Is the Wifi card on the X230 crappy or is it something else that's causing my Wifi to crap itself? I just want to know what kind of performanceI should expect before I go out and buy one of those USB Wifi adapters.

second for original image

Asked this question on the previous thread but didn't get many replies.
a)Is this purchase worth it?
b)Why isn't there an option to add 2 drives in the site? Does this model accept 1 sata drive + 1 pcie drive?
>underlined the important details so it's easier for you

What adapter are you using?

anyone know where I can get a decent condition t500 screen + lid?
Can't really find any on ebay

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205, I have to sit really far away from the router so I'm wondering if I'll get better performance from a standalone adapter since the adapter in this is at least 4 years old at this point, so something better has to be available.

Have you installed the latest drivers if you're on windows?
Swapping the wifi card requires a BIOS mod, but i doubt that it is the problem. it should be handle things fine (and i doubt that you need more than ~100Mbit/s anyway)
USB wifi adapters are usually worse unless you get one with large antennae

I want to buy a brand new thinkpad but I don't want to be cucked if the lineup is updated with 8th gen processors and gtx 1000 series gpus RIGHT after I buy the thing. When will they be released in your estimation? Sorry if it's a dumb question.

If you've got the money, why not? Just buy the basic model(4gb ram with hdd, not ssd) and upgrade it yourself.

Yup, I have the latest drivers. I just want something with a stronger signal because it constantly drops in and out, I won't be able to get more than like 1.20 MB/s here anyways

Have you set power to 100% in both router and the card's settings?

Is the ThinkPad 600E a good machine? I got one from my dead grandpa

install linux and watch trap porn on it, i'm sure he would be proud

what's the best price/performance thermal paste for my memepad?

I was going to install Debian on it but it doesn't able to booted from USB and I don't have any optical media. I was going to set up a netboot but it only has an RJ11 connector and my network is too modern!

Good as maybe a win98 machine

These two screws wont budge. Does anyone know how to get them out? (x230t)

It has Windows 2000 on it now and once it finally gets booted it's pretty snappy but is it a good laptop?

go back in time and don't strip the bottom one

Why are you removing those cards anyway?

your stripped them
good job idiot

You fucked the shit out of the one in the bottom. Use pliers and try to screw it out.

Grab a rubberband and put it between the phillips head and the screw and press down and unscrew.

>that fucking screw
what the fuck did you do?

It wont budge after all this time. I'm trying to remove it for an msata drive

buy an internet card like the old days

this

>What did you do?
Fucked up my favorite screwdriver

Yeah when I got it I saw a pcmcia wireless card that I didn't take, I guess I could just buy one

>manages to break two things while fixing one

good idea

Try a JIS bit. I have sometimes had that help over a Phillips. Depress with about 10 lb of pressure, slowly turn it out. Do not let the driver slip on the head.

Guys I'm nervous. I bought a Thinkpad (shipping now) that doesn't have a keyboard or touchpad. I ordered those separately, but now I'm in a panic that I won't have the screws for it. I'm literally shaking now.

guys pls

you posted your mistake before.
good job retard

That pear kind of looks like a naked lady from behind if you just glance at it.

Source: I know that's a pear and I've also seen pics of naked ladies.

wut aren't screwkits easy to obtain?

I would not expect screws to come with the Thinkpad and you'd be very lucky if they were with the replacement parts too, figure out what you need and get ordering, at worst they will be ideal spares in case the others go walkies

why is that better than this?
ebay.com/itm/New-Arctic-Silver-5-AS5-3-5G-Premium-Thermal-Compound-3-5-g-grams-Paste-Grease-/172341959065?epid=1795396253&hash=item2820619999:g:S3YAAOSwmfhX2WQ3

What is the best thinkpad for gaming?

How can I order screws for a Thinkpad where I don't know the ones that are missing? So I have to wait for the Thinkpad, figure out missing screws, order screws, wait for screws. A long and difficult process that just causes so much stress. The worst thing is they probably just threw the old screws away with no concern about us people who have panic attacks over these things.

None, sadly. Buying a TP for gaming is like buying a mac for gaming..
You'll be disappointed.

Back in 2008 Artic Silver was the best, but by 2012 I think MX2 was the best. Maybe something else is better now, but it can't be that much better than MX2.

I saw some kits, meaning all the screws, for a couple of bucks. Stop sperging out and have fun.

I thought, AS5 > MX4 > MX2? But don't get me wrong, they're like 1C within each other, they're all good.

I'm sorry, I meant MX-4.

You also need a new screen for that

What are some good ebay listings for the x200?

ive heard of people putting an eGPU on their thinkpad, but man just built a desktop for gaming you ding dong

Check!
>but now in addition to screws I'm worried my thermal paste is too old

Of course you should renew the paste and clean the heatsink, buy some MX2 and it will be fine

Thinkbros!
I want to buy a new housing for a T500 that I have, it's got some cracks.
My model has the gpu though, was there a difference in the housings between the integrated and discreet models?
Also, is it true there's an xeon cpu that would fit in mine? Does it run significantly hotter than the core2duo?
Finally, is there anyway to get rid of the background hiss from the audio jack?

Just repasted my t420. Temps don't go over 80 now with the cpu fully loaded and the gpu turned on. Was surprised at how easy it was to dissasemble. Very little screw variety. Even the palmrest clips weren't that bad.

try sheilding your own cables
I'm gonna do that when I replace my housing too.
And yes, they use the same housing.

user pls muh pea method

Also upgrade to a quad core processor for maximum memes.

Anyone? (Sorry for the stupid question)

Thinkpads are not gaming laptops. They sell laptops with full GTX 1060/1070/1080 chips. If you want those then go with them.

None
Get a Dell Precision m4600 and put in a Firepro m5100 for the certified Engineering Laptop Experience™

thats the old paste. what quadcores work well with the t420? I have the modded bios installed already (needed it for intel 7260).

with foil?
and great, thanks alot.
Seems like pretty major surgery though

any laptop sandy bridge quadcore will be compatible with the popular choice being the 2720qm, i suppose anything higher than that will be housefire land.

I've got £800 to spend on a laptop, I really love the trackpoint on the thinkpad and I don't think I can do without it. What should I buy?

a thinkpad

I just broke my family laptop in rage. They don't know it yet, but I'm going to end up buying a new laptop. they spent less than $400 on this one, and that is what I'm willing to spend
>Inb4 anger management program you ape.

I see think generals here all the time, and I read that they are good for overall basics (Word, Excel, browser). What model would you recommend for that price.

t420 so everyone will die from eye cancer

Get a toughbook, lel
If you have to have a thinkpad, a T420?

Just bought an x200 and I've got a couple of questions. I'm planning on librebooting it and idk if I need to be careful which SSD and RAM I choose to upgrade it with because I think I read somewhere that you can only use devices without proprietary firmware blobs (wifi card etc).

Also on a less technical note, are there any decent laptop sleeves for the x200?

which one in the t series

Screws are attached to the keyboard/touchpad.

>source: I bought an ANSI keyboard (fuck ISO) and a T450 trackpad for my T440s.

no idea, check the op according with your requirements

why not P50/51?

>I bought an ANSI keyboard (fuck ISO)
kek i do the same but backwards, get an ANSI layout with my thinkpads from the US and replace the keyboard with ISO layouts

>family laptop
ewww, a family computer should only be a desktop system

lmao funny you should ask I had ebay email me about a lot listing of screen and lids and just bought it. I may put the rest I'm not using back up on ebay at some point other than that good luck and subscribe to the search terms "WUXGA t500" ,"WUXGA w500", "1920x1200 t500" and "1920x1200 w500"

Considering getting my first memepad off ebay, but I don't have an account yet. Does Sup Forums use real personal info?

forgot to add there are only used screens for any of the librebootable ones so it's a gamble no matter what. The first screen I got had a small scratch so seriously good luck.

List of recommended updates for a W7 Pro fresh install? I'm trying to avoid any botnet/bloat.

What's ThinkPad's peak in design and build quality, ignoring raw computational power?

TrackPoint and feel of the keyboard. Without those things you just have a generic shit-teir business laptop that every other manufacturer makes.

Microsoft has been spying on users all along. Whoever started this drama about Windows 10 starting it only causes people like you to waste time and energy on trying to "minimalize" it whilst using a outdated system with none of the latest security mitigation allowing people worse than ms to become a concern.

Install a FOSS operating system and quit LARPing about actually caring about privacy.

All of them. You can't avoid getting the telemetry update anyway since it's backed into the recent security update packs, so use services.msc to disable it later
T60p
trackpoint isn't exclusive to thinkpads, every other business notebook has them (and they are all made by synaptics anyway)

701c

That keyboard is prone to break

if you dont manage to get it out get a drill and be really carefull and drill through the head

I meant what model of ThinkPad reached peak level of design and build quality.
>T60p
Can you tell me why? What makes it better than the rest?
>701c
Sure it looks cool.

Not just foil though, you'll need an insulator like electrical tape. There are probably videos to explain it better than I can though.

>x20 series
>modern

>T440p
>good
macfag detected

>Can you tell me why? What makes it better than the rest?
First model with the magnesium rollcage that does protect the hardware from bending and flexing, which was a common problem with the models before it
Last model with a good IPS screen and 4:3, the widescreen models after it had huge bezels. Build quality went down after it with every model, it's only really noticeable when comparing them directly.

>Screws are attached to the keyboard/touchpad.
Cool if they are, but the eBay pics don't show them.

Just share your laptop with your sister user. You only got it because of that job your mom got you.

no thunderbolt

Cool. Now, what about considering computational power in the equation?

fucking UPS lying about delivery date.

It was also one of the first models with a dual core CPU(Core duo, can be upgraded to core2 duo first gen)
It's still usable for shitposting with Win7

Just to get you to start thinking... Can I ask you what computational power you're talking about and what you need it for? Because it's very subjective actually.

Has anyone had a stick of memory randomly die on them?
>booted X230 with a new USB stick inserted
>logged in, screen went purple/screen artifacts
>screen won't turn on
>turns out one ram card is fucked but both ram slots are functioning

Serves me right for running 12gb? Guess I'll go for 16gb now.

Forgot to ask, how much power can be saved by running 1 ram card instead of 2? Is it negligible?

+1
