with the movie because the one guy that did get married while blasted made a good choice.

not a bad title, it's kind of the plot of the movie
here it's On the way to the wedding we stop at Vegas, now that's retarded

She's literally a racist caricature of a black person come to life

The Huger Games => The Tributes of Panem

>Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

'Philosopher' is too big a word for the average american

>Arry Pottah and the Felosophus Stown

Russian translators love to add additional descriptions to short movie titles.

Skyfall->Coordinates "Skyfall"
Die hard->Hard (or Tough) Nut
Inception->The Beginning
Lost->To Survive
Hitch->Rules of Pickup: Hitch's Method
Tucker and Dale vs Evil ->Killer Holidays
The Hurt Locker -> the Master/Lord of the Storm
Shark Tale ->Underwater Bratva (russian mafia)

It's a thing in France to replace the original english title by another english title instead of keeping the original or a translation for some reason, but usually it's just translated.

Alien is "Alien, the 8th Passenger" here as well, Terminator is Terminator.

Shawhank Redemption : "The Escaped"
First Die Hard "Crystal Trap"

home alone is my poor little angel (mi pobre angelito)
>this time
you sure only this time?

We mock the spaniards
Fast and Furious - Rapido y Furioso
Spain - A todo gas (full throttle)

here it's '(they) Forgot me home'

Rush Hour is "gas do daske"which means "pedal to the metal"

Home alone is Mamma ho perso l'aereo (Mom I missed the plane)

dont forget pic related
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Mac#History

...

inception is "the origin" here, kind of related to "the beginning"

>Inception->The Beginning
same here

Lethal Weapon - Tveir á toppnum - Two On Top
Equilibrium - Öll frávik bönnuð - All Deviation Prohibited
Die Hard - Á tæpasta vaði - On the Edge
Two Towers - Tveggja turna tal - The Talk of the Two Towers (older translation from the books but was also used during advertising for the movie)
The Fast and the Furious - Ökufantar - Roadragers

Most of the movie titles here have nothing to do with translation.
When Terminator first came out in Poland, some bright guy decided that "Electronic Murderer" would be a fitting name. Thankfully, that translation hasn't survived the test of time. Alien is "Alien: The 8th passenger of the Nostromo".
Die hard is "Glass Trap" here and is probably the most popular subject of movie title jokes, especially once the fancy-named sequels started coming out.

What's Dirty Dancing called in your cunts? It's "Swirling Sex" here.

Corrupted Dancing, although you could say 'dirty' works too

We called Dirty Dancing "Í djörfum dansi"

Which means "In a Provocative Dance".

How's this called in your language?

it's the Exorcists here

Draugabanarnir - The Ghost Killers

Here as well

Dirty Dancing

Full Metal Jacket is Born to Kill (Nascido para Matar) here.

But well, it fits.

"Pogromcy duchów" - Conquerors/Vanquishers of Ghosts
Sounds much better in Polish than it does in English.

Mythbusters is "Pogromcy mitów" as well.

The Ghost Hunters.

here's it's just Metal Jacket
sometimes the translation is really fucking lazy

SOS Fantômes (fantômes = ghosts)

here is war face
grease is vaseline btw

It's Que Paso Ayer here...what happened yesterday?

Meh

Here Jaws is Les Dents de la mer, literally "the teeth of the sea".

for a moment I thought it was the teeth of the shit

Jaws is just "Shark" here.
Yeah, they were that lazy.

"Die hard" is calles "Tough nut".
"Happy feet" called "make legs" that is idiom and means get out of here.
"Inception" is called "The beginning".

Hot fuzz is Kinda cool cops.
Paul is Pal. The secret data (but data is modified to cute-smallijg verion)
Ted is The third is superfluous.

lol

I know the Japanese names for the Fast and Furious movies get wonky

What's the name for this, in your country?

my affair with Annie

"The Magic Roundabout" was renamed "Doogal" here because no little kid knows what a roundabout is, true story

lel

>"The Claws of the Night"

...

Ghostbusters – Die Geisterjäger (The Ghost Hunters)

Many movies have an additional German title when localized.

What about Inglourious Basterds? (Yes, that is the proper English title)

How feminism changed America

"Endless Nightmare" here

Bastardos Inglórios, the same thing.

What bugs me the most is that Die Hard here is called Duro de Matar, and that literally means Hard to Kill which is another action movie starred by Steven Seagal.

same thing

Same here

Hangover - The Bachelor Party in Vegas (Maльчишник в Beгace)
Hangover 2 - The Bachelor Party 2: From Vegas to Bangkok (Maльчишник 2: Из Beгaca в Бaнгкoк)
Captain America - The First Avenger (Пepвый Mcтитeль)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - The First Avenger: Another War (Пepвый Mcтитeль: Дpyгaя Boйнa)
Captain America: The Civil War - The First Avenger: Confrontation (Пepвый Mcтитeль: Пpoтивocтoяниe)

Kek. "Tough Nut" is a terrible title.

They kept the original, same for all Tarantino movies except Death Proof ("boulevard of death") and Hateful Height ("the height bastards")

Broken Arrow (a very bad movie) is called A Última Ameaça (The Last Menace) here.

Inception was called A Origem (The Origin)

But what BR localisators do most is to add subtitles to the title.
Ex: Frozen became Frozen - Uma Aventura Congelante (Frozen - A Frosty Adventure). There are worse examples...

Tangled - Rapunzel: Tangled Story (Paпyнцeль: Зaпyтaннaя Иcтopия)
Brave - Brave Heart (Хpaбpoe Cepдцe)
Frozen - Cold Heart (Хoлoднoe Cepдцe)

>The First Avenger: Another War
probably the wrost title i've ever seen

jaws = tiburón (shark)

It's called "Very Bad Trip" here.

The Dark Knight Rises - Dark Knight: Revival of the Legend (Teмный Pыцapь: Boзpoждeниe Лeгeнды)

The White Shark

We call it Tubarão (shark)

Two Strange Lovers in Latin America

>in Latin America
wut

Movies are dubbed in Mexico for the whole of Latin America

oh
I thought it was part of the title

Die Hard - "crystal trap"
Die Hard 2 - "58 minutes to survive"
Die Hard 3 - "a day in hell"

Breaking Bad was translated as "Meth Daddy" in Czechia and Slovakia. Literally "Gingerbread Daddy" since gingerbread is a slang for meth.

Groundhog day= hechizo del tiempo (time spell)
Home Alone= mi pobre angelito (my poor little angel)
>hai
You name sharks the same as the finns, cool

Whoever came up with that Shawshank Redemption localization is a supreme asshole

>Groundhog day
Groundhog day was renamed in every country because no one knows what Groundhog day is, out of North America: I think Quebec is the only place where it's something about groundhogs

it's called 'to get up yesterday morning' here

wasn't renamed here

Groundhog Day = Groundhog Day here

>Die Hard
"A tough nut" in Russia, it's an idiom.

>Breaking Bad
Literally "Into all hards" which means the same.

Yes

Un jour sans fin (a endless day) here

really? weird

Die Hard = Stirb Langsam (Die Slowly)

Bastard Out of Caroline - Horungen - Whore child
Basket Case - Korgväskan - Literally "basket case" which makes absolutely no sense in Swedish
Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back - Stjärnor Utan Hjärnor - Stars Without Brains

All translations of Mel Brooks movies have names that start with "Springtime for.."

The Producers - Springtime for Hitler
Life Stinks - Springtime for the slum
History of the World: Part I - Springtime for world history part 1
Spaceballs - Springtime for space
High Anxiety - Springtime for the loonies
The Twelve Chairs - Springtime for mother in law
Young Frankenstein - Springtime for Frankenstein
Blazing Saddles - Springtime for the sheriff
Dracula: Dead and Loving It - Springtime for Dracula

Goldie Hawn movies have something similar but instead are called "The girl who.."

The Girl from Petrovka - Tjejen från Petrovka (The origin of this meme)
The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox - The girl who shot live rounds
Foul Play - The girl who knew too much
Private Benjamin - The girl who did military service
Best Friends - The girl who didn't want to get married
Swing Shift - The girl who was working shifts
Wildcats - The girl who won the game
Overboard - The girl who fell overboard

They really had to get around America in the title, huh?

Oh and another good one

My Blue Heaven - Hur jag lärde en FBI-agent dansa marengo - How I taught an FBI-agent to dance marengo
