Ryzen threadripper comes out and its apparently a big deal

>ryzen threadripper comes out and its apparently a big deal
>does 4.0ghz if you're lucky
>beaten by a fucking $300 7700K does 4.2ghz out of the box

Why are AMD such a shit?

Here's your pity reply.

I'll give you a pity reply too

Pity thread?

Then go buy Intel you fucking moron

$900 for 16 cores is actually pretty unreal.

An X299 RAID key (Raid 1 and 0 only) has been shipped to your house. (MSRP 299 USD).

Thanks again for correcting the record on behalf of Intel Corporation.

Why do you need more than two cores?

why do you need more than one core?

That's a good question.

why won't you hire some asians lock them in basement and force to do the math ?

Because there are usages beyond gayming.

amd is for poor clueless people

I'm not sure what you mean.

????

Exactly, stupid goyim need to shut the fuck up and buy celerons.

You fucking stupid assholes.

Yeah like shitposting on Sup Forums and watching anime.

This. It's just like Linux, the average AMD user is happy to spend 15 hours banging their keyboard troubleshooting issues. If they just bought a Intel CPU it would be smooth sailing.

Despite b8 thread: gaming is the main reason for prefering single-core performance, but interestingly this is going to start changing now that we have DX12 and Vulkan, and engine devs are no longer bound to sending all their Draw() calls from the vid context thread. Exciting times, and hopefully the big engines (unreal, etc) actually hop on this over the next few years. Could finally give games the CPU boost from MT they have needed since core2duo came out 11 years ago.

>this is going to start changing now that we have DX12 and Vulkan

Are you fucking serious?
Have you ever done an actually job that requires computing power or are you just playing video games?

Shouldn't you be out in gaza dying for Israel- I mean Intel, my fellow law-abiding christian cuckservative? g-d bless intel

Heavy rendering and compiling. You don't buy a threadripper for gaymes unless you are retarded and have too much money
If you only do that a Core 2 Duo will suffice for oyu.

If 90% of your render calcs and dispatching can be done from any arbitrary thread, yes, the equation of cores vs clock-speed changes. Not claiming to know how far, but we won't be stuck at current shit-tier 1-context threads slowing everything down.

There's also Adobeshit, don't forget how popular Premiere is and it scales like shit on multicore processors,

See

Triggered so many of these throttlecucks its great

t. Winblows user

I can't speak about premiere, i dev but i'm no artist. It wouldn't suprise me if there is no technical reason for premier to not parallelize well if their PDF format is anything to go by. Such a horrible file format...

People have been saying the same garbage since Bulldozer came out and look where we are. It's five years later and the performance differential between a 7700K and a 8700K (the exact same chip minus core count) is non-existent in the majority of cases in games, there's only a few titles where it makes any difference and the performance delta is 20% at most.

>Is poojeet even trying?

do you really expect companies that put out the same fucking game every year to adapt to new standards?

I care little about amd vs intel, i currently run both FWIW, i don't even know when bulldozer came out. All im saying is as of last year games can now (finally) utilise mutliple cores much more efficiently, and in the next few years we'll start seeing engines support it. Granted, it will take the biggest engines the longest to migrate, so i'd expect Unity and UE to take the longest to migrate to a new paradigm.

Case in point, the latest version of SDL just enabled some vulkan support.

>thinks clockspeed is still the primary metric

Holy shit, these DX12 performance gains are huge.

youtube.com/watch?v=Sc018BUJ44s

I'm not sure what you think you're showing but why would you expect benefit from dx12/vulcan on a game written for dx11 / opengl3.x/4.x?

Are you retarded or baiting? Of course the engine needs to be built/refactored with multithreading as a goal.

Real talk, what change would I see going from a second gen to current gen Intel? Been pretty happy so far.

surprisingly, not that much

True that. Noticably faster but not drastically so for most tasks. Probably less than the difference you would notice upgrading from a cpu bought in 1998 to one bought in 1999.

If I'm gonna spend $900 on a CPU, you can bet sure as shit it's gonna be an Intel.

My current rig is an AMD, only because I got an 8 core CPU for $175, 5 years ago.

I wanted to go with Intel, but my reasoning was going with a cheaper CPU and motherboard, and use the savings to buy a better graphics card.

Probably iron out some kinks that Ryzen has that can't be fix by simple microcode or bios updates.

Your stupid reasoning would've been valid during the godawful Bulldozer era. With Ryzen being the over-all more cost-effective option, you're just being a wasteful retard.

Intel's only competition around that price range is the 10 core 7900X though, and that's an absolute housefire that you need a $300 custom lopp to cool or you need to at least buy a $50 delidding kit and a $50 tube of liquid metal. AMD completely embarrassed Intel's high end this time around. Sure Threadripper had some launch issues, it's the first AMD HEDT platform since the Athlon 64 FX after all. But compared to Skylake-X Threadripper's issues seem quaint.

Basically check amazon best sellers list and see what sells better, i9-7900X or Threadripper 1950X.

Hint: look for 1950X in the 21-40 page, 7900X has slipped to 41-60.

>tfw 100 more dollarinos and you get Epyc 7401P, but it's STILL not available for peasants

How do you people continue swinging dicks day after day about such inconsequential shit?

For real, what applications benefit from 16 cores other than just "having a bunch of separate shit open and doing stuff at the same time"?

Thos actually don'T need it, beucase most programs use little CPU when opened.

Video encoding though!

Video encoding, cool. That makes sense actually, thanks.

I assumed it was retardos running desktop software on hardware made for data centers and shit

And decoding, once AV1 lands on youtube. (Well, hoping that it will actualyl be properly multi-threaded this time, unlike VP8 and VP9 livpshit.

Do not post this image in vain

There is no game written primarly for dx12 / vulkan yet.

Ashes of singularity for DX12
Doom for vulkan

What are you going to do with 1c/2t? No one needs more then 1c/1t!

Just buy porn mags like our grandfathers did. They needed no computers are were much more of true men.

What does anyone need transistors for? In my day vacuum tubes were plenty enough.

Yes go buy those porn magazines with 14 year olds in them like they used to sell.

...

I wish

Doom is a frankenstein engine with plenty of legacy shit
I might give you ashes, but I don't know enough about the engine

I kept going on about increasingly restrictive speech rules years ago, and now everything is being banned and shut down.

I warned everyone but nobody cared.

Nobody ever cares.

What are you implying, user? Our grandfathers were real men and not insecure pedos hiding away in dark rooms.
They liked real women like Lena Soderberg. With bush.

I mean I don't know about you but my grandfather married a 16 year old when he was 25 and my great grandfather married a 14 year old at 40.

a retard reply's
