Is the only way to get new bezels and palmrest casings on my x220 to buy broken thinkpads for parts off ebay?

What is the best thinkpad for gayming?

Got an X61 Tablet with a 64gb SSD and 3gb of RAM for $28, is it usable in the current year?

I'm not entirely sure about an ULV 17w Core 2 Duo in the year 2017.

I'm about to get a used T430 from my job in pristine condition. Is there anything else to do besides putting an SSD and 16gb of RAM to have a glorious experience?

If I'm considering buying new thinkpad should I just go for it or wait for 8th gen CPU versions?

alienware mod
9-cell battery
quad core processor
ssd+hdd+hdd triple drive setup
anime wallpaper and anime bios logo

Just got a T420s as an upgrade from my T400. i5, 4GB ram, 128 GB SSD, 1600x900 screen. Nothing too fancy.
I was going to buy it for €90 which was reasonable enough, but the guy just gave it to me and refused to take my money. I had told him I was a student earlier, and he said I needed the money more then he did.
The screen does have some blemishes, and I had asked if it was in good condition and without scratches, so maybe that had something to do with it as well.

Where do I get my miku bios logo?

>I was going to buy it for €90 which was reasonable enough, but the guy just gave it to me and refused to take my money. I had told him I was a student earlier, and he said I needed the money more then he did.
dude wat

I'd buy him a beer or a coffee at least, he seems like a bro.

Is the processor replaceable? Damn I'm starting to like this thing...

Wouldn't it overheat tho? Any way to improve the temperatures? (I don't know if the T430 has bad temperatures, I've just had bad experiences with laptops and overheating)

Yes it is and replacing the stock dual core processors for quad cores is pretty popular among thinkfags.

No idea about the T430 though but they work fine on the T420 as long as you don't go full madman and use the latest quad cores or the 55W extreme processors.

if he didn't molest you for it then you got a pretty good deal there

Trying to get this beautiful shitbox to work

what thinkpad can I get for £600? I'v got my student loan to spend on a laptop for college, I want a FHD screen and a decent, at least 6 hour, battery charge.

We met at his workplace which was some fuckhueg engineering firm. All he got was a thank you and a handshake. I thought about sending him the money anyway, but that would be kinda weird since he already refused it.

Often times you can find the parts you need on eBay.

aliexpress

Recommend me SSD for T430. I only have money for a 128Gb one, for the OS and some other stuff, already have an HDD for files. Which brands and models are best? Also, should I go mSATA port or regular 2.5 ssd for the ultrabay?

I'm thinking of putting a SATA 3 SSD in my x230.

This little sucker amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-PLUS-Sata-inch-Internal/dp/B01F9G43WU/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8#Ask

Is there anything I need to know about? Like any adapters I might need to buy? Special SATA cable?

Is it better value a Thinkpad T470p or a P51?

Hmm, maybe I should look at a Dell latitude instead

The T420 Thinkpads that come with dedicated Nvidia GPUs can have the gpu removed?

Dunno, but you can deactivate them on the BIOS and use the integrated only.

msata if you want the option to have 3 drives in the future, 2.5" if you don't care about that.

What an odd way to ask that. Did you have a stroke mid sentence?

T420 and docking station for just under 200 bucks. Thoughts?

well duh

Not bad senpai. Specs?

How are the screens of thinkpads in sunlight? Or at least in shade. I like to compute outside a lot. I was looking at x220's but one review mentioned the screens are dim and unusable in the sun.

Can you flash Oleg's modded bios on a t420 with a rasppi? It should theoretically be the same as flashing core/libreboot to it.

Also >tfw can't update your Hackintosh partition to High Sierra

- Intel i5 2.5 GHz
- 4 GB RAM
- 160 GB HDD

The HDD is pretty shit, but I'll save up and upgrade it to an SSD maybe

Should I get a T430 or a T430s?

They both have a i5-3320M, so what's the difference?

A bit expensive, I see those across the pond for that price.

I'm in a eastern european country and I don't have much choice. It's within my budget, so the price isn't a problem.

Then write in Euros бpaтaн. Go for it, it's an ok price. Although you should try and see if you can find a better deal, I found one just like that with a 500gb hdd, 8gb of ram and the i7 (not that it matters, but you know).

>tfw thought my refurbished thinkpad had a cum stain on the mouse slider(or whatever the fuck it called)
>start scraping it off
>not cum, so protective cover or something
>looks like shit

weight, the s cant change the cpu, the t430 has better cooling and ultrabay for an extra HD, usually the T430 is cheaper. I would go for the T430

the s means its thinner but you can't replace the cpu and it's slightly slower
unless you want something a little thinner i would get a t430

Not everyone's a shitty burger

FUCK i was literally beat by 2 seconds

Right there with you. I'll tell you in a few days when it gets here. I'm sure it'll be fine though, just not for Windows.

N-notice me pls

When do you need it? Refresh won't be until January most likely

What do you think of the old thinkpad a31p with Pentium 4 mobile?
A nice machine or what?

No i7, nothing more than 4 gigs, and a couple with more disk space, if I remember correctly. This is the best I could find. I could probably get it cheaper without the docking station, but it kinda want it. And 170 euros ain't that bad.

It's always better to wait

I don't need it NOW, but I don't want to wait until spring, and this year new models came out in march/april AFAIR

There's no touchpad. How do you even use it user

Then take the default response: x220/t420 with ram, ssd, fhd, and quad core. That's what you came for right? Don't waste bandwidth thanking me.

Is it worth getting an mSATA SSD for the T430 or should I just stick to a 2.5" SATA SSD?

Afaik it's only SATA II

If you even need the mouse, just use the keyboard nipple. Touchpads are shit.

>user wants new thinkpad
>recommend 5years old antique

You're checking ebay or your local craigslist?

Local Craigslist-type site

what is the purpose of this

i guess copying CDs like it's fucking '99

it can be used for Windows XP
it was made when Windows XP was still around
it is 100% compatible

i though all x30 series run their msata at 6.0g/s

Is 850€ for a T460p (i5-6300HQ, 8GB Ram, 500GB SSD,1920x1080) a good deal?

x230 has it slower than 430

You should check out ebay senpai, auctions for example, you can find some nice gems in there.

Eastern Europe, so Ebay's not really an option. And this way I can meet up with the guy and test it out before buying it.

Last month I bought a T460 for college, it was 530 euros which I figured was a really nice price. Here I'm seeing many people sticking to 430 and 420. How big are the differences? Did i dun goofed or was it an acceptable choice.

Nah I think you did fine. Enjoy your laptop

What OS will you use on the msata?

No, they are soldered on.

...

LMAO

Any 30 pin wuxga 16:10 ips lcds for the thinkpad t61 widescreen? Not the tn or tft ones i mean a ips one.

Tell me all the advantages of a t470 over a t430. Please, in language someone who asks strangers what computer to get will understand.

it faster
it look sleeker
screen better
it tastebetter
feel better
keyboard both ashit, pikpoison

just fuck off and buy a Macbook. Coming to a Thinkpad General and asking for a new machine is completely defeating the point of why we are here.

Pros: Newer, better battery, better screen.

Cons: Arguably worse keyboard, twice the prices at best

Ubuntu

Not everyone ITT is poor.

Is getting the 9 cell for my T420 worth it? I hear you can get 8-10 hours of battery life. I'm on Linux btw

you´ll hardly notice the difference, you have a max of 260mb/seg on sata II you´ll have to be really autist to care, if you are choosing between the SSD or MSATA SSD go for the cheaper option, if you want SSD and HD combo go for MSATA

its more like 4-6 max

I always depends on the use you give. it could give you 4-10 hours on full charge.

>just fuck off and buy a Macbook
but thanks for that brilliant argument

Just stuff like general web browsing, light YouTube stuff perhaps. Also, when you install it in Linux do you have to drain it completely and then charge it completely? Or something like that

what are you talking about draining completely?
You can use it normal.

How do you do the bios splash screen mod? I have Antergos if that matters on a T430

Alright /tpg/, I've just ordered a beat up x220. Have I been memed?

If you like throwing your money away, you won't be rich for long.

tell me /tpg/
x220 or x230, and why?

Fine, but most of us are thrifty and cynical.

>looking through thinkwiki
>see x200s
>that libreboot
>that 1440x900
only problem is that they're hard to find, any suggestions other than lurking ebay?

X230, you can put the x220/t420 keyboard in it
And it's got better specs and slimmer i believe, only downside is the processor can't be replaced

Google. It was some personal blog bullshit.

You're extremely limited in size though (30kb bitmap iirc)

Man Reddit sure is great guys

I got a T500 from work for free what linux distribution should I thow on it?

erase that filth from here nigga

>just bought a T420
>fingers itching to buy an X200

Samsung Evo 250gb sata3 was for sale on Newegg for like $92. Might still be.

Anyone here with a 1080p T420/T430?

Huh, didn't know there was a thinkpad subreddit. Awesome.

do the boot splash screen strech if i have a 16:9 panel?

You Sup Forumsuys jelly?

nigger there's a subreddit for literally everything
