I dunno
I'm just kinda stuck here, would much rather live in Cali, Florida, or the NYC metro desu
Don't bother coming to Florida unless you plan on retiring.
All the retirees from up North are stealing all our jobs.
>retirees
>working
I don't think those people are actually retired user
>retirees
>stealing all our jobs
What's the point of retiring then?
Because they were born there
I feel sorry for people in the corn belt part of the midwest, they don't even have nature there. 100% of the land is corn or wheat farms with no trees.
The northern version of the south.
Why not?
I like it here
No but I live in Montana
Low cost of living
Strong job market
Excellent education system
Family values and all that bullshit, if you're into it
It is boring, but outside of Chicago and Detroit it's safe and secure place to raise a family
only bad thing is our weather. god damn humidity
Very low cost of living, so if you earn good money at your job then it's very easy to save for nice vacations and whatnot.
best women
What jobs are there?
>mfw I unironically want to move to the Midwest
>Just for the pure sake of Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, Barnes Jewish Hospital, or UChic or Northwestern U Hospital
Hmmm I can understand how Chicago has good hospitals but how do Cleveland and St. Louis retain such a first tier hospitals? Mayo I can understand as it is built on a city that relies entirely on Mayo Clinic
Everything, if you know where to look. There are a lot of insurance firms headquartered in the Midwest for some reason. Also call centers, while shitty, are plentiful because locals have a neutral accent.
It sucks here
City I live in is comfy but not much to do here
I want this except Florida, fuck Florida
Lots of manufacturing here in Indiana for car companies. I live within an hour drive of 7 different major factories.
I ranch cattle
construction
insurance and other mundane office things
shipping/warehousing is also a major industry
education is highly valued, sure there's no Harvard but there's colleges everywhere and teachers are respected
heavy industry (cars) have left but there's light industry everywhere, my central illinois hometown makes motherboards for computers, riding lawnmowers, and plastic silverware, indiana still has some auto industry
basically everything
>Cali,
$1200 for a one bedroom rathole in crip territory
>Florida,
ghetto as fuck, zero economy, state exists for dying jews and cuban coke dealers
>NYC metro desu
$2000 for an apartment the size of a closet, pollution, immigrants, shit
people only go there because the names are memes, quality of life is abysmal there
>education
Which one is the best college in the Midwest, UChic? WashU? Northwestern? Those are literally some colleges I heard from the Midwest. Oh mb UMichigan and Notre Dame
>Ooh hi dere, dis is Baahb calling ya regarding a credit caaard yooo have been approved for...
This
Florida is one big ghetto, you have to live in a gated area of you want to feel safe.
A lot easier to understand than a thick Southern accent.
That's why I don't leave the city
Truthfully there is some nice nature, it's just harder to find.
I like living in Florida, what's wrong with it? I grew up in Tallahassee and live in Tampa now. Are you telling me it isn't absolutely beautiful every time you drive across a bay or the intercoastal waterway? Or go to one of the beautiful beaches or springs that are literally everywhere in the state?
Purdue has the #1 agricultural engineering program in the country and is top 10 for a lot of their other programs.
>$1200 for a one bedroom
On a Cali salary, not a Midwestern one.
>ghetto as fuck, zero economy
Nice memes
>$2000 for an apartment
On a New York salary, not a Midwestern one.
>pollution
We're talking about NYC, not Beijing, and we're not living in the 50s anymore.
>immigrants
The Midwest has plenty of those too.
>people only go there because the names are memes
People go there because you can see and do way more than you can in most of the Midwest. I live in a small suburb of a small city in a low population state, you think there's anything to do here that's satisfying?
>Mongolia tier winters
Whhyyyyyy? Its not like anyone is forcing you to live there.
what part of montana are you in by the way? just visited family in helena last week. I didn't want to leave, it's so nice there.
literally no one talks like that
The Miami metro area is very different from the rest of the state.
All I have heard is it's filled with old people, gangs, and wildlife that wants to kill u.
No user, that's a Minnesotan accent. That's the best way to separate the actual humans from the subhumans.
>Miami
>old people
Can confirm
T. Palm Beach county resident
>Purdue
Fuckton of Korean and Chinese students there as I think about it
I wonder if DC area or Boston will be much better.
Why does Sarah Palin have that stupid Midwestern accent?
>Palm Beach
My nigga, what city do you live in?
WPB here.
1. She grew up in a region settled by Minnesotans
2. That is only one variety of Midwestern accent
Its okay. Actually its fucking gay. Missouri is half south and half midwest though. Its odd.
They do talk like that, it's called the Northern Cities Vowel Shift. This type of accent is around the Great lakes, out towards Minnesota and the Dakotas people really do have a stereotypical "Fargo" accent to the outside ear. You Canadian Raise your vowels like crazy.
Boca Raton.
>mfw I unironically see people wearing kippah
Good city overall
You're conflating 2 different accents, though they overlap a bit.
t. Inland North speaker
Missourifag here. Please cut off St Louis and below before you post this again.
Yep, people from that area settled Alaska, so Alaskans have quite a Minnesota accent. My uncle moved up there from Florida 40 years ago and he has a strong Alaskan accent now.
No, but the vowel shift is VERY common, see I visited Southeastern Michigan a few months ago and I thought everyone's Michigan accent was goofy as hell. Words like "bad", "car", "pahp", and "Hammtramck" were most affected.
>Alaska
What do there, other than digging oils or fishing?
Michigan and the Great Lakes have a slightly different accent than Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.
>You're conflating 2 different accents, though they overlap a bit.
How do you mean? I understand that the Minnesota accent and the great lakes vowel shift type accent are different things.
well I can't comment on the rust belt accent you linked, I just figured you were talking about the stereotypical minnesotan accent. movies/shows like fargo overemphasize it for comedic effect. no one actually talks like that around here.
cozy
It appears that I misunderstood your post.
Good on you for recognizing the difference.
If it's anything like our accent down here, it's mostly noticeable in older people but you probably have a stronger accent than you're aware of.
He was involved in starting a trucking business that primarily delivered goods to oil fields.
True, but they are both very unique sounding and I would certainly not consider the average person from either region to have a general american accent.
The cold is comfy desu
...
COMFY
O
M
F
Y
cold is better than swampy heat desu
although who am I kidding, we get swampy heat as well. I need to move a bit more west to escape the humidity
It might not be QUITE as strong as in the movie, but it's pretty damn strong. I can usually tell right away that someone's from the upper midwest when I hear them talk.
The ones from here you've heard, what do they sound like?
Florida here, the heat sucks, but not really because everyone has AC and it's great weather for swimming most of the year.
Winters that last through April with almost no sun seem horrible. I don't really mind the cold itself that much but the lack of sun is what would get me.
Is Minnesota a nice state? I've only ever heard good things about it besides >muh dems.
She's actually originally from Northern Idaho, my family has a cottage near her hometown.
Mostly just raising their vowels. Car = Caaahr, Pop = Paahp.
Also, saying "pop" instead of "soda" is a dead giveaway itself that someone is from the midwest.
>Is Minnesota a nice state?
It's been described as Canada with guns
minnesota seems alright
for finnish america
>tfw michigander with michigan accent
>tfw suddenly self conscious
Don't feel bad, most people have some kind of accent.
Pensacola is ghetto trash
Tallahassee is "south georgia" ghetto trash
Jacksonville is "south georgia" ghetto trash
Orlando is ghetto trash and pedophiles
Tampa is dindus
WPB is ghetto trash, there are all-white ghettos like the part of Detroit Eminem's from
the only parts of the state that aren't crumbling buildings and welfare are Boca Raton (retired Jews) and Sarasota (Amish)
Whole state will soon be underwater anyway thanks to the global warming the state senate banned politicians from discussing :)
I have been told I don't have the Michigan accent, yet I have lived here my whole life and have no idea wtf it's even supposed to sound like.
vocaroo boo
Only part of WPB that is really ghetto is between City Place and Riviera Beach. Same with the south part of the city near Forest Hill but with spics instead of niggers like in the northern part.
The suburbs in Wellington and Royal Palm are pretty good and so is Palm Beach Island.
It's the same thing as the "Chicago accent"
I was gonna say this is like a PLAIN southwest accent until he busted out those nasty a's and o's.
Why would anyone wants to live in America?
>you want to live in hell?
>yes please
Lol the michigan accent can fool you like that
They sound normal until they have to say a drawn out vowel
