What's the difference between vscode and VS2017?

vscode is javashit atom clone

vs2017 isn't

Vscode is just a text editor for any language, as soon as you have the right add-on, while VS2017 is a .NET IDE

I likey very much!

Does it run well on linux?

I've been using it on Linux as my exclusive text editor for the past few months, it works great. The only downside is that it doesn't have auto updater on Linux so when there's a new release you have to manually download the new archive and replace the old installation.

VSCode can't run c# scripts for some fucking reason

Out of the box no, it's a text editor first, IDE second.

>c#
>SCRIPT
This triggers me

I wish vscode had better support for memekell. The best I've found, after trying everything from emacs to Intelli-j idea, is quite surprisingly Atom. I have to admit atom does have a really comfy UI and the theme I'm using is especially tweaked for memekell. I might even try using it as my daily driver.

VS2017 can be used with any language ...

*blocks your path*

It also adds telemetry to every language and has access to all of your code

>i saw old article once and its not even related with VScode

Isn't that like 40-50 gigs after install tho?

>atom clone
It is a fork of atom. Use the correct terminology or get out.
VSCODE is a glorified text editor.

>It is a fork of atom.

Atom is written in coffeescript.
VSCode is written in typescript.
That should be enough of a clue.

Filtered.

Did they fix that high cpu usage while idle?

This is botnet

>We get some of it by receiving usage data from software running on your device.

this ironically made me love keyboard again

>using web browser to edit text files
why would anyone do this?

It was fixed very quickly and it's not an issue with VSCode specifically but with how Chrome handles CSS animations.
Instead of updating the state of the blinking cursor every half a second it would do it 60 times per second.

Yeah it's 5gb but everyone has at least 1tb hard drive. 2017.

Atom is written in javascript.
VSCode is written in javascript.
I can't tell them apart.
What makes javascript better than javascript?

Typescript is statically typed, coffeescript is literally worse than javascript.

one l...a.......g........s..... trying to scan my entire SSD every time i type a character all so it can spoonfeed me the method i already knew i was going to type.

The other just werks,

modern tooling they cant/dont teach in CS undergrad

Im pretty sure its just a text editor.
