I love that they had to get rid of touch ID and put a giant ass notch in the screen to make this work.

How long before Samsung does the exact same thing? Same thing with the headphone jack. They start by laughing at Apple, then suddenly no headphone jack on their phones.

That's Google. The hierarchy of stealing ideas is Samsung/Motorola -> Apple/Xiaomi -> Google.

Biometrically speaking: how similar are the eyes of twins?

different, just like fingerprints.

Different.

So is the camera too low res to use eye data or what? Seems like an obvious solution.

Samsung does it.

It doesn't look for fine detail or do anything with your iris.

Samsung's iris scanner is a sham too

Niggers and gooks all look the same, they need to try this with white twins.

>twin niggers
>they are gay
When I thought there was no gay nigger

Wasn't there some sort of face unlocking already in samsung galaxy s2?

there are white twins in the video too.

Face unlock has been a feature in Android since 4.0. It's shittier than the iPhone X implementation because it only uses the normal camera so it can be tricked with photos. The iPhone X one is shitty but requires a slightly more sophisticated trick, like one from nature, like twins.

Will probably work with 3D printed models and shit. Wonder if you could use the 3D scan feature on the new Xperias, 3D print that, and trick Apple's Face ID with it.

What does the iphone X use?

it uses two cameras, a regular one and an infared one, and an infared laser / light of some kind to project onto your face to verify that the face isn't flat like a photo.

the fingerprint sensor was fine.why overcomplicate things?biometric passwords are made for conveniece not safety, and the fingerprint sensor was the comfiest.if you want security over convenience use a password.

Oh I see

It's a miniature kinect. It shoot out grid of infrared dots and develops a three-dimensional map of your face. It then compares this map to the hashed 'master key' face data and decides whether or not to unlock the device. That is why the wide notch is currently needed instead of micro-notch on the Essential Phone. There are too many sensors needed for FaceID to work properly.

>So is the camera too low res to use eye data or what?

Certainly in imperfect lighting.
Images would simply be too noisy (and "noise reduction" just blurs the shit out of everything)

Samsung isn't dumb enough to add a notch that obstructs part of the screen.

>can be tricked with a photo
>iphone x is shitty but requires slightly more sophistication
>you just need a fucking identical twin to trick that one
are you kidding me

>When I thought there was no gay nigger

There are some.

But niggers can't be normally gay.
They have to be flamboyantly over the top supergay or they'll get beaten up constantly.
And most homosexuals rather live a straight life than having to act like those two.

I know, right? The notch is dumb, but face unlocking is the future. Developing a rival technology to Apple's FaceID is the highest priority for Samsung/Google engineers right now.

>face unlocking is the future
It's worst than fingerprint unlocking by any metric. Just another Apple gimmick to sell their new phone.

If your hands are wet, then face unlock is better than fingerprint unlock. It is better by at least one common metric.

If your hands are wet you just shake them and it will work. It's not like you would be able to use your phone at all with wet hands.

What if you have third degree burns on your face? Do you have to get a new phone?

Have FaceID fail, enter your real password, and update the FaceID master key with your new horribly disfigured visage. There is no problem with that situation.

Why not just use a master password to begin with? This exploitable shit is just adding holes to your security.

It isn't very exploitable though, unless you have an identical twin.

If you removed biometric security, most people would disable passcodes entirely. That was exactly how things worked before the 5S. Apple made fingerprint readers a must-have feature, because the alternative for most people is no security.

You're also more likely to make to master passcode much simpler since you'd have to enter it dozens of times every day. With biometric security, you can make the master passcode virtually unbreakable.
