What did I need to check before going too gnu/linux ?

Run a live version of the distro you chose(gentoo) and see if everything is working properly. Troubleshoot if needed and then ur good to install. make sure you have an ext4 partition ready

If you have a laptop, switchable video card can be troublesome.

Well just need to back up my porn, I mean work and I'm good (already tried antergos and seems pretty good)

INSTALL GENTOO

Nope, got a gayming pc

Definetly not this, rather go with slackware.

But best would be some debian based

Stick to ubuntu lts if u don't want to waste your time.
KDE neon user lts if u don't like unity.

But I prefer xfce

LTS edition is useless. Even KDE devs say so.

If you've not done it yet, go with Ubuntu, Debian if you're feeling confident.

Sure, Arch/Gentoo would be better from someone that has a specific goal in mind and actually knows what the fuck they're doing, but if you're learning for the first time and just want a regular, personal use computer, don't listen to the memes.

Get Ubuntu. Might be painful for a few days while you figure out what to do. Troubleshooting may make that a few weeks, but you should be fine. Remember to

$ sudo -i
Enter your password, and
$ apt update && apt upgrade && apt dist-upgrade

in the terminal fairly often, it updates your shit (without having to reboot).

Have fun.

Install Debian and tick the box for XFCE in the installer.

>not getting windows pro and telling it when you want updates

are you really this dumb op, you literally can find free keys online for windows pro.

Currently, the best windows, to my mind, is the 7.
Then, if you want the best OS for customization, you can test Debian

Try Manjaro :)

Try Ubuntu. It still has the biggest userbase and is the most widely supported. If you want, you can go from there to some more advanced distros, but Ubuntu should really be enough. And that's coming from an Arch user.

>computer running slow
>try to reboot
>....
>Windows encountered an issue while attempting to reboot, try again later
Windows 10 can't even restart correctly, are you fucking kidding me right now Microshit?

I love how only normalfags complain about the automatic updating.
Everyone who knows how to use a computer disabled it or is already using linux as their main OS.

What were they thinking?

Dude, if you have trouble handling WIndows Update i sincerely doubt you'll make it in linux.

Sounds like OSX is a bit more your speed i think

windows has a clear and easy deferral process if you're using the machine at the time though...?

is this a joke.

What's the proper technique for handling Windows Update? Do you have to sacrifice a goat and a couple of virgins to Microsoft before hitting "install updates"?

it does, literally the event in the picture cannot happen unless you literally ignore copious warnings beforehand

You click the defer button...

How does that properly install updates or prevent updates from installing shitty programs you don't want?
And furthermore, what happens when it won't let you defer anymore?

>What did I need to check before going too gnu/linux ?
Your head for brain damage.

By not using "Home" version, I guess.
My Pro had never installed anything on its own. I never got any promotions and suggestions aside from the ones in Start menu - where I turned suggestions off later, so they're gone too.

Also, Windows only forces the updates it considers critical (huge vulnerability fixes and stuff). It won't generally update when you're on a metered connection.

>How does that properly install updates or prevent updates from installing shitty programs you don't want?
When you shut down the computer at the end of the night like a good normal person, you click "Update then shut down". Then you go to bed before 12am.
>And furthermore, what happens when it won't let you defer anymore?
See above. The whole update process takes less than 15 minutes. Go make a cup of coffee or something while you take a break from work.

You're supposed to move to linux when Windows is not enough for you.
If you're not enough for windows, then you might as well get a mac, or just use your smartphone.

Can someone tell me why these shenanigans don't happen on my Enterprise install?

I'm planning on going Windows 10 (never got used to linux), but I can't stand this update bullshit.
Should I go for a pirated enterprise copy so I can't disable it?

nothing, back up your stuff than rm -rf your system32

>programs you don't want

kek, you don't get a word in this, you accepted the EULA, that is not your personal computer anymore, it is a host for THEIR operating system, you are just allowed to license and use it, be thankful for it

do you think gates and nadella does customer support for their families?
>no mom, have you tried switching it off and on again? what do you mean your taskbar is broken, it is called a ribbon

I know torvalds does.

where are the proofs?

???

>windows store not uninstalled
>windows mail client not uninstalled
What were you thinking faggot?

Try dealing with it for work then.
>4 identical PCs get the latest update in a small office
>two are fine
>one runs the disk up to 100% when using the scanner
>the other keeps losing mapped drives
t-thanks microsoft

You're welcome, user.
