New version of OS X or Windows?

Hey Sup Forums

I'm currently using my old macbook as my daily driver but i'm getting sick of OS X 10.7. I can't do anything because of how old this version is. So my question should I perhaps add some ram(2gb base config) and upgrade it to sth like 10.10(this model(4,1) can't go beyond Lion officially but it can be patched) or just install windows so I can finally get some modern software on here?

Install Gentoo

Try gentoo

Newer used ones are like $200.

Have you tried Gentoo?

what are you trying to do with it? Mine is even older than yours and it still does fine. 32-bit macbook with 2GB RAM and 10.6.8 still does fine. 4GB is the maximum yours supports. If you're thrashing, the only things you can do are lower ram usage or get an SSD.

>10.6.8 still does fine

Can you even watch video online with all the HTML5 stuff going on?

>macshit

Found your problem.

Sell it to some brain dead mactoddler for $300 and upgrade.

get windows 10

I think you'd have no problem with 10.11 or even 10.13.

Skip Yosemite for sure, though. It was terrible performance-wise.

Software compatibility is sparse with lion. I honestly don't know how you manage with snow leopard

What do you do with it?
I use 2011 and it’s been frustrating lately with lag and general slowness.

yeah. they discontinued firefox for 32-bit mac, but it's not nearly that outdated. and you can still build it yourself if you must. don't know about chrome and the rest. although it takes a lot of cpu when you get to 720p on web. it does 720p just fine with mplayer though. install noscript - you should anyway - but badly made javascript eats a lot of cpu.

general web browsing, shitposting, watched videos, played some older games, recorded and mixed some music, wrote a novel. Most of it isn't too intensive, but if you really need performance, I doubt you would be using such an old laptop. i haven't had any problems with lag. old software works fine on old hardware. If the system is unresponsive, you're probably thrashing or your hard drive is dying/badly fragmented.

Get a SSD and more RAM.

Thanks. I'll probably just sell it and get a new desktop. Never take it anywhere anyway.

What quality of video? Mine has trouble with 1080p.
I should probably back up and replace hard drive.

Love when people try to impersonate OP

Love when people try to pretend OP isn't OP.

any core 2 duo laptop is trash .. can't even play 720p smooth

but who's the real op?

mine has a 768p screen. no point to 1080p. i was mostly watching 720p anime.

you're at that point where it can't handle web video, but local playback is fine

Honestly, just fucking put Linux on it.

There's a thing called SFOTT that'll allow you to run a later version of OSX on Macs with 32-bit EFI. Of course it won't enable any hardware that isn't there but there are a bunch of features you might find useful.
