Update AMD drivers
>AMD

guess how I know your story is made up
>install windows
>need internet access to download NIC drivers
>Update nVidia drivers
>Performance decreases by 15%
Try to upgrade and drivers
Amdgpu pro doesn't support 7970
Amdgpu isn't supported due to legacy
Kernel drivers do video out but can't render or be used for gaming so it uses CPU rendering
Nah man fuck and drivers
This is why modern GNU/Linux distros are so comfy. Never seen a NIC not working.
>download quake champions "patch"
>it's 11gb
>quake champions
Is it as shit as I think it is? I mean esports wise. I can't see it becoming the next big Quake with this champions bullshit. Sure might be a fun shooter. but for pro gaming you need it to be fair.
Nvidia's driver is a 435MB download and extracts to well over a gigabyte. GPUs were a mistake.
They fucked up to be honest. They've sunk into the same rabbit hole as assfaggots, where they have too many moving parts that are difficult to balance around and "fun" mechanics like Nyx's invisibility while ok escape for an otherwise shit champion in low bracket turns into a glass cannon rapist in hands of a pro because you get uncontested rails.
It'd be fine if the modes they were pushing weren't shit. I don't like the champion stuff much but it's not game breaking or anything.
That's exactly what I thought. We'll probably never get a a real new Quake again and esports will be defined by Counterstrike and assfaggots. It was so much better when everyone played Quake.
It's honestly not that bad.
>update AMD drivers
>games crash even more
That's why I still use a driver from months ago
Yeah maybe as a fun shooter, but not you build a clan for, train multiple hours per day, create tactics, etc. and then play in competitive tournaments, which I was hoping to do again.
It's been a while since my Quake 2 days and I kinda got the itch again.
At one point I was co founder of a clan that was able to compete with the best from Europe and Russia.
>update mpv
>suddenly got screen tearing and a horrible ui
That's why I still use a version from 2 years ago.
>mpv
UI
I thought mpv was a GUIless program that simply plays media
If you move the mouse, it pops up a few buttons for pause/play, next/previous video and so on.
For some reason they decided to completely fuck them up compared to the 2015 version.
those are 6 year old gpus, there's no reason to offer drivers for it when most people moved on
>7970 doesn't even get driver updates anymore
Shit, I still think of that as a high end card
An rx 560 can trade blows with it user, let it go
>install Linux
>Nothing works
>t. iToddler
>Year 2000+17
>He still cares about file sizes
Stop being a third worlder jamal
why is it not a static 600 KB? drivers should always be the same size.
it wouldn't have been the same even if the client was the same.
>Update Nvidia Drivers
>11kb
>
doesn't even get driver updates anymore
>Shit, I still think of that as a high end card
It really was the last great card ever made. Everything since has been overpriced underperforming.
The Maxwell's came close, but nothing was as satistfying as the 7970.
>click install
>it starts downloading the installer
Pro drivers aren't for you, moron. Mesa is what you want.
? Takes 1.5 minutes on normal internet.
I never said i it was still high end, it's just weird to think that it's not only high end, but not even receiving driver updates anymore.
*not only not high
Then you havent used much linux
>updating drivers
I doubt a 770 is either
>update amd drivers
>7950 gpu stuck on 500mhz and vram stuck on 150mhz
>revert drivers
>everything back to normal
it's been like this for fucking months now
> 1.5 minutes
way too much desu
Doesn't AMDGPU have experimental support for GCN 1.0? You'd probably have to build the kernel yourself, though.
...
Does mesa even have full opencl support yet?
I agree completely with this
Exactly, even today the and drivers are still a pain to get working.
