Italy was never overrun by Muslims, that's a win by default.

How is Spanish more useful, lets say from a general European perspective? Spanish is only useful due to its large influence in South/Latin.. America. I only really plan on going to the U.S.A on holiday otherwise i may never visit or interact with any of that region. I have a friend who is in Brazil that i might visit at some point but that isn't even Spanish.

Italy is a far more relevant European country and for me a better destination so isn't Italian actually more useful for most Europeans.

In terms of actual famous tourist destinations though that is the reality so I think Italy is generally the better to visit on that basis.

The port said "spanish is much more useful" which i disagree with. A bit like how Spanish is probably supposed to be more useful than French and Mandarin is probably supposed to be more useful than German however French and German are easily the two most valuable languages to learn for the majority of European residents after English.

I do agree that Spanish is a more globally relevant than Italian. An American can say that Spanish is much more useful than Italian but I don't really think a European could justify this.
