I'm a """senior""" software developer at a large company. I've conducted interviews for many candidates and have approved hires after other people made arguments for hiring women and blax in order to "attract more diversity" to the company. 100% of these hires have been disastrous mistakes, and I've fortunately been able to get most of them fired, or at least make things uncomfortable enough for them to leave. They have been entirely insufficient as developers/QAs/business-side people. Not a single one met my standards.

So, are diversity hires a fucking meme, or have I just been really unlucky?

We hired a female """developer""" who had no experience on the basis of basically her having a vagina. It was a fucking nightmare. She couldn't handle criticism, no matter how constructive, at all. She freaked the fuck out and yelled at people weekly. She cried on a regular basis. Our team pairs 100% of the time, and no one wanted to work with her, not even the other female dev, who is legit, but was hired long ago.

My only experience with millennial women devs have been negative as fuck.

She was fucking awful. She couldn't even type properly. She typed with two fucking fingers. Hunt and peck. Not fucking joking. We use vim+tmux exclusively. It was a god damn nightmare letting her drive. She also understood nothing about software design or OOP principles or functional programming principles. She did things in the most ass-backwards way and would become incredibly defensive if you tried to give her guidance. It was so fucking awful.

The newly minted managers then prove that they have no fucking idea how to manage and negatively impact the work of everyone underneath them with their retarded ideas. Poomanager then goes and fills their team with more poos, somehow only hiring poos to fill any open positions. When you go for diversity hires, try to look for older, Eastern European women who grew up in former Soviet countries. Every one I've dealt with has been at least competent, and willing to spend time on work outside of work hours both on tasks from work, and on self improvement. Their work ethic is probably the part of Soviet Russia that I think we can all learn something from.

This thread is pure bait, but let me share my experience with an actual female diversity hire. She did things like invoking public methods in java using reflection, moreover she refused to fix her errors and also tried to take credit for my ideas and project her faults onto me.

I even tried sending my resume (with a different name) to an open position at the company I work at, didn't get a reply.

In my area there's a shortage of the entire spectrum. 1% unemployment and it's estimated that's all contractors switching jobs once their clients can't keep them on anymore due to their corporate rules.

Your company doesn't do so to help minorities or womenz. They do it as a part of a strategic business strategy. As such, their is no sympathy for this corrupt practice. Most programmers in the tech industry enjoy what they do, they are fascinated by the technology and they are driven to always improve and make the best possible product.

Most women have no real interest in programming, they want to get into the industry just as a status symbol. They blame men for the fact that they are not interested in technology and expect that they can be made equal to men just by being 'included' and not actually put in any real work or effort to learn. This is 'diversity' in a nutshell.

Minorities like african-americans have real setbacks in life that require them receiving special aid to be able to afford college and catch up on subjects that they may have failed early in life. So I dont have a problem with people who have real disadvantages in life getting special treatment, not privileged white girls who want 'power' given to them.

If I had to manage an unfireable literal dead weight, I'd go out of my way to lower morale until he left.
In hourly wage positions, you can do this easily by cutting their hours and responsibilities until they get frustrated and find another job.

I've met plenty of women and minorities who were competent. One of the best bosses I've ever had was a Syrian woman who wrote most of our monitoring scripts out of boredom. You can tell when they're just going to be a diversity hire, though, just from the interview. But then you get lectured by HR for not hiring them, blah blah bump diversity numbers, whatever.

One of the interesting things is that, in China, there isn't this big divide between men and women in terms of tech jobs. Sure, women more lean towards design and front end while men lean towards back end and ops, but walking through a company you'd never know who was working on what until you got to their screen. I don't know how it got to be this way, that women were unusual in computer science and tech, but I really wish it wasn't.

well, I would agree in the case of skills not being sufficient enough for the job (although it is the company's fault for recognizing this and still hiring), but if your job is going to suddenly require new skills, it only makes sense to have the company pay you to learn them (treat it as work)

Supply and demand doesn't mean you can pay people what you think they deserve. If you couldn't get qualified people for the amount of pay you are offering, then the people you want can demand more money than you are offering, and get it. That's how supply and demand works. You have two options: pay more or demand less.
