What phone should I buy instead, Sup Forums?
What phone should I buy instead, Sup Forums?
s8
iphoneX of course.
LG V20 was the last truly Sup Forums phone.
>go to /csg/
>look for cheap phones
>buy one for 150 dolla bills
>great camera, although never use it
>great battery
>shock resistant
>good performance
froze like 3 times in the past 8 months
yeah it's not even a year old so i can't say anything about it lifespan wise
why would you spend 1000 on a phone that does the same thing as a 150 and has the same expiration date?
Just get what you posted OP, the pixel 2 XL. If you have a qualifying phone, you can get some trade in value as well.
I bought one, a case and some google buds as well. I am excited to try wireless for the first time. I have one pair of headphones I mainly use, which I will attach the adapter to. I bought another adapter to keep on my desk for my home headphones. The analog jack is going away, Samsung will be next. Sony and LG will follow suit, Motorola and HTC already kind of did.
>The analog jack is going away, Samsung will be next. Sony and LG will follow suit, Motorola and HTC already kind of did.
I hate that this is true, but it is because the industry is dog shit.
>buying any phone with OLED display
Never do this, OP.
It was really good.
My current pixel xl has a OLED display, I've had no problems. My last phone was a 6P, which had an OLED as well.
BUY S8 NOW
BEST AMOLED SCREEN IN THE WORLD CHECK

The contrast and always on mode display of oled are pretty based but the burn in and oversaturated colours completely destroys his advantages.
IPS LCD are at least by now, better. Wait for microLED.
>BEST AMOLED SCREEN IN THE WORLD
If it was a good phone he wouldn't even had a amoled screen.
that' isn't my area of ocd. For me I can't buy a samsung. One big reason being is the useless bigsby button. I know it can be turned off, but I know its there. This useless button Samsung put there for their shitty google assistant clone.
>Have Nexus 6p
>Get it RMA'd and got a Pixel XL as replacement 2 weeks before P2 announcement
>Decide not to get it because why, nothing different
>notice I can trade in my FREE Pixel XL
>Get $400 trade in

I bought the XL 2
Xiaomi Mi A1 or Redmi Note 4X
My father has a V20
>Terrible battery life
>Overheats
>Lags everywhere
>Dedicated DAC and the audio jack is defective
>The second screen is useless
We had G3 and G4 too, they were utterly shit, and V20 is not different in any way
I did the same thing user. Exact same scenerio as you. Only I couldn't find the sim eject tool initially, so I used something else and accidentally scratched my pixel xl. Though the question criteria only asked if the screen was scratched and if the device turns on. I hope they don't take out some value for the scratch, which I assume they will. :(
Value they list will be around there. Don't think scratches matter desu. You'll be good, frond.
Redmi 4 Prime.
> Good camera
> HD screen
> Headphone jack
> SD card slot
> $149
There's on reason to buy a new fridge or washing machine next year if you bought a new one this year. They haven't changed much the last 10 years and won't change much the next 10. Phones are still rapidly improving, so much so that a cheap phone like the Redmi 4 Prime beats any 2 year old flag-ship hands down in all areas. I'd rather buy a $150 phone this year and a new one next year or the year after that instead of wasting $1000 on a phone that will be outdated in a year or two anyway. $150/year on a phone is fine, $1000+/year seems like a waste.
I did buy a iPhone 8 last week, though. My niece really wanted one. It was a complete waste of money and I'd never even consider buying some over-priced Apple product that doesn't even have a HD screen or a headphone jack for myself, it just seems so silly. But that's what she wanted.
hopefully, the scratch is not on the screen, but the back body near the sim eject area. A case covered it up nice, so I didn't really mind.
the pros outweigh the cons
it just werks
buy it now
but I'm selling my s8 because the palm rejection sucks, the speaker sucks, and it lags like a bitch even on a custom rom. Don't even get me started on the fingerprint scanner and face unlock, that's a whole other level of shit.
Getting a Pixel 2 XL to remind me of my old Nexus 6p but with updated specs. Couldn't give two shits about headphone jack since I use blutooth earbuds anyway.
This would be good advice were it not for TouchWiz.
Either get a Pixel or an iPhone. There are no other options, really. Everything else is bogged down to shit with gimmicky bloatware and patchy customer support, not to mention uncertain update certainty.
Pixel or iPhone. That's about it. Everything else is just terrible.
This.
I would pick iPhone because of the IPS display.
disable it and use nova launcher
>the palm rejection sucks, the speaker sucks, and it lags like a bitch even on a custom rom.
false info
How did we go from awesome $200-$400 Nexus devices, and decent Moto Phones with nearly stock Android, expandable storage, and fast reliable upgrades.
To $800 Pixel phones that have copied all the worst qualities of the iPhone?
>Have Moto g3
>Starting to go on the fritz
>GPS not working
>Lagging on simple apps
>Can't figure out what it is slowing down my once slick phone
What are some good but cheap Moto phones comparable to the moto G3
Moto is dead, Lenovo is just shitting out disappointing iPhone clones in their name.
The new Moto X4 costs the same as my Pure did two years ago but has a smaller screen, worse specs, and an objectively inferior design.
Even the 'One' program that was supposed to be Google's modern answer to Nexus has an X4 that's on an old version of Android with no firm commitment to on-time upgrades.
At this point I'm just fed up. I feel like the Librem phone is probably a scam, but something like that needs to happen.
I have a Moto G4. Before that I had a Moto G2... No complaints from either. The only reason I got the G4 is because the charging port broke on the G2 and I panic bought the G4 before realising I could have got the port on the G2 repaired... Which I then did so now I have two phones.
But it's nice having a phone cheap enough to panic buy. I don't understand what I'd gain from a more expensive device.
This is because Google's aim shifted with its cancellation of the Nexus program and introduction of the Pixel program.
With Nexus, Google was trying to set an example for how an Android phone should behave. They're saying, "Hey, everyone! Do this. Or at least do something similar. Lookin' at you, Samsung." Unfortunately, nobody listened and people kept pumping out shitty bogged down Android phones without even thinking about it. The Nexus line wasn't for average consumers. It was really more of a reference point; Google's way of saying, "This is our vision for what Android should be." A vision everyone ignored for years.
So now, Google has decided to hit them where it hurts: sales. Instead of trying to be a role model, why not just compete with them directly? They killed the Nexus program and spent a shit ton of money on marketing for the upcoming Pixel phones. They hyped it up to no end, hoping to at some point take a bite out of Samsung and LG's market share. Pixel is Google's first phone built for consumers as a big ol' 'FUCK YOU' to everyone else. The reason it's so expensive is because that's what everyone likes. People, unfortunately, like expensive things regardless of their actual quality. Take ABSOLUT Vodka, for example. When they first started out, their vodka was incredibly cheap but got absolutely demolished by critics. Nobody bought it as ABSOLUT built a reputation for making shitty vodka. Instead of fixing their product, however, they decided to just raise the price and spend a shitload on marketing and - surprise, surprise - it worked. Marketing saved ABSOLUT from certain death. Google's doing the same thing; they're building whatever kind of phones they want and setting them at an expensive price so people will actually buy them.
So far, their little evil plan has been working out fine just fine. They've singlehandedly raised the quality of their competitors' products ten-fold. (cont.)
Got my stock SD s8 with 0 shit apps through 1 adb command.
>Pure did two years ago but has a smaller screen, worse specs, and an objectively inferior design.
Never heard of the Pure (Whats the full name) or the xiaomi redmi 4 prime
Are these also as water resistant as the moto g3. I got use to the water resistance of the moto g3.
>Moto G4
Would you say the G4 is better than the G3 in your opinion
I know i will have to get a new phone but I don't want to downgrade either
(cont.)
Samsung went from selling shitty, plastic, cheap-feeling lagdroids (S5) to legitimately amazing, elegant flagships (S8). Same with LG, they've toned down their shitty skin and decided to actually put some effort into their designs this time, all because Google is getting their attention.
You think they couldn't do anything about those fuckhuge bezels on the Pixel? Nah. Google just wanted everyone else to focus on getting bezels to a much smaller range. Notice how Samsung almost immediately introduced their 'infinity display' on the S8 right after the Pixel debuted?
The bezels on the Pixel were basically a huge sign from Google. A huge target left there intentionally. An open flaw.
Google knows what they're doing and they're doing it well.
>Would you say the G4 is better than the G3 in your opinion
No idea, I skipped 3.
If you actually paid $150 this phone does none of those tings. Do you think you've cracked a code, and literally everyone else is paying for nothing?
The problem is what they're no longer doing is providing nice affordable reference devices for developers.
There's no good affordable way to get an official vanilla version of Android today.
Plus if Google goal with the Pixel is to create a desirable Halo devices that really points the way forward for other OEMs.
Why the fuck are they crippling them by removing half the usable features that I actually want out of a $800+ device.
Moto X Pure
It was a nearly vanilla Android phone with a 1440p screen, dual front speakers, expandable storage, head phone jack (fuck Google that I now have to list this as a 'feature'), and some really handy motion gesture support.
It was basically everything I want out of a premium cell phone but for $400.
Lenovo kind of ruined things by removing the promises of prompt updates, but its probably still a good device if you can find one in good condition for LineageOS.
>Plus if Google goal with the Pixel is to create a desirable Halo devices that really points the way forward for other OEMs.
>Why the fuck are they crippling them by removing half the usable features that I actually want out of a $800+ device.
That's not the goal anymore. That WAS the goal with the Nexus line.
The Pixel line is no longer to create a 'halo' device. It's purpose is to light a fire under the other manufacturers asses and make them try harder to make devices that appeal to the consumer. Google is trying to get Samsung and LG (and others) to play their game with the Pixel line. It's sort of their way of wrangling them in.
>head phone jack (fuck Google that I now have to list this as a 'feature'),
Seriously
Some of these budget phones don't even have a headphone jack. Its retarded!
I barely even use the headphone jack but I would like the option
Need
>120~300$ phone
>Head phone jack
>Little bloatware
>Good GPS
>Large mAh battery for all day use
I like Moto, but the best I can find is the moto Z play. And I don't think it has a headphone jack. I might have to bite the bullet on this new "upgraded feature"
The question still remains though, if they want to light a fire under the asses of the other OEMs to appeal to the customers or have Google eat their lunch.
Why the fuck aren't they building desirable devices with features that users want?
Who wants phones to still have 32GB of storage by default? That's the same amount of default storage my first smart phone had about a decade ago, and that phone supported SD cards.
Who wants to lose the audio jack without at the very least gaining a second USB C? We just had the massive bluetooth security vulnerability and Google wants us to now only have wireless headphones?
Pixel 2 base model is 64GB.
>touchwiz is only the launcher
This meme will end someday, just not sure when.
>people are still bent out of shape about microSD slots
GIVE IT UP HOLY FUCK
the aux cord I understand but microSD cards fucking suck. good riddance.
That's good I guess, but really kind of pathetic.
My current phone has over 4 times as much storage and could be easily expanded to more than that.
Its still an unfortunate fact of life outside of California that there are a lot of dead zones or areas with really slow connections.
Why not 128, or 256GB standard?
>Why the fuck aren't they building desirable devices with features that users want?
You are an enthusiast, not a typical user. Most users don't give a shit about any of the stuff you just listed besides the audio jack. And companies are removing the audio jacks just because Apple did it. And Apple, for whatever reason, does not seem to give a single fuck about sales whatsoever. They just do what they want, when they want and fuck who's watching. I kind of like that about them, but it gets real fucking annoying quickly because of how much influence they have.
Android OEMs have zero reason to remove the headphone jack but they're blindly doing it anyway because Apple did it, so it must be OK.
But otherwise, consumers don't care about that stuff. Companies don't care about small fringe groups like Sup Forums.
What command was that?
>palm rejection
On a cell phone? Numeme?
>speaker sucks
Yes
>lags like a bitch
You don't actually care about a millisecond of delay, idiot
>fingerprint and face unlock
Hell yeah they suck, no disagreement there
>buying a phone without SD slot and Google trackware
Whatever you say, psycho.
Getting a Note 8 cause better screen and headphone jack
Was really looking forward to the 2XL and really looking for a reason to like it but that crappy v30 display and no headphone jack is deplorable
Fuck google
>Google trackware
How is it any more trackware than stock Android from another manufacturer?
>another thing ruined by normies
Just stop being poor and buy the $1000 phone bitch
$800+ Phone.
Somehow not an 'enthusiast' device.
It's no that bad for flagships to lose headphone jack cause if you can afford a premium phone you can afford premium wireless earbuds. If you really want a headphone jack you can just get a mid-range phone for that
Or just keep the dongle on the headphones you carry with you
the absolute delusion
>being so rich you intentionally buy crippled shittier new phone to force yourself to buy more expensive accessories
If they'd include a second USB C connection for that use case I'd be ok with that.
This one port bullshit needs to be stopped.
Is the Essential Phone even good?
xz1/c
No one can give me a straight answer to this question
The s8 already has a lineage build
The next Sony Xperia phone.
I don't mind if it's never getting Pajeet OS :^)
The only exceptional things are the build quality and display but it's at least good enough everywhere else, so it's up to you if that's worth the cost
Enjoy your vanilla experience!
Oh, wait. Hmmm
Picking up the Note 8 this week myself, upgrading from the S6 Edge Plus. Looks like a great phone.
not 800 when you sign up for the payment plan :^)
XIAOMI
I'm surprised apple hasn't gotten rid of the charge port completely. Frankly, I bet that's the next step. Remove any ports at all, and only wireless charging. Data transfer entirely through bluetooth or through some proprietary transfer system they develop.
Pixel 2 XL is the best phone in the world. There are cheaper phones, yes. However, if you want the best experience in the world and are willing to pay for it then the only logical choice is the Pixel 2 XL. I used to use pleb phones and chinese phones, then I got a real job and now I don't compromise on my smart phone anymore. There's no reason to cheap out on the most important device that you will use every single day.
That would be my biggest nightmare.
8/10 not bad
All of these samsung shills are delusional. Even if you do get rid of the bloatware, you still have to use touchwiz. Just buy a moto x pure.
>2015
Moto Z Play has 3,5 mm jack
I've been also thinking about getting it. Though it seems to be quite expensive in my country..
Pixel 2 XL is to big would rather have regular Pixel 2
iPhone SE 64 GB or 128 GB (I have 64 GB) cheap, small, powerful smartphone comparable to even S8
SE 2 in March.
I don’t get the obsession with giant phones.
Apples profit margins happened.
Alternatively XZ1 Compact.
OP here, I'm actually switching off of an iPhone 7 because iOS 11 is a clusterfuck and Apple can't build a good phone without Jobs keeping them from releasing buggy firmware.
Pixel 2 just looks the best right now.
are the HTC phones any good?
will Sony modernize their flagships in the near future?
>No keyboard
>Not keyboard but I'll allow it
Get a Keyone
>are the HTC phones any good?
Yes
>will Sony modernize their flagships in the near future?
They're already modern
Even LG's ditched IPS with the V30, user. It's time, user.
Moto G5. Every other option is just false.
Google Sony Mirai, supposedly they're pushing a new design language which means they're going to start copy pasting the shit phones like the S8 and iDrone X. If we're lucky they'll look to Chinkphones and the Sharp designs instead of the 3D glass bullshit.
Don't think Sony and LG are giving up on it just yet, the first one has a big market share in the headphones market and the second uses it practically as marketing.
Anything with a micro SD card slot.
>LeNOvorola
>I hate on brands instead of looking at the product
Way to go m8
Wait™ for the OnePlus 6.
*only*
fairphone or buy used, consumerism is for chinks
fairphone isn't too good with updates though.
People like this should have been aborted.
