Vietnam had the best memes

who cares about muricans, they invaded Vietnam...no one calls them

Spanish Civil War

Civil Wars are always especially tragic imo

no one fucking asked to get drafted and sent over there when they were 18 years old you autist

WINTER WAR WINTER WAR WINTER WAR!!!!!!!

WW1, it's probably one of the worst tragedies in human history, it ended christendom and then caused another world war.

The good guys won though.

It ain't me
It ain't MEEEE

thanx for listening to our music

Yeh its a great song

>Spanish Civil War
for you, my grandpa kills commies and threw them to the river.(Jarama)
they are not spanish , only traitors

killed*

WWI

>not be on the alpine front and kill the austrians with avalanches

good commie is a dead commie

Why we haven't gassed all germans after ww1?

Probably WW1, it was horrible and people just weren't used to such technologies being used.

>Indochina war : fight, lose
>Vietnam war : fight, cry, cry, protest, cry, scream, lose

ww1 by far, Vietnam was low intensity af
58 000 Americans died in the 8 years of Vietnam
60 000 British died in a single day of the Somme offensive
over 2/3rds of the guys in Vietnam were volunteers, besides dodging the draft was easy unless you were black or retarded

WW1

>World War I was the most colossal, murderous, mismanaged butchery that has ever taken place on earth. Any writer who said otherwise lied, So the writers either wrote propaganda, shut up, or fought.

>60 000 British died in a single day of the Somme offensive
source?

WWII
>Colonel Felix Sparks of the 45th Infantry was walking through the residential part of the camp when he saw Walsh chasing a German soldier shouting: 'You sons of b******! You sons of b******'
>Walsh caught the German and started beating him over the head with the barrel of his rfile,. yelling: 'B*******! B*******! B*******!'
>Sparks shouted at him to stop, but Walsh continued hitting and hitting.
>Sparks drew his .45 and cracked Walsh over the head with its butt;. Walsh fell to the floor ground and laid there weeping.
>It took seven men to haul Walsh away and Sparks took command.
>The formal handover of the camp was done by SS officer Lt Heinrich Skodzensky who walked up to the Americans and offered his surrender with a salute and: 'Heil Hitler'.
>An American officer called him a 'schweinhund' and put him in a jeep. He was driven away and moments later a gunshot was heard going off.
>Walenty Lenarczyk, a prisoner at Dachau stated that following the camp's liberation "prisoners swarmed over the wire and grabbed the Americans and lifted them to their shoulders... other prisoners caught the SS men... The first SS man elbowed one or two prisoners out of his way, but the courage of the prisoners mounted, they knocked them down and nobody could see whether they were stomped or what, but they were killed."[16] Elsewhere in the camp SS men, Kapos and informers were beaten to a pulp with fists, sticks and shovels. There was at least one incident where American troops turned away from two prisoners beating a German guard to death with a shovel, and Lieutenant Bill Walsh witnessed one such beating.[24] Another soldier witnessed an inmate stomping on an SS Trooper's face until "there wasn't much left."

Winter War was pretty feelsy :D

WWI had the most feels

Autists want to go back and fight in WWII so I don't think that counts

Vietnam had the best memes by far though

Soviet-Taliban war is underrated as fuck desu.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_day_on_the_Somme

>you will never have a meme off with vc

history.com/this-day-in-history/battle-of-the-somme-begins

alright I messed that up, the 60 000 is dead, wounded and missing altogether
still, 20 000 dead in one day is quiet a lot, innit?

20k m8

>ywn waste a gook sniper in Hue City and then march out of the city singing the Mickey Mouse Parade song

Pity the y*nks didn't learn from the reds mistake 2bh

ye i see, wasn't the one that claimed 60k

def still pretty huge

youtube.com/watch?v=RodrZ2we_hQ

Well, it was easier to the soviets than US desu.

Watch Restrepo. Pretty nice documentary.

WW1 is approximately an average of 1000 deaths/day just for the French army.
1 400 000 deads for the whole war, not counting those who disappeared (around 300k).

It's estimated that even today 670 000 corpses of unknown soldiers are still scattered on the different battlefields.

probably iWWI then Indochina

His calves look small.

it's a pretty good documentary to explain why the anti-taliban war was a complete fail

>implying
operation enduring freedom was successful until mr. Hussein Obongo fucked it up with his hippie ROE faggotry and then killed it with a withdraw
same goes for Iraq

This war was similar to ISIS with foreign volunteers from different countries. Like Osama

Especially tragic since the good guys lost.

Fuck Spain btw, bietan jarrai

>"Any soldier who goes into battle against the Taliban in pink boxers and flip-flops has a special kind of courage," Gates said, adding that Boyd may have hit on a new kind of psychological warfare. "I can only wonder about the impact on the Taliban. Just imagine seeing that — a guy in pink boxers and flip-flops has you in his crosshairs."
>At least initially, the soldiers were worried the photo would make them look bad, Guttenfelder said. But Firebase Restrepo, on a steep mountainside where soldiers are on constant lookout for Taliban fighters, isn’t a place for formality: Uniforms have holes in them, and some men wear flea collars because of bugs in their beds, he said.

>communists
>anarchists
>good guys

Would you the italian front? Quiet for two months and then all in for a week, short but intense.

Casualities per day with a couple of comparisons:
Eighth Battle of the Isonzo 16.667
Battle of Vittorio Veneto 15.678
Battle of the Piave River 15.055
Ninth Battle of the Isonzo 14.400
Third Battle of Monte Grappa 10.200
Eleventh Battle of the Isonzo 9.731
Battle of Asiago 8.889
Sixth Battle of the Isonzo 7.736
Tenth Battle of the Isonzo 7.500
>Battle of the Somme 7.466
Seventh Battle of the Isonzo 6.400
Third Battle of the Isonzo 6.324
Second Battle of the Isonzo 5.200
Battle of Caporetto 4.074

>Battle of Verdun 2.429
First Battle of Monte Grappa 2.357
Battle of Mount Ortigara 2.000
First Battle of the Isonzo 1.660

>Another soldier witnessed an inmate stomping on an SS Trooper's face until "there wasn't much left."
YES

Fuck all fascists. God Bless America.

>implying the anarkiddies were at all relevant

pls, Kekalonia didn't win a single major battle. It was a fucking joke.

Franco's regime brought death and terror to Spain, as well as the reinstitution of the monarchy. For ethnic and linguistic minorities, the threat of death was even greater, as anyone caught speaking languages such as Basque in public would be rounded up and executed.

Franco was not a good man, he was an evil man.

>implying the nationals didn't rise against the legitimate and democratic republican government

...

As a dirt gommunisd, I can agree with the first half of that.

This is true, so does Korengal, its sequel iirc.

>The formal handover of the camp was done by SS officer Lt Heinrich Skodzensky who walked up to the Americans and offered his surrender with a salute and: 'Heil Hitler'.
>>An American officer called him a 'schweinhund' and put him in a jeep. He was driven away and moments later a gunshot was heard going off.

what is schweinhund?

eh, the US wasn't really the main fighting force despite the memes and were really only active for five years of the war.

regardless, actual deaths are usually lower in conflicts were medical technology is improved and mass-charges wasn't practiced like in ww1 and prior.

Communist regimes have consistently killed more of their own people than fascist regimes

I kinda feel sorry for the Korean War lads 2bh, they were so close to pushing the north koreans right back into China and then the gooks decided to help. Now we're stuck with the mess that is the DPRK today. I think they're overlooked in media as well, what are some big Korean War films? All jump right from WWII to Vietnam

Reminder that Obongo has been following the Bush timetable for withdrawal from Iraq

It wasn't successful either, not in the slightest. To say it was successful is baghdad bpb-level dishonesty. al-Qaeda and the Taliban may no longer be the forces they once were but they still operate in the country and, more importantly, other organisations have already sprung up to fill the space they left. It was a fruitless venture, a failure

My Polish farmer great-grandfather, 17 at the time, was drafted to the Imperial German Army with his two brothers and carted away to charge the French at Verdun.

In a bit over a week most of his unit was wiped out, both of his brothers were dead, and great-granddad was wounded with shrapnel embedded all over his left arm. They patched him up a bit then told him he's discharged and should fuck off.

So my great-grandfather and some other Polish injured had to make the journey back to their village on foot, with no provisions or money. A few of them died and my great-grandfather ended up needing to have his left hand amputated.

He died in the 1970s and (going by grandpa's story) his opinion on the World Wars was that they were a huge waste since neither ended with the total extermination of all Germans.

Cant really think of any Korean war movies. M.A.S.H is really great though if you havent watched it already

two of my great-great-grandfathers served there (both on the Austrian side)
one was a field surgeon who apparently had some really bad memories from the time, so he retired as surgeon after the war and became a pharmacist
the other was a grunt who got artillery'd and he had 2 large shrapnels stuck in the back of his head for the rest of his life because the doctors were unable to remove them
I'm not a fan of Franco, either, but he was lesser evil than Stalin-controlled puppet "democracy"

WW1. The empires of old came crashing down in four years of unthinkable carnage. Victory brought more relief than joy, and the peace afterwards would only lead to more war. All of it, all of the bloodshed, the effort, the suffering, all for nothing...

There was a chap who after learning his wife had died ended up encircled by 15,000 Chinese along with a few hundred buddies.

He just waltzed off and killed everything in sight until he was finally killed. Poor fella.

The movie version is good too but very different.

Iraq was fucked when Saddam was deposed, it isn't Obama's fault

Means pig-dog, but it's actually a very serious insult in German.
>learned in TF2

there are some really great Korea-made movies about the Korean war
try "Taegukgi" and "71: Into The Fire", these two are awesome

1. This is a very doubtful claim. The often-claimed "stalin/mao/lenin/etc. killed twelve billion" or whatever claim is incredibly shaky at best, as most of those figures come from this book called "The Black Book of Communism," which has been regarded as wildly innacurate and unreliable by most credible historians.

2. This claim that "Fascists killed less, therefore they're ok" is a terrible mindset when viewing things, as it absolves any group of its crimes so long as it is the "lesser" of two perceived evils. Franco led a fascist uprising against a legitimate democratically elected government in order to consolidate more power for himself and continue to wipe out any minority groups in Spain, be they ethnic, linguistic, political, etc. For all the faults that the Spanish Republic had, at least they never committed genocide. Francoist Spain, however, DID commit genocide, most notably against the Basque people.

I simply cannot begin to see how Franco could possibly be seen as the lesser of two evils unless the viewpoint you are taking is that fascism is actually a good thing.

>true communism has never been tried

...

>this whole post

>as the reinstitution of the monarchy
>bad
fuck off americunt keep your republican cancer shit on the other side of the sea

I didn't even say that, but alright then.

Again, this is what I was talking about when I said that those figures are really off.

Malaysian emergency. Nothing like stomping commies in a jungle

t. truoc dinh rodriguez

Vıetnam "volunteers" were mostly trying to get better posts by volunteering when they see their names will come up in the draft. Volunteers were given better postings than draftees.

Or something.. a Murican can explain better I guess.

>Being a monarcuck

Yeah, coming out a special vagina is truly a reason to be treated respectfully and live in nice palaces

>americans remember the vietnam war through melancholic rock
>vietnamese remember the vietnam war through song and dance routines

youtube.com/watch?v=_29ar9Oljag

really makes you think

Even more underrated is the Chechen wars. Plenty of people had no idea it even happened, despite how recent it was. All of the video footage is from near modern cameras too including smaller cameras held by infantry, it's clear and vivid but all the color is washed out and the distortion paints an extremely grim picture.

I'd say that America never had better music, but Van Halen was just a Pasadena band when Nam ended

yeah that's my point
if you weren't a total idiot you could spend your 12 month holiday just fucking hookers in Saigon or Da Nang

TEST

what are you testing martin

Probably a War no one remembers. ;(

wahey finland got good music taste

deep

American Civil War is pretty sad desu

WW1 is a close second place followed by the American Revolutionary War

WW1 easily.

Revolution was a happy affair. We won m8.

Yeah. but if you were found to be a rebel by the loyalists they would kill you and your family and burn down your house. If you were found to be a loyalists by the rebels they'd kill you and your family and burn down your house. Not a lot of room to be in between either back then.

War isn't pretty, but the result was positive.

Yeah, that's what the thread was about.

If looking at the end outcome, WW1 would definately be more tragic as it sparked WW2.

If looking at during the war, the Civil War and Revolutionary War would be more tragic from an American POV.

Definitely. How people remember wars depends on their results.

>Eighth Battle of the Isonzo
>battled lasted 2 days
>50,000 casualties
>inconclusive
Wow, it's like both sides said "fuck that" after a couple of days

>hendrix
>melancholic

what have you been smoking

in WW1 soldiers were less willing to fight
two armies marching would see each other and start shouting insults at each other, then drop their rifles and start throwing stones at each other
looking at a man's face and shooting him is something only oldest brothers or psycopaths usually did
thats part of the reason america started using man-shaped targets in shooting range, getting the soldiers used to shooting within 1 second without thinking

Something similar happened in the medieval ages. Armies would see each other, one side would notice they were vastly outnumbered/demoralized and just back off.

Dagestan

WW2 has the best songs what with "vorwärts mit unserem rommel" and "кaтюшa"

I'm not the only one getting a boner to this guy right?
