HDMI is for media devices, like TV's, BluRay players, games consoles.
DP is for computers and computer monitors.

My 1440p monitor has HDMI in, and it was cheap as fuck. Like, absolute bargain basement territory. I think it might actually be the very cheapest 27" 1440p. It has DP, DVI, and VGA in too.
I don't know why you would buy a monitor without plenty of inputs. Limiting yourself to DP only just seems dumb.
