Librem 5 Just Hit The Funding Goal

Go get in while there's time

puri.sm/shop/librem-5/

Why is this allowed to live while WP dies?

Microsoft is deprecated

>t. microshaftshill

DOA

does it have libre hardware

Now actually release the phone by the end of 2019 and I'm buying it, even I have to go through customs.

It'll be abandoned, like all other "free" phones.

Kek

Fucking nice. It's still twice as expensive as it should be desu so I probably won't get it.

Yes, except for the baseband which is connected over a serial bus, with a hardware kill switch.

Whether it is or not who gives a shit? Even if you don't use the default OS, porting Android and Ubuntu Phone to something like this will be super simple since all the drivers are in the mainline kernel already.

Baseband has proprietary firmware, but is also hanging off USB and is recognized as a serial device (no DMA) while the userland modem code is free

Basically it's like complaining that your 16GB Kingston flasdrive has proprietary firmware, it can't really do anything.

Open source modems and switches to a lesser degree are things that will never, ever happen due to legal shit.

Source code mixed in with a few assemblies can be found for some Qualcomm chips including the Oneplus one, they all leaked on Baidu Pan. I think the torrent is indexed on btdb

I believe some ZTE phones actually have open source firmware too though for the baseband/modem.

You can't use that leaked code in production without getting sued.

No, but if the hardware were used users can take and compile. There's a guide on XDA.

More useful would be if someone would reverse the binaries and then take those plus the source to write a truly free driver for it.

There's a hexagon decompiler tool for ida so it's possible.

>have open source routers up the wazoo
>but no concrete open switch hardware

How did this situation happen?

Routers can use general purpose hardware until you start literally serving millions of concurrent connections, then you just jump to Cisco.
Switches need dedicated hardware (ASIC/FPGA) to do their job to a properly, so no cheap and open hardware.

GIVE ME INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING NOW!!

I cant see this going well. it would make more sense imo to make a phone based on replicant.

Android is shit. It would make no sense doing this.

fffffffffffffffffffffuckkkkkkkk I really don't need to spend $600 right now

The most optimistic schedule has the phone releasing two years from now. Plenty of time to set some money aside for this. I normally wouldn't spend this much on the phone but running proper Linux makes me reconsider. At that price though, I expect to be able to disassemble the entire phone. I would also like an add-on keyboard since it's going to have a proper terminal.

you'll only spend like $200
Sup Forums loves buying second hand or refurbished stuff.
Look at the thinkpad autists

bump

I hope you are right.

Androshit on suicide watch.

Microsoft wants it to die... Microsoft shills wouldn't question it. So no.

We wait for 2020 for a good version.

What about the apps?
How many years of updates will it get?

It runs generic linux software.

>What about the apps?
It'll run HTML5 apps and they'll be isolated. That's all they've stated so far.

>How many years of updates will it get?
How long do you have left to live?

the power of autism

So I can theoretically use desktop apps?

Gnome is more or less touchscreen friendly.
