Best laptop?

What's the current best laptop on the market?
I'm interested in battery life, portability, and power.

Prefer not mac.

Price is not a factor, my company is paying for it

Fuck off, Dell shill.

I just googled "laptop" and picked a random image bro

xps15 boi

Dell XPS, Thinkpad T470(p/s) both seem pretty noice

Any way to get these without (((Windows 10)))?

>any way to get a linux laptop
>any way to get a windows 7 laptop

Dell sells the XPS with Ubuntu.

Yes, how to get windows 7 laptop?

OP, if you want Linux, go with a ThinkPad. the t470's are great.

> Best Laptop
> Not a Mac
Pick One.

where?

Search for xps developer edition.

Is this OK?

Ah yes, I see. If I get one of those though, I'll probably just dual boot

How much more battery does 4K display eat up compared to 1080p?

Latitude 7380

I don't know how much 1080p gets but my 4k xps 15 gets at least 6 hours I think. Maybe more, depends on what I'm doing.

Perfect.
What kind of things will you be doing on that laptop?

I never once expected to say this but LG Gram.

Yes I own a thinkpad, t450s. I'm jelly AF about the Gram, found out about it when researching a new laptop for my gf. Really good build. Make sure to look for the 2017 model.

get a laptop without windows =/= get a laptop with linux

>Not a mac
fukkin easy

But you are asking for the best laptop because you know people will mention Dell.

if you can't install linux yourself you probably shouldn't use it.

The thinkpad P-series

Asus makes best laptops.

Trackpad is great and i run Linux/win10 with no problem.Great laptop

Scientific computing, checking email, porn

i just ordered this nice deal

If you don't mind the dual core. Anything you want to do besides browsing Sup Forums, it'll throttle like hell.

i have the dell xps 15 and its been giving me non-stop problems since i got it in april.
>multiple blue screens of death every month,
>random crashes
>sometimes refuses to boot up unless i press the power button, close the lid, re-open the lid and then press the power button AGAIN.
>one time i dropped a fucking FIDGET SPINNER on the keyboard and the entire computer crashed and acted like i had no hardrive installed until i rebooted the computer and everything went back to normal.

a fucking fidget spinner almost brought this £2000 piece of crap to its knees

Well, the Asus Zephyrus is pretty cool, pretty shit for actual work imo. Idk about battery life.

Honestly, just get a thinner gaymen laptop and it'll preform well. Battery life will be meh, but that's what you get.

Best I've used so far is the XPS 15 9560 with the new 97W/hr battery. Haven't used the big battery, but I plan on upgrading to it later. With the normal 56w/hr battery, I get like 4 hours SOT and standby up to a few days.

Okay, I'm pretty sure this is a paid shill. I have the XPS 15 and none of this actually happens.

If you get something like this, what keeps you from calling Dell and making them replace it? Instead you decide to shitpost on a Malaysian shit painting board? Doesn't make sense.

It depends on the usage.

>Workstation Laptops heavy usage, video editing, image editing.
Lenovo P Series.

>General use
Personal Preference I'd wager is the way to go here.

>Using Lenovo computers
>Comes with rootkit free of charge
Enjoy your botnet.

Not OP but is poor mans Thinkpad aka reThink worth buying?
Prices are solid and hardware doesnt seem too outdated for a budget lap.
One that caught my attention is x250
Opinions?

> reThink
Wut.

>unlimited budget
>not getting backlit keyboard

For me the backlit keys have been invaluable so that when you're in shitty lighting you at least have some cues.

>"I can type with my eyes closed"

t. person with 75 WPM talking to a 110WPM masterrace

Fuck off shill

"Recycled" thinkpads, aka used or returned ones, refurbished, whatever you want to call it, usually came with some sort od scratch and then returned to lenovo.
So they test it and resell for cheaper price

Nice.

I have an XPS and, honestly, the Gram has great specs for the price. Likely better value than the XPS and just as aesthetic.

We're slowly entering an age where your options are no longer
>aesthetic and sleek macbook you use to value-signal
or
>ugly, chunky laptop you use because you're poor

The day a comfy equivalent to macOS comes, Apple will be finished in terms of selling to anybody with a fucking brain (if that day hasn't already come),

windows can still be made quite comfy

michaelsoft seriously needs to sort out their fucked up design language and consistency issues though

I can spend 1k-1.5k yurobucks for a laptop with a 1080p ips screen.
I will use it for browsing (shitposting), animu, porn and maybe I will need it for uni (mechanical engineering, next year).

I have seen mentioned xps13, lg gram, thinkpad carbon something something, vaio s etc. etc.
So what do you recommend Sup Forums?

Is it even noticeable? Seems to me like it is a meme

i'm not a fucking shill these are literally my experiences. I forgot to mention that my headphone jack also stopped working for no reason. I'm not going to get it replaced because i am in university and i cant afford to go more than one day without a laptop. Pic is from two days ago. I can send you a video of the headphone jack not working if you want.

pic is from last month

paying 1,4K for that piece of shit

and you losers say macs are overpriced

delusional cunts heh

I own the laptop in the pic, and its great. Its the Dell XPS 15 9550 (or 9560). I have the fully specced non 4k and it works great.

Looks like windows problems. I have that laptop and it works perfectly out of the box with Debian.

Yes. It even contaminates audio lines with the noise.

xps 13 owner here with debian
comfy as fuck here also

Hows the scaling on linux?
Is it any good yet?

A friend of my father wnted to purchase a new laptop. I told him linux, he said windows.
So windows 10.
It was new
never used
ever
It had to reboot and reinstall itself 3 times before it stayed stable.
I lose A FUCKING DAY on it.

Windows : when there is not toilet paper left.

Im looking at the: Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 for $550 it has:
>256 GB SSD
>Open slot for extra HDD
>i5 7200U
>8GB RAM w/ open slot for another stick
>Can replace screen for IPS 1080p

Cons:
>No backlit kb
>No removable battery
>TN panel

Is it worth, or should I still just get a T420/T430

>What's the current best laptop on the market?

Thinkpad P51

no need to look further

I'll wait for full compatibility with a Linux distro, but until then the 2015 Chromebook Pixel is the best.

Costs more than the equivalent MacBook kek

I've had a Dell Latitude e7470 for about a month now and I'm loving it so far. At first I was worried about getting a dual core machine (i7-6600U) in 2017, but it's more than enough (probably due to hyperthreading). If you really want a quad though, look at the 5000 series latitudes. Not sure if the 5000s have the same build quality though, which is top fucking notch on the 7000s. I also got 16gb, but I'd say 8 would be plenty and would probably give you better battery life than I'm currently getting, which is anywhere between 8-12 hours running Visual Studio, Chromium, and VirtualBox for things I can't do with the WSL Bash terminal.

My work gave me pic related, it's actually pretty nice. Don't get the cheaper latitudes though, they have shit screens and 1 ram slot

Are there ANY non-shit sub $1000 GTX 1050 laptops out there?

only apply top windows 10 users who all accept spyware anyway. The lenovo shit only applies to those who accept it, not to linux users or people who want privacy

>For me the backlit keys have been invaluable so that when you're in shitty lighting you at least have some cues.

>what is the dots on the 'f' and 'j' keys for

I ordered an XPS 15 with Windows on it, because only XPS 13s were available directly at Dell with Ubuntu pre-installed, and I prefer my RAM to be removable, after bad experiences with broken RAM in Dell machines in the past at the two year mark.

Installing Linux is possible, but you have to jump through some hoops to disable secure boot - otherwise, the SSD won't even show up in the installer. Dual booting is not an issue at all - works great through GRUB.

OOTB hardware compatibility is awesome. If you want do use a very freedom-focused distro (e.g. Debian), you'll need removable media with a non-free Atheros firmware blob to get wifi working during the install. Due to lack of a Thunderbolt -> RJ45 dongle, I couldn't verify if this is an issue if Ethernet connectivity is available.

Generally, I'm very satisfied with hardware, build quality, and the display is just fucking gorgeous. The latter was my primary reason not to buy a Thinkpad this time. Wouldn't go below XPS though. Had horrible experiences with Vostro and Latitude work devices before.

>ctrl+f "librem"
>no results
Come on, Sup Forums.

What's the fidget spinner story?

>one time i dropped a fucking FIDGET SPINNER on the keyboard and the entire computer crashed and acted like i had no hardrive installed until i rebooted the computer and everything went back to normal.
HE JUST TOLD YOU THE STORY

2015 Pixel is so nice

Just got the Acer aspire 5 four like 500 or so I forget. 2gb dedicated gpu, ok ish processor and 8gb ddr4 ram. 6-8 hrs battery life too. I think I did gud

t. 75 WPMer

t. poorfag mactoddler

thinkpad t420 or x61

/thread you're welcome, kiddo.

My macbook air is pretty sweet, just get iterm2 and its basiclly linux, but looks 100 times nicer and just works.

>What's the current best laptop on the market?
>Prefer not mac.

why bother repeating yourself?

Games can be problematic
Gtk3 scaling is perfect
Gtk2/qt scaling is useable but leaves a lot to be desired
Good scaling is the only reason im still sticking with gnome

MBP

With the latest thunderbolt you can run an eGPU and have desktop-class gaming/gpu power on it too.

partly it is a personall choice (I prefer thinkpad design and durability)

partly it is about the display, it is your window to the other realits you are looking at.. and at the moment there is a new dawn upon us: OLED notebooks

yes I praise them religiously, since they will blow your mind...

So mentally handicapped homosexual "people" understand.

works on my machine

latitude 7380

I dunno, but I got the 9560 w/ 4K + touchscreen and it's amazing so far

This. Also better to buy from LG than from (((((DELL))))), another company founded by an anti-white LEFTIST JEW.

Sager NP7870 vs Acer Predator Helios 300?

Looking for 16 gb ram, i7, gtx 1060 or better. Need it for UE 4 development, web development, and some gaming

Aero 15, is pretty much xps 15 but with a better gpu. Get it from here and get liquid metal option
