IT worker here.
Smarthphones, wifi support is the only relevant upgrade over a stone age nokia, but considering how cheap freaking 3G internet is it's not even an issue, touch screen is a straight downgrade over buttons though. Literally gave away an iphone that was gifted to me this year to my mom.
Other than that:
News (an event that is considered breaking news and covered everywhere that is happening right now in my own city has 0 impact on me, news is literally low quality tv drama that gets bonus points because of "reality")
