Why U.S.A doesn't make free university like finland?

Why U.S.A doesn't make free university like finland?

because money

because simply not everyone needs to get a college education

those who want it, and work hard for it, AND cannot afford it will get it for free

>those who want it
Is there anyone who wouldn't want to get college education?

You should add trade schools. and community colleges.

>America
>education

>and work hard for it

Because commies are evil

because we are a massive country with a shitload of people compared to fingolia or majority of other countries in yurolo caliphate. and it would cost a shitload of money. It is better to make it cheaper.

It's rare to see constructive comments coming from Americans.

Meaning that that was one btw. *

>because we are a massive country with a shitload of people compared to fingolia or majority of other countries in yurolo caliphate
Germany has 80kk ppl and the universities are virtually free add france and that's 140kk ppl add italy and you're at 200kk ppl

Cool

Universities are free in Brazil

but finn universities are not popular

Why doesn't Canada?

despite our small population, our universities are top tier senpai

in motherland those people who score highest points in graduation test at school study for free at uni, all others pay. different unis require different amount of points

Why not?

We had a perfectly working system of universities and apprenticeships.

You don't need college education if you want to become a carpenter and that's not a bad thing. You go to a carpenter's business, become an apprentice and learn how to become a carpenter while earning money.

Of course, this system has been driven against a wall by our retarded politicians that want everyone to study sociology, but still, it worked.

We're weird about free (or more specifically, Government-sponsored) things, because they remind us of Socialism and we still haven't really gotten over the Cold War.

russia is cheap and it's free for good students
I think it's one of the few good things this country has done

Yes you have more people but also more money.

Because our uni's are shit and utter trash, and you can trust me on this I've been in the best uni here in the most difficult to get in and most prestigious field there is here, and it was shit.

"free"

"free" unis are infested with useless proefessors who keep leeching salary without ever contrubuting anything, because they have no obligations to be productive.

escapism is not the answer

What field?

"Free" college is what caused the student loan crisis because the government decided "Oh well, we'll just outsource all grunt labor to chinks and beaners, so white people will all become MIT professors or something." Since colleges would get subsidized by Uncle Sam, they could charge whatever the hell they feel like since they're no longer competing in a free market system.

Americans don't get that the wealthy and accomplished, that benefited from society, should take care that the next generation will be well-educated (which could then eventually be their employees, more educated employees, increased production). They only care about 1 or 2% less income tax.
Not even affordable college is good.
'I think the world is tired of listening to experts' is a good summary of the United States as well, and the current situation is very much one that wouldn't have occurred if you had invested in the future of the nation.

Does USA have a HECS debt system?

We are actually making it cost for foreigners, cos you know, money.
We ain't the school of the world ffs.
fuck off we're full.

You pay much less than Americans; think 10k instead of 60

Those are just excuses. You are richer than us per capita and could easily afford it. The real reason is that you think poor people don't deserve it.

Why USA dont ban fat foods?

Potato field

>those who want it, and work hard for it, AND cannot afford it will get it for free
Unless you're white or asian.

USA SPENDS MORE PER PERSON ON EDUCATION THAN FINLAND BUT GETS WORSE RESULTS AND HAS NO FREE UNIVERSITY

> looks at university rankings worldwide

>free

You know it's only like 30% student results right?
Universities get assessed on research.

That's the point retard. We have world leading academic infrastructure and that costs money.

Don't be mean we don't have many unis in the top 100 :(

eipä ollu

>what are community colleges
No "free" universities in top the 20. You know why? Because you pay for quality. Your business other pleb degrees mean nothing in real countries.

>american universities have tests with multiple choice questions

Mostly because they can afford not to.

They don't need to educate a majority their people to be successful.

So they can spend the enormous amounts of money they put into education (more than >we do per capita) to get fantastic results for the minority and a few fantastic universities they can go to.

Finland's education policy is to give a mediocre education for everyone so we get as many bodies as we can into the grinder.

Also Finnish "elite" schools suffer from the fact that until recent decades most research was done in Finnish and a lot of publications too.

So nobody gave a flying fuck what Finns did as nobody could be bothered to find out.

>Finland's education policy is to give a mediocre education for everyone so we get as many bodies as we can into the grinder.
Your point overall is not wrong, but I think you're highly underestimating Finnish schools if you consider them only "mediocre".

When I said mediocre I was comparing the top Finnish schools (Aalto and Helsinki U) to the top schools I've been to (Delft and Edinburgh).

What I learned that the Finnish way of studying doesn't cut it there. You need to work hard even to pass courses never mind excelling in them.

Having studied myself in Helsinki University and having friends studying in Edinburgh, I call bullshit. It depends on the program you're on. I personally study microbiology but have friends in many other fields of natural sciences as well. There are more competetive and less competetive degrees in Helsinki, and the same is true more or less everywhere else. Working hard just to pass courses is the typical experience as far as I'm aware.

Meh.

Just my experience as an electrical engineer. Your mileage may vary.

But honestly it's hard to be very objective in these things as everyone has a personal set of experiences and the uni rankings/comparisons focus too much on English language publications instead of quality of education.

True enough, I agree. I think comparing universities becomes even more difficult and convoluted when you take into account that there may be fairly significant differences in quality and competetiveness between different degrees. As I said, I'm familiar with the natural sciences side of things in Helsinki, so I can only speak for my experience. I know next to nothing about the other departments and faculties, so I can't even begin to compare them.

>the uni rankings/comparisons focus too much on English language publications instead of quality of education
This is also a good point, and it's why we nowadays have more emphasis on English language publishing. Still, it's a bit of a problem.

U.S. has a population of 300 something million Finland has 5 something million

Doesn't the US have stuff like this organised by state though? Most states aren't that big.

Not that I'm saying they necessarily should have free higher education, but I don't really buy this argument.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THEY DON\T GET FANTASTIC RESULTS WHICH IS WHY THEY NEED TO IMPORT MILLIONS OF PAJEETS AND JONIS AND CHANGS TO DO THE JOBS THAT AMERICANS AREN\T QUALIFIED TO DO.

IF THEY EDUCATED THEIR PEOPLE PROPERLY, THEY WOULDN'T NEED TO IMPORT MILLIONS EVERY YEAR.

...

FUCK OFF COMMIE WITH UR FREE HEALTHCARE AND EDUCATION N SHIET

btw we dont have free uni either

evil capitalist pig

Uni is more for research than for education, esp the good ones. Also state uni is not free but much cheaper.

>You don't need college education if you want to become a carpenter
That's not how it works in America. In order to get an apprentice position you need at least a 2 year degree and 4 years experience in the field.

America has plenty of qualified educated workers. The problem is non of them want to work for slightly above minimum wage so we need to import millions of Indians who will be happy to make $7 an hour.
