Is Information Security the new thing to major in now a days?
I know that the CS meme is good to shoot you into the upper levels of the middle class, but how far do you think you can make it with the IS alternative?
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics CS will be growing by 11% while IS will grow by 19%.
Its a very competitive industry user. You need to legit in critical times be a white-hat hacker and outdo the attempts to crack into your company's systems.
If this sounds dope to you then try your best to learn all you can and have the passion to pull 18 hour days at times. Adderall helps.
If you just want a job the best thing is Nursing, or Physical Therapy. I just checked Indeed.com and theres 90000 Nursing jobs which is fucking nuts. PT has a growth rate of 34%.
Still infosec is pretty manly and nursing isn't.

Yes, become the metasploit monkey that you think is the upper echelons of netsec. There's no scam here, a "networking/cyber/information security" "degree" will certainly propel you into a guaranteed job, and add a dash of certs to pump up that resume like the cage-raised american chickens. Forget about experience, that's for blue collar nobodies. Just like it is in CS.
On another page, does anyone know of any places besides #Elite? It is so very lonely.

>studying a field that changes every day in uni to learn tools and techniques 3 years old.
You must be autistic
>tfw you still will get a job but you'll be outclasses by all your peers that have been in the field rather than a useless institute.
Jace Flores
sorry, I'm not a dirty NEET like you, and actually wanna do shit with my life in a field i've always been interested in.
Liam Morales
this you will probably burn out after a while after trying to keep up to date for so long
Adam Ortiz
Haha. Get a load of this everyone. The hubris of underage knows no bounds
Kayden Clark
I'm 18, actually. And based on your typing alone you actually sound like the most insufferable cunt ever. You have this "higher than thou" attitude. Anyways, good luck with whatever it is that you're doing.
Carter Moore
Making bank as a "security consultant." It's the same on Wall Street and any high-stress high-payout quick professions: no one's gonna hold your hand and let you suckle on their teet like mommy. Underaged and zero-experience, you're gonna get the truth the first time around from most people, then they're gonna stop trying when they realize you're a lost cause. Don't forget it, "kid."

>If you just want a job the best thing is Nursing, or Physical Therapy >spending you life doing disgusting things and seeing depressing shit daily
Austin Torres
Hey faggot, I'm 30 years old and actually do this for a living. Also I don't like you and I hope you fail in life.
Wyatt Davis
Majoring in infosec is a waste of time , finish a bachelor's and finish the certs. Don't waste your time with anything further. Also keep in mind there's plenty of idiots in security you can get a job and survive but the moment people realize you can't hold your own your career is done. Infosec is pretty tight community wise, the top dogs know each other.
Just some tips from someone in infosec, interpret this how you like.
David Gutierrez
From how you react to comments I can clearly tell you you won't make it or you'll become a codemonkey
Jackson Williams
What sub-field of information security has the best job security?
I don't think being a vuln scanning monkey is a good career path
Zachary Long
holy shit what's with all these fucking redditors lately can you just fuck off straight to wherever you came from
Cooper Roberts
You can't be a competent security consultant without being competent in computer systems. Training to become a security specialist directly is like training to become a surgeon without training to become a doctor first.
Cooper White
>competent in computer systems what does this entail? what kinds of topics are covered under "computer systems"?
Stuff like OS theory and networking?
Jack Rodriguez
cissp holders are clueless
Lucas Lewis
Literally public sector garbage ticket. Only subordinate shitskins will fall for this
Connor Lopez
Well those things should be default knowledge for anything more than helpdesk works. The reality is competence requires experience deploying and running computer systems. This is the real differentiator between a product-pushing "architect" or "consultant" and someone you want on the ground when shit goes bad.
