Oculus, the VR company that Mark Zuckerberg bought for more than $2 billion...

>Oculus, the VR company that Mark Zuckerberg bought for more than $2 billion, has a problem: It’s struggling to convince people to buy its gear.

Yeah, maybe if it didn't cost the same as a new car, then we would buy it you fucking jew

Yup. VR is mostly not convincing because it is still not as amazing as often advertised and it's expensive enough for something that you're not going to use frequently. People will spend months playing a console, but not this.

New technology that only a niche give a shit about is expensive, what an amazing discovery.

>low demand
>this makes it expensive
lol

Yes user, few give a shit about VR already so why should they charge less for it. New and emerging technologies will always be more expensive until consumers are willing to pay for it and then the price will lower as demand increases.

>Oculus
I fucking hate nu Sup Forums

>more expensive until consumers are willing to pay for it and then the price will lower as demand increases

Don't worry, all they need to suceed is the creativity and passion of the game industry to come up with new ways to use the device!

>Installing facebook drivers in ring-0

Nope.
Not ever.

Economics doesn't work this way, you bakas.

Except thats true mr sarcastic cunt, do you really think rat poison would sell if no rats existed?
Once big studios start releasing for VR and VR becomes cheaper it will pretty much kill monitors when gaming is considered, same ar cars killed horse carriages

Give people a reason to want to buy VR headsets and you'll see them be less expensive.

it does, because production cost per unit lowers when you start mass production.

I saw several very promising technologies being killed by the complete lack of creativity of the current game industry, and i don't think VR will escape the fate either.
Even nintendo of all things gave up depending on the game industry creativity completely, by making the "gimmick" of their device an "box that also run regular games on the go".
If the tech was available let's say 20 years ago, it would have a much better chance to succeed, as would get companies like enix and old capcom doing things for it.

Nintendo tried VR years ago and it was absolute shit. Normalfags and other consumers will just assume that VR is another fad and not waste their money on it

you aren't taking into account people's aversion to routinely wearing heavy dark sweaty goggles that cut off your vision.

> comparing a 1x224, mirror scanned image to a modern LCD.

You could have just told us you enjoy balls in your mouth, it would have been less embarrassing.

I was saying current tech, in the past.

Maybe if it wouldn't be made my facebook I'd buy one

>they fell for the VR meme

i thought retards stayed away outside of summer holidays ?

You actually think normalfags won't compare modern attempts at VR to previous failed attempts at VR and completely disregard it on past failures alone? Waifu simulators and ability to play a handful of games in VR isn't good enough for most consumers. Face it, you need to make it cool among normalfags if you ever want this to be anything more than experimentation.

The 90's called they want their shitty gimmick back.

first version of anything is trash
first computer could only like multiply numbers and it took and entire room
In a decade or so the VR will be basically sunglasses

> normalfags don't buy modern cars because Ford Pintos and Chevy Volts catch fire if you look at them wrong.

Thats how retarded you sound. Normies are fully aware of technological advancement, or they would not fall over themselves to buy the latest flagship product. I concede there is no "killer apps" yet, but you cannot honestly believe an obscure game system from 22 years ago has any bearing in your modern consumers mind.

Source on pic?

>normalfags won't compare modern attempts at VR to previous failed attempts
yeah that is a big problem
But, thankfully normalfags are also retards, so you can trick them by simply renaming the new devices from VR to say AP (altered projection) or some buzzword shit and they will eat it up

> what is image search
Why the fuck are you on Sup Forums?

I was just using the virtual boy as an example of previous failed attempts of VR. Yes, normalfags won't think of the virtual boy when they scoff at VR, but it is another failed attempt that has given normalfags a lack of faith in VR

>imagine a qt grill playing VR while her eyes and ears are basically turned off so you can sniff her puss, and stare at her boobs and call her slut to get yourself off and she will never even know

THE VR MUST SURVIVE!

normalfags literally dont fucking care
its just too expensive
all these other 'reasons' are retarded aint nobody wanna spend $500+ on VR regardless of how impressive it is

> normalfags won't think of the virtual boy when they scoff at VR
> nother failed attempt that has given normalfags a lack of faith in VR

So which one is it you cock socket? They are not considering it, or they are, which has given them a lack of faith..?

>normalfags literally dont fucking care
And it's why it'll remaind fucking expensive until they do.

Man I wanna suck on those tits

>more expensive until mainstream consumers are willing to consider it and then the price will lower to make it appeal to them

What I'm trying to say is that they won't immediately think of the virtual boy when they think of VR, but the virtual boy is one of many previous attempts at VR as this hot new thing that has given normalfags the impression it's nothing more than a fad and won't take off until that goes away.

>what is supply, the post
>accuses others of not understanding economics

Sorry, I assumed it was a screenshot and reverse image search wouldn't yield any useful results.

Then why do they have no problems spending $1000 on iphones

Because they associate the iphone with being cool, hip, trendy, etc. They're willing to pay the price because they became convinced the price for cool is worth it. They see these VR headsets and think you look like a dork.

Also an iphone is something they use every day, and this thing has a good chance of ending up thrown in the cupboard after a few weeks.

good marketing
VR is just to play bad videogames (even when it is for more than that)

Facebook is considered hip and trendy though, if they can't sell vr then nobody can and i am fucking tired of only being able to interact with my waifu on this fucking antiquated caveman 24" plastic rectangle

>Facebook is considered hip and trendy
sure, grampa

They still think VR headsets is only for gamers and waifufags. Facebook needs to improve their marketing.

I can afford any consumer tech I want. I have somewhere around $3000 in completely disposable income per month. I use a phone all day, it's the most important piece of tech I own. I have no problem with buying a $1000 phone.

However, I'm not filthy rich, and I'm not dumb with my money, and more importantly my time is limited, so I see no value in VR. It's also a mess of wires and I have enough damn wires to deal with.

Don't make me laugh.
Since 93' VR => Sega

Because 90% of iPhone users are poorfags who pay for it in monthly payments

>only for gamers and waifufags.
it kind of is, the only other people who can use it are like 3D architects and shit, that is a tiny niché market, nobody wants to look at instagram with VR.
Although with the google cardboard camera, 360 degree photos could be a big vr pull for normalfags

Calm down Harvey

I wouldn't buy an oculus regardless and that's because jewberg owns it.

Previous attempts were even more laughable in the 80s. Remember how the powerglove was supposed to be awesome and you can play all your nintendo games with just moving your hands? Remember how this was supposed to make way for even more virtual reality in the future? What a disaster that was, games weren't playable in the slightest.

Whos gonna buy electronics probably intended for watching porn from literally Facebook?

It's not any different than from what we have today?

Remember how all these VR sets (oculus/vive/ps4 vr) told you, you could play all these awesome games in VIRTUAL REALITY? Yeah well turns out all you can play are underdeveloped teleporting simulators.

It sucks cuz there are no good games. Period. Robot Recall, Echo Arena, Eve Valkyrie, etc. are trash next to real AAA titles. Fix that and I might turn this thing on again.

At least the modern attempts actually do what they said they would do, you can't even play punch out on the powerglove and they dropped it entirely not even a year after it came out.

>market technology for normies that require a beefy fucking custom system
>normies are notorious for having prebuilt shit computers from apple or dell

You do realize that obnoxious cunty kids 100 years from now will be saying exactly same thing about todays games right?
>Lol, they used play games by looking small gay box thing? What a joke, thank the god of science we have the Matrix tier neural interface for gaming today"

>Yeah, maybe if it didn't cost the same as a new car, then we would buy it you fucking jew
700€? A new car?
What the fuck NEET?

I'm a NEET too but I don't think 700€ is some magical new car cost that you can never afford, took me three months of putting aside a portion of my NEETbux to buy one.

The VR meme needs to die. It costs more than a PS4 to buy the VR kit on there.

Everyone who is actively buying VR now is funding the next, better version of VR that will come out in the next 2-3 years.

You are all essentially wearing Consumer friendly Dev kits on your head. The form factor will get smaller, it will become more efficient and it will become more economic.

The next iteration will be smooth sailing, but the one after that will completely normalise the industry by becoming the next standardised set of peripherals for use in gaming hence forth.

It pisses me off so much that i was born too early and will die just when the gaming and other consumer tech is finally getting startrek tier

VR is a dumb fucking gimmick. Just like motion gaming (Kinect, PS Eye) before it. Just like 3D TV before that. No one is buying it because dumb fucking gimmicks are for dumb fuck consumerists.

I watch all my anime in a movie fucking theater now thanks to vr.

Nobody does that.
They buy it with contracts and pay more than 1000 over 1-2 years.

VR lacks a killer app

IMHO VR is everything we hoped for when the input/simulation fits 'enough'. That is to say for cockpit and racing sims it already is is good enough sure a bit better resolution but you end up forgetting about it.

OTOH that teleportation bullshit is just a terrible workaround for not having an omnidirectional treadmill. Not to mention that none of the ones I have seen look any good except maybe cyberith and there is no way I am paying that much

Create a low budget model made only for watching videos and it would sell a lot. The porn industry would eat that shit up

>38 posters
>67 posts

What kind of faggot would spend thousands of dollars on stuff to sit home and watch cartoons and porn all day?

>Economics doesn't work this way, you bakas.
It does. The EU has been doing a mass scale version of it for twenty years :^)
still not seeing dividends, in fact things are tanking hard despite the shiny snarky people on the screens, but we hopeful nigga :^))))

Tip to the jew.

Sell for lower price.
Make money by selling its users data, like you always does

399~699$ for a VR headset
>costs a much as a new car
damn where do you live?

Nope. They still cost at least $3000 when you factor in the gamur PC.

VR people should be taking one for the team and selling it dirt cheap to get people interested in this new tech, I certainly won't be splashing out until its the same cost as a wall mart PC.

Even if it was cheap it would fail. It's a shit meme

Normans need something that works with their phones and lets them post in a virtual facebook.

Well not the consumers but maybe the devs, HIGHER RESOLUTION never made a game inherently good. What good games existed on the VirtualBoy? Nobody has ever figured out how to make VR not meh, how high resolution meh it is doesn't make a damn difference.

The original dataglove did pretty well for 80s 3d modeling and shit, Nintendo cut like 80% off the unit price to manufacture and made it shit to use. Replacing shit like fiber optic light sensors with incredibly high accuracy with shitty resistors and stuff. The powerglove is a cheap chink imitation of what still is a cool device.

>factor in the gamur PC
why would you need to do that? wouldn't most people who would want to buy a vr headset already have a gaymer pc?

Fail.

virtual boy is vr about as much as a view master is vr. it doesn't even strap to your face of have head tracking. it's more of just an awkward stereoscopic 3d delivery system.

I will wait until I get 1440p on both eyes. Gen 1 just isn't worth it.

I had a virtual boy when I was a kid. It was actually pretty cool for the price it was after it failed. I think I got it for my birthday for 80 and had a good time with mario tennis.

>people actually remain in thread and engage in discussion instead of doing one shitpost and leaving
OH WOW IT'S ALMOST LIKE THIS IS A DISCUSSION BOARD

Fallout and fasrohda the dragon sex simulator are coming out in november.

Easy peasy.

Require all FB fags to buy a Oculus or they can no longer have an account.

1600 = $180
1080 = $450
3200 16gb rams = $190
Mobo = $80
Psu = $60
Case = $50

Play any vr game for less than $1200

>$3000 when you factor in the gamur PC.
Jesus fuck, go back to Sup Forums with your bullshit price that you came out from PC vs console thread.
I knew all these fuckers got no brain even when they tried to came out with a shitpost.

You're joking right? You pretty much described the life of most people on Sup Forums.

Throw in the headset and you are up to $2000. Throw in the extra $200/month in rent for a second bedroom for a empty room vr space and you are at $3000.

>hardware that is inherently tied to graphics rendering
>graphics rendering hardware improves on a yearly basis

seems a bit cost prohibitive for someone to get it as a toy

I think the main problem with VR is we literally don't have the tech for it yet.

We need a 4K (total from both eyes) OLED display constant 120 FPS, very very little input lag (like 1ms), and a 20 TFLOP GPU.

The only way a 20 TFLOP GPU with 32GB of vRAM could exist is if a vega 64 was OC'd to 2.5 GHz and god knows how many KW that would use.

So yeah, the tech simply isn't there.

source?

you forgot to factor in the cost of electricity, internet connection, food etc.

Is there a bra under there? I don't get it.

TOO EXPENSIVE.
There is that chink 4K VR which is good alternative but this one is only 60Hz.
The display looks better than the Vive and Oculus but 60Hz only is a deal breaker.
Cheap VR when?

So, google cardboard with a minicomputer included, nice. I think that's the only way to make vr really break through the population: nerds making games and waifu simulators and sharing them with other people. As long as vr seems not worth buying to normalfags, it is going to fumble again and again. So you increase the quality (and transform it in a valuable luxury) or decrease the price (which offers minimal quality but a better spread).

I was all hyped for it. Had the cash was going to build a new pc and everything for it. Then that hook nosed fuck got his claws on it. It could have been so good too

...

You'd have to be out of your mind to buy from a literal Jew when alternatives exists.
