>For monitors, try to include information like response time, refresh rate, resolution, and size

CPUs:
Intel still uses shitty TIM on its new CPU if you are overclocking consider delidding. Only Z370 boards are available right now so non-k 8th gen cpus are rather expensive to build with right now.
>G4560/G4600/i3 8100/R3 1200/1300x - Budget builds
>R5 1600 / i5 8400 - Great gaming or multithreaded use CPUs
>R7 1700 - Best value for multithread performance right now. 1700x and 1800x is a waste of money if you are not afraid of overclocking.
>i7 8700k - housefire dispenser, ghost-launched so won't be available until a few months
>Threadripper/Used Xeons: Heavy Multi-Tasking / VM Work / Rendering

RAM:
>Check your Mobo's QVL before buying RAM or look for user reports
>Ryzen CPUs benefit a lot from high speed RAM; 3000-3200 MHz is ideal

GPUs:
Crypto-Currency miners have driven GPU prices up (particularly Radeon)

Don't forget Intel lies and reviewers incompetency on Coffee Lake.

youtube.com/watch?v=O98qP-FsIWo

Fuck off, nobody cares and it's not true.

New build time, thinking it's time to try Windows 10. How do I get it nowadays, and how do I make it not cancerous spyware?

t. Brian

How much am I looking at spending on just the monitor if I want to get a 3840p@60hz or a 1440p@144hz? Are they all pretty decent color nowadays? I have 6 year old only decent TN panels that I took the time to kinda calibrate.

>motherboard puts auto overclocking feature on by default to inflate scores
How is that Intel's or the reviewer's faults? Sure they should have checked the clockspeeds while benchmarking but Gamers Nexus and JayZ both posted a video about the MCE before the AdoredTV video came out, and then he starts screaming shill like an autistic manchild even though the reviewers were the ones who came forward almost immediately after they noticed something wrong, If anything the whole mess is Asus' fault, do people realize they're known for this sort of thing? Asus have been enabling higher clocks by default on their boards for over a decade now.

You're really that picky, but you don't know/aren't following? You're like some offspring byproduct of an edgelord and hipster.

It could be an Asus engineer mistake.....seems fucking fishy though that it happens when Intel release their new wizzbang CPU though.

I was gonna correct you, but... Yeah, that's pretty spot on. I don't have a huge boner for monitors that I'd need to follow them, I just need a display for my computer, but when I got one, it worked well but looked like shit, so I Googled it to see how to fix it, and fell down the rabbit hole. It's not print quality calibration, but I think anyone who did have a good eye wouldn't hate using it.

I doubt it's a mistake, again Asus always do this, it's only attracted so much attention this time since the boost is so high. Usually mobos only self-overclock like 100-200MHz, Coffee Lake is an ancient uarch at this point so Intel and mobo manufacturers were way more aggressive with turbo clocks and all core max clocks. Gigabyte's was off by default though, I think Asus is the only one confirmed to have it on at first boot.

If my estimated power draw is about 430W and I have a 500W PSU, would it be pushing it a bit too close?
I've got a Bronze rated PSU if it matters, since I forgot to mention it before,

>media creation tool
>pick what you want
>make it bootable usb drive
>save as iso
>if it asks for a key use a generic one or some shit
>install
>use kmspico to crack it

Do you have another pc or laptop? If so, make a bootable usb

As someone with a 750 Ti - is it worth getting a 660 Ti and 6 fans (5 for the case, 1 for the CPU cooler), all for $100 USD?
The 660 Ti comes to about $65, and the 6 fans for the other $35.
The 660 Ti is a better card and is cheaper with an extra gig of VRAM.

Why am I not surprised

>kmspico
The .com or the .info when I Google it?
Yeah, I have the build it's replacing. What's the best way to activate it? Is Enterprise still the best way to disable the spyware?

Do you have at least 2 fans in your case now? Yes? You don't need more fans. Save your $100, since you're a poor fuck, and try to get more of the $100 and buy something actually useful.

nobody cares

660Ti suffers from the same issue as the 970 actually, the last .5GB of VRAM is slower than the rest. Granted the card is weak enough that it probably won't matter. But really you should save up for something newer, going from a 750Ti to a 660Ti isn't a big enough jump to justify it, especially since 660Ti will probably have worse power consumption.

...

You're not funny.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Is there anything I can improve on or shall I go ahead and pull the trigger.

...

Stop shitting up the thread with fake news.

I have 1 functioning fan in the case.
The 660 Ti would push my estimated system power draw to about 350W, and since I have a 600W Silver PSU, it's not too concerning.
I see what you mean, though looking at benchmarks, it's about 30-50% faster though, and I could sell my 750 Ti to go for something better.
I'm mainly wanting something with more than 2GB VRAM

>fake news

>Decaffeinated

holy shit

here made it better

CPU cooler?
Also get an EVGA PSU that costs reasonably, that shit looks expensive.

Guys someone is selling me 2 used hard drive: 1 is a 750gb hard drive sata-2 and 16mb cache 19 hours used according to hd sentinel. The other is a 500GB 16mb cache sata-3 9k hours used

Thanks for the info.

Thanks user that I suck.
So which of the two should I purchase? For my main temporary drive.

Depends on the price
I'd offer $20 for the 750GB, but that's just me. USD.

is it better to get 2 SSDs (one 250, another 500) or 1 SSD and 1 HDD (one 250, another 2 Gigs)

Depends on what RAID solution you'll be using. Using a HDD at all though once you've been living with an SSD for a substantial amount of time is near unbearable, at least in my opinion. Any time I have to troubleshoot a family member or friends PC that isn't using solid state storage I want to kill myself.

>Depends on what RAID solution you'll be using
what if i say i'm not

are you planning to ever run programs on the HDD or is it just for storing your presumably massive porn collection?

>Bought two terabyte harddrive and 250 gb ssd
>have no fucking clue what I'm going to put on the hardrive.

Two terabytes. Two fucking terabytes. I'm pretty sure literally every download I've ever made in my life doesn't come close to two terabytes.

My old video card shat itself.
Old mate is offering to sell me his old GTX670 for $85 (AUD) and will use it for about a week.
Going to the bank now to put money in, and going to order a new GTX1080, which should arrive late next week.
Is a 670 worth it for that price? Will resell it after for less, so is it still a decent card?

>his porn collection isn't already 1.8 TB
git gud
some programs that might help you stop being such a casul are danboorudownloader, tumblthree and pixivutil

i'll be putting in Steam games, Adobe files and some porn

i could play anything at 1080p with enough details turned down on a 3770K & 670 though if its only a week consider igpu and try some graphically undemanding games i recommend factorio

I'm on Ryzen, so no IGP.
Cheers for the input though, user.

I need a decent priced x370 mobo for my R7 1700 that doesn't suck balls. I don't want a travesty that originally was a intel mobo. Pls help

He makes a few interesting points, but "discounting every i5 8400 review" is taking it too far.

I guess we will have to figure out if the H and B chipset mobos have good turbo boost settings.. i.e., the same as the ones seen in Z series mobos.

Also the i5 8400s that are produced later in the cycle will have way better chances at hitting that six core 3.8GHz turbo (better power/thermals).

1440p 144Hz VA panel is about 600USD

660Ti isn't worth it

>it's about 30-50% faster though
That may be best case scenario, but 30% of crap is still crap.

I have 8TB in 2x 2TB and 4TB and I have about ~6TB used

might bump your load times down to have a second SSD especially with adobe projects
realistically it makes more sense to buy another HDD to mirror the first and avoid potential data loss

Will 3600 memory overclock higher than 3200 memory? Like, if I go buy 32GB of Corsair Whateverthefuck 3600MHz RAM, is it more likely to get to 4000MHz than 32GB of Corsair Whateverthefuck 3200MHz RAM?

>realistically it makes more sense to buy another HDD to mirror the first and avoid potential data loss
i don't think that should be a problem for me, my father has a spare external 1TB

>backing up your porn on dad's external HDD

thank u frend just wanted to update, i managed to overclock my CPU to 4Ghz and ordered 2x4gb ddr3 ram, I even managed to find a copy of the exact same ram i already have discounted.

So I'll have

GTX 1070
i5 4670k @ 4Ghz
16GB DDR3 1600Mhz
1080p 144hz Monitor

Feeling pretty comfy desu, gonna try to stick with this for as long as i can before upgrading my motherboard / CPU.

>had to give in and get i7-7700K delid

Last time I deal with an Intel chip.

mobo can deliver enough juice to cpu but why high freq ram in an intel build??

>why high freq ram in an intel build?
I fell for the 'any RAM is gud enuf' meme last time I built a system with DDR3 and it's not so great these days, seems more games care about RAM speeds now. I'd rather spend the extra 20% on another 600MHz if it'll only help 5-10% or so.

should i get a gtx 1060 6gb or a rx 580 4gb for $20 cheaper?

The 580. It'll use more power but it's cheaper and faster.

Sweet system. What games are you playing right now?

i can get a 580 8gb too for $10 more than a 1060, is that worth it?

Here's a graph of about 10 benchmarks averaged out between the cards, you decide if the price of two cups of coffee is worth another 5% or not to you. Also bear in mind power consumption and noise differences.

the 4GB and 8GB models perform identically. It's not like with nvidia's 3gb 1060 and the 6gb 1060. The 4 and 8GB RX 580's perform identically. The real question then becomes "Do you need more than 4 GB of vram?"

That's up to you and depends on the games you play. Either way, a 580 is faster than a 1060.

sick dude, thanks. im an enept and dont know where to look.

Yeah it goes for 20 bucks. The 750GB sata-2 one. I might put my OS there until I buy an ssd.

Do I need to pay close attention to what RAM I pick when buying a 8600K compatible motherboard or nah? Just wondering because Ryzen has this and dunno if it goes for Intel.

less so for intel. still it never hurts to buy QVL ram,if only to find out which ram is actually samsung(which is good) or hynix(which is shit tier)

>cheapest 16GB DDR4 3200 isnt on the QVL for the board I want to use
reeee

Ok, I tried reconnecting the fan and cooler pins with the included "low noise cable" and now it's no longer spinning up and down and making turbine sounds, but the sound is still noticeable and not giving me those low temps everyone says... People saying 30-40C on idle and 60C under load but I'm getting 60C idle and 75C under load... Did I even install it correctly? I had to remove the stock case fan, am I supposed to put it back on somewhere? I saw some pics of similar coolers where the radiator seems to be sandwiched between two fans. I have very little experience with this. Poorly drawn pic related

The 3GB 1060 is to the 6GB 1060 as the 4GB 570 is to the 4GB 580, basically. So far the 3GB of VRAM on the cut down 1060 hasn't hampered it, but texture options are limited.

tbH the only reason i ask this is because there's a sale on the 850 EVO 500GB SSD

Thanks
I just finished Divinity: Original Sin 2 (good game, highly recommend)
Right now I'm playing Shadow of Mordor since I never got around to it, (got the GOTY edition for $5 dollars in a sale), probably gonna pirate Shadow of War if someone manages to crack it since i cba to spend $60 for base game, $40 for """DLC""" and then have them design the game around loot crates on top of that.

This is what the manual has to say about the final installation but I keep seeing the bloody radiator in between two fans so

already cracked. denuvo is dead

Holy fug you're right, i guess i know what i'm playing after i finish the first game.

feeling even more comfy now

>Did I even install it correctly
Probably, what CPU is it? The temperatures people give for shit are usually wildly variable. For a CPU, '100% load' doesn't mean it's as hot as it'll get, different types of load can cause higher temperatures. Also, CPU temps increase linearly ambient temperatures, you'd literally get 25C lower CPU temps benchmarking in Canada compared to Qatar.

>I had to remove the stock case fan, am I supposed to put it back on somewhere?
Unless it's retarded, the radiator will have holes on each side for fans. If you want to use two fans (called push pull), you hold the case fan in place and run one of those long radiator screws through the fan and into the back of the radiator. Then simply screw your other fan into the front of the radiator like normal.

My advice is to wait a while to play the next game in the series. I'm almost always disappointed with the next game if I head right to it. Happened with Mass Effect 2 and Dead Space 2 among others

The constant frame drops under heavy load are starting to piss me off. I don't know if it's because there's something else wrong with the hardware or people saying "GTX1070 is good for newer games in 1080p" managed to trick me
System is pic related, dunno how accurate those temp readings are since SpeedFan says the CPU is at 60C.
The radiator does indeed have holes on both sides, and call me retarded but how would the fans go in such case? As in, where do they end up facing? Wouldn't this just make the noise issue worse?

>The constant frame drops under heavy load are starting to piss me off
Install MSI Afterburner and see what's limiting it. A 1070 is pretty over the top for 1080p, my guess is you might be either CPU limited or are expecting too much. You can go into the settings and enable it to show CPU core usage in an overlay, watch that when your framerate drops.

Also holy shit son, single-channel RAM at 1333MHz? Why didn't you get an adult to help you build your system?

>The radiator does indeed have holes on both sides, and call me retarded but how would the fans go in such case? As in, where do they end up facing?

Assuming you were looking into your case from it's left door side:

Metal of case -> Fan 1 -> Radiator -> Fan 2

>wouldn't this just make the noise issue worse?
No, two fans running at 600RPM for example is quieter than one fan running at 900RPM, and will get the same temps.

You probably want the worse of the two fans (likely your case fan, not the one the cooler came with) to be the one facing into the case. You want both fans blowing air out of the case.

Well Mass Effect 2 was dumbed down to shit compared to the first one because they wanted to sell it to console players.
Same happened with Dragon Age.

>'I-ITS A PAPER LAUNCH!!'
>'YOU WONT GET ONE TIL NEXT YEAR'

Will Ryzen fanboys ever recover from this one? My guess is no, but I know they can be resilient.

Alright, I'll give those things a try and see what's up, thank you.
On the RAM thing, do you think it could be a factor on the framerate issues? Most people on Youtube seem to agree that it's not a huge factor

5 rupees for you, Pajeet. Don't spend them all at once :^)

>Mr Bigdick Ryzenfanboysbtfo

Depends on the game. In some scenarios it can make no difference, in others it could mean FPS takes a pretty significant hit, dual-channel is twice as fast after all. Luckily it's a cheap issue to rectify, all you need is another DIMM of RAM.

So where is it

Shit is at a depot according to the tracking, will probably be out for delivery in two hours.

Use Vsync for your 60Hz monitors and play at High instead of Ultra. No visual improvement but a huge framerate hit

Also it looks like your CPU might be throttling if it's near 80C

I'm planning on building a home server. Should i use:

- Old PC with Q6600 with 300W PSU.
- Dedicated solution like QNAP or some other shit.
- NUC.
- Build something cheap with G4560 for example?

Suggestions?

Over here laughing with a 4ghz 1700 with a gtx 1080. Lmao
>Wew Lad
>Coffee Lake

I managed to snag a 6850k + mobo at a very reasonable price.

I have it at 4.3 GHz with an adaptive Vcore of 1.265 V in the BIOS (actual measured max of about 1.295 V under load). Is this a safe voltage for 24/7 use for Broadwell-E? I'd like this chip to last at least 5 years.

>1700

*breathes*

AAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHA

Planning on what you want to do with it, but I would scrap the Q6600 pc because of heat and energy usage.
NAS are usually good solutions if you want a shared storage and backups. But if you want more server functions from a full server OS you could manage with a NUC.

But whatever, it all depends on what you want from a home server.

>implying anyone needs more than 261 fps

>500fps
jesus, why? the human eye can not see any more than 42 fps.

>strategically ignoring the yellow bars to try and bait me

Not this time.

My only M.2 screw fell down into the power supply.
