I'm in the market for a new phone too. I'm currently rocking a 2013 Nexus 5 and it has the dreaded Android lag. What's funny is, I have two of them in my household and they both have the same lag issue. Another thing I've noticed is that the wifi drops off randomly and it shows as it's connected but there's no activity. Been happening for a year now so I always resort to using LTE.
