do people actually use this linux subsystem thing?

No. Only tools do.

I do it so I can use irssi

Yes, it's the best thing to happen to Windows in decades. Native ELF binary compatibility makes many things a lot easier as Windows is sorely lacking in CLI tools, you don't have to rely on shoddy outdated ports or buggy emulators for these tools anymore.

works on my machine, all i care about

Does Xorg work?

The linux subsystem is cool, but you're so wrong that windows lacks CLI tools. The only thing windows lacks is text-parsing CLI tools - which doesnt matter in the windows ecosystem cause powershell is all object-based. Not going to debate which approach is better in theory, but for windows (eg, WMI, COM, registry, etc) powershell knocks it out of the park.

Yes but you can't replace Windows shell with it.

Not when i tried it during the beta, though at the time i read about people getting it going. No idea about now.

I'm too old for these. But here you go one last time.
