Don't get Grados. They're literally tuned for old people with high frequency hearing loss. The treble is deafening. They also make your ears sore after a while like any on-ear headphones.

Onboard sounds and portables/phones vary, but short answer is probably not. Try them first without a DAC/amp. If they're loud enough and not audibly hissy/noisy, you don't need a DAC/amp.
