In this thread, we make a new language.
Languages for Shitposting

Here are some previous attempts:
...
make it agglutinative
Everyone should just learn Esperanto instead
Post some example sentences please.
Would you like examples from a real life agglutinative language or do you want me to make something up
Both!
A relatively short example is the 46-letter komencopaleontologiokonservatoriaĉestriĝontajn, which is an (accusative and plural) adjective that means "about to begin to become the leader of a contemptible palaeontology conservatory".
Just take random words from each language and call it a day.
I made a language like 5-6 years ago, but lost almost everything because some stole my laptop
The only thing I still have is the Lord's Prayer, along with some random words that are on a certain autistic board
Agglutination is a process in linguistic morphology derivation in which complex words are formed by stringing together morphemes without changing them in spelling or phonetics. Languages that use agglutination widely are called agglutinative languages. An example of such a language is Turkish, where for example, the word evlerinizden, or "from your houses," consists of the morphemes, ev-ler-iniz-den with the meanings house-plural-your-from.
So basically you have a base noun or verb or whatever and you add standard prefixes and suffixes to alter the meaning or specify with things like tense, voice, mood, number, common adjectives, etc.(if I'm thinking about this correctly)
Found it
Appea weu lha raosu,
Peitéuri herrime incuia-hefa,
Balhe valdít-hefa,
Eccine tacum-hefa, eusar lha
Raosu, rel gea céres.
Rele dáru-weu pjunsur pjunsoca veu.
Lurra narele veniu-weu veu,
rel narelunám veu veniarm-weu tembra.
Lurra ro-veldite veu lha poccjéni,
ciur vapaite veu pe caisto.

>that are on a certain autistic board
Which one?
Some random German Europa Universalis forum I visited years ago. Not much to do with imageboard shitposting
It looks like... Estonian and Portuguese had a weird child.
very sick man
It's what I was aiming for actually, I thought about something that looks something between Portuguese and Finnish with a bit of Hungarian.
thanks
Go there and bring us your notes.
Let's start with the word for "hello". What is the perfect way to say hello in a shitposting language?
A variation of kys I presume.
>l-b-s
>to hello; to greet
From Lithuanian "Labas".
Libus: I greet you.
Looks like it doesn't exist anymore. Well, fuck
I found another sentence though
He kills the wolf
>Vermosic jas vai vorxiu
Did he kill the wolf?
>An vermosic jas vai vorxiu?
Feel free to add some to our collaborative language.
I made a new language wen ur mum screamed my name out lmfao fukken #rekt
...
You should make a Slack group so we can work on this more efficiently.
I remember using it in /sci/
Why not just learn a meme language like finnish that in reality no one speaks.
If it's a language for shitposting, then obviously it has to be meme filled
Therefore the word for Sad is "frog" and the word for frog is "pepe"
Also adjectives should go both before and after the noun, like the negative in French or Afrikaans
So sad frog is "Frog pepe frog"
The word for friend is "Wojak"
I think the word for hello should be "Ay(yyyyy)" where the amount of Ys tells you the distance one is saying hello to the other person from
1y = 0-5 meters
2y = 5-10 meters
3y = 10-15 meters
etc.
If communicating from an unknown distance, or a distance too large for this method to be used, the word becomes Ayx (silent x)
No.
We want all progress to be available to the public, not quarantined on another site.
Because it is even more useless than an invented language.
The problem with using existing memes is that they get outdated fairly quickly.
But once it becomes a living language this doesn't matter as new memes will just be incorporated into the language by default
Maybe it should be a dead language like Latin.
Ideas:
Triconsonantal roots for verbs conjugated for person but not tense
Noun roots are short, usually less than 10 letters but they are agglutinative so they can become extremely long
Adjectives/adverbs are just a suffix to the nouns and verbs.
Pronouns are an open class
Plurals are formed with reduplication
Tense is formed with copulae.
So will you retroactively modify old words or keep them, and make the language a pseudo-archive for memes?
>We want all progress to be available to the public, not quarantined on another site.
The public won't care beyond the people working in it. Making a centralized centre for development offers permanency since members can easily access archives and message people without waiting for a 60-second cooldown alongside shitposting in other threads. Purposed generals like this also die quickly after a couple of threads because people working on it can miss new threads if they hadn't been made for an hour or two. If you don't make something to keep progress in check then this is just another chat thread, which I don't think you want it to be. Hell, you should even make a mailing list.
Then maybe we need to make it a daily general so everyone can join.
>So will you retroactively modify old words or keep them, and make the language a pseudo-archive for memes?
No, once the original rules and words are set there's simply no regulatory board so people can make changes as they please.
Only memesters would learn the language, as its purpose is shitposting, so then memesters will obviously incorporate new memes into the language. With no regulatory board the memes will simply become a normal part of the language.
Just say NO to language academies.
this
Okay, I'd join in with that. Granted, the problem with hubs are circlejerks, so a general would be better in that regard. The easiest thing would be to make a hub then regularly make threads offering for people to join.
Right, but memes are quick. If there's no regulatory board, then the language would just be an archive. Using memes are dumb as well, because there's only so many in both quantity and meaning.
Should the language be a priori or a posteriori?
*puff*
dude... were just chemicals... we dont know shit when we were born
I'd say an a posteriori based on Japanese and Latin, like mentioned before :)
>konnichiwa
>salve
>sonichiwa
>sonic
Doesn't look very much like Portuguese, desu.
For god's sake we could even write a latex paper collaboratively
that would make things go faster
We're not looking for faster. We're looking for open, active collaboration.
So, post some example sentences and/or translate some copy and pasted texts.
Just start and others will follow.
Perhaps you're not looking for faster. I'm sitting here bored, to be very honest, looking for something to do.
user, what state do you live in?
Nice try fbi
get regionals
American is "Burger"
I'll switch to my laptop then. (Mobile posting :^))
THEN DO SOMETHING.
Jumal herum cumor hoge.
God forbids you to eat pork.
>Jumal
Estonian for "God".
>herum
From Arabic,"haram" with the root "h-r-m".
>cumor
From Spanish "comer", with the root "c-m-r".
>hoge
From /s4s/, meaning "hog, pig, pork"; similar to "doge".
>Florida
>Kansas
Why me? What about OP, who suggested this in the first place? But I'll try my hand.
Let's make it agglutinative, like previously suggested, and make the smallest meaning two-letter (using the latin alphabet) syllables. And use memes.
Basically, use katakana to rewrite memes and add on to create more complex meaning.
Fa-gu fu-ro-gu (alternate symbol is a heiroglyphic of pepe) means "(to have) a bad day)".
If we want to make a writing system, let's use a 16x16 grid to make basic drawings.
We need to keep it simple
Yeah, but we also don't need to be able to vocalize it. We can play around a bit
Yeah but it needs to be simple to type and read, people aren't going to learn the basics of it if it isn't basic to begin with. We should just stick with the current base, latin alphabet with 3 letter bases and vowels changing based on speakers and recipients
Okay. Can you give some more examples of the three-letter base?
Le Pepe foroge legun nix.
Pepe the Froge is not your friend.
From the thread last night, there was a great example. "Babylon" being the word for "to speak."
Three most important consonants: b-b-l
Insert vowels based on who is speaking and who is receiving.
Bibul = I speak to you
Babal = We speak to each other
Not sure if those are the exact vowel/pronoun meanings, but the concept is the same
tok = talk
kil = kill
kys = commit suicide
wat = what
wuz = was/were
fel = feel(ing)/emotion
Is this what you had in mind?
I like it. Baby babbling, eh?
Not so great since you lose the ability to conjugate easily.
A bit like pig latin mixed with different languages. Maybe a bit too simple to decipher as well.
He is referring to Semitic style tri-consonantal root systems.
I have been using indifferent languages.com for help making the roots.
/'јumɒ̈l hɒ̈'ɾum ku'moɾ 'hɒʃ/ ?
>A bit like pig latin mixed with different languages. Maybe a bit too simple to decipher as well.
But it can't be too hard or nobody but losers like us will use it.
Once we have a significant vocabulary, we need to spread it to other generals so others can learn it.
However you want to pronounce it.
So far, we're just focusing on the writing portion since we usually communicate via text.
If you want to record yourself speaking it, use Vocaroo.
Similar to that, yes. Take common words/memes/shitposts from different languages and simplify them to three main consonants, and then place vowels to denote who is speaking to what, and perhaps adding prefixes/suffixes based on tense and such
Yes, of course. Maybe that is the best way.
Wow, that's interesting; I've never heard of it, though I'm not a linguist or anything.
So, let's decide on the base and then head into word generation/grammar generation. Should we put it to a vote or something? How will we keep track of things? We still need a method of control, even if we keep it a general on Sup Forums.
You're going about this the wrong way.
Just post your ideas and use them.
Whatever sticks, sticks.
There's no need to centralize. That will happen later, when we have several hundred speakers.
I get that. I'll just repeat what I've been saying, and that is Sup Forums threads have very short memories. Unless we individually keep notes on what has been happening, we'll start to get people repeating things and so on (which has already been happened based on the last thread or two).
So, are we using tri-consonants or are we using CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) roots?
The former gives us many thousands of words while the latter gives us 2400.
Okay, so we're doing three-consonant bases of words from different languages (which can be memes but don't get too tryhard or edgy by putting pepe in everything) and then using vowels to denote speakership.
Post lists of words with their consonant root and note where the words come from, I'll begin making a list of the words for now.
For example:
Babylon - b-b-l = to speak
Kill yourself - k-y-s = to commit suicide
Maybe that can be a strength.
It will be an ever-mutating monster of memes! :D
I like it!
to laugh - l-g-h, maybe?
Might be
We should have a password that does not make sense. You'll ask why.. People can figure it out it isnt that complicated
To understand whos been here and learn and whose figure it out by looking at it and killing the meme
Ligoh.
I'm laughing at it.
Oh, and "to be", of course. I'm not sure how to do this one. Maybe a simple vowel like "e"? It isn't actually necessary, we could imply its usage based on context.
If we could really get this going with maybe a dozen or two speakers, we could get some board-specific dialects going.
Sounds good!
Vinur a Liguh.
I came here to laugh at you.
Somebody posited the idea of "rofl" = r-f-l for to laugh, or maybe it was to be funny. Not sure
What are some words in Dutch we can use? What is "to be" in Dutch? We need words from different language so it doesn't sound like babby's first language
If we pull our lexicon from Sup Forums, we'll end up with words revolving around emotions mostly.
"To be" is zijn, so it could be z-j-n, but remember Dutch is close to English, Frisian (my first language) more so.
We also have to make sure the language doesn't sound like nerd speak or else the wannabe Chads will deny it.
We can use this to quickly make a short list of words and put together what we have so far. We can ditch it after our session finishes, and save what we have individually, so we stay focused on the general.
I'm in!
Do we want articles?
After we get base verbs created. Next step is nouns after we get 50-100 verbs
We should have "le" as our article.
...
Right on.
Remember there's no actual need for articles. Russians talk like cave men and they got people into space.
though "le" is good

So, 100-150 verbs, then nouns, and then a grammar framework?

Word order should be SVO, because it is the easiest.
