APL isn't a bad tracker on its own, it's irrelevant because RED is equally accessible. If RED wasn't established at around the same time as APL, APL would be far more active.

TV. No reason not to, plex makes streaming so easy and there's no loss in quality when using a proper device.
Or to change and become different from RED (e.g. easier economy, or whatever), so people will actually have a reason to use them both.

All plex apps expect ios/android are free, use those. Even android TV app is free. If you only have a chromecast then suck it up and buy the 5 dollar app.

Are you really that dense? Just the GPU on a gaming PC is burning through 200w, then add on the rest of the system. Plus it's noisy and pumps out heat. Which maybe OK if mommy and daddy are paying the bills and you are only allowed to have one PC but The rest of us will use devices tailored to needs: low-powered server that switched on 24/7 uses less energy than a gayming PC would in a week; a laptop for browsing and irc; pi or shield tv or similar that is silent for watching movies on; a desktop to gayme on.

The few dollars per month saved from that 2% CPU/GPU usage watching content isn't really worth going out and either putting together a small media center or buying one

Modern setups use so little power that running them 24/7 is often the most sensible choice if you aren't a data hoarder. I have a dedi server only because my plex server is often transcoding +4 streams which would kill my gaming performance.
If that wasn't the case, I would just run the media server from my PC and stream to shield TV. I should actually save electricity that way because then I wouldn't be running two computers at the same time every evening.
