literally all it's good for :%)

reddit xd :)

you have to go back

YEAR OF THE LINUX DESKTOP NOW

Lol why use a full desktop version would have been cheaper to have a pi hooked to it.

Ubuntu is the pickle rick of operating systems

UBUNTU RIIIIIIIIICK

lincucks BTFO!!

>guys look linux can open and display an image

I helped a guy working the counter at my local gas station restart X on the register machine one time, it was running fedora. This was in like 2009.

a live linux distro + teamviewer on a usb stick, on dumsper dive hardware is perfect for digital signage

t. have done it many times... also fun fact windows hdmi protection gimps out alot of hdmi -> rf transmitter boxes used to tx over coax while linux just worked

cool

why would you use Fedora for a PoS machine though. I'd have thought you'd use something like CentOS where you can set it up and then not have to fuck with it for five years

cool

cool

I used to work for a payment processor ages ago, and you wouldn't believe the absurd bullshit people run their point of sales on.
The number of windows 2000 and Windows ME systems I had to set up was fucking horrifying

No idea, I guess that's what the IT guy who set it up decided to use. I've seen Fedora on a few retail machines since, even saw Arch on one one time.

yo wtf

I imagine they just used a spare old computer they had lying around. Even cheaper. Unless you want to go splitting hairs about power usage.

because the 40 yr old IT guy has about 400 unused old/replaced desktops sitting in a closet.

I think it was only last year that an airport in France had to be shut down for a day because some critical piece of air-traffic control was running on an old Windows 3.11 machine that blew its brains out. And I think I read somewhere that a ton of ATMs are running NT 4 to this day.

harddrive failure

>WOW! HOW CAN Sup Forums COMPETE WITH THAT!

I dress up as a girl and use Linux.

I'm aware of old OSes running on mission critical things but, fucking 3.1?

cool

wow they have ubuntu at my wife's daughter's school!

A lot of mission critical systems have never been updated because they're mission critical.

Huh, it actually makes perfect sense when you put it like that.

cool

cool

I like how you referred to the poster as "reddit" ^_^

How did you find this post in the first place..?

PoS software for PoS hardware, duh

Half my school computers used to run Ubuntu, that's pretty common

VOID LINUX

A trap running Linux on a Macbook. I have the sudden urge to grab a rock.
