This thread is about the appreciation of whorology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.

Just a reminder that after FIFTEEN MONTHS we still have not seen anything from Omega about that buzz Aldrin designed Mars watch. We do however see pictures with an Omega employee obscuring the drawings.

Ebay propably is your best bet, but it's very hard to find one in good condition and if you do find one, expect to pay extra. Wear in the gold plating around the crown is very common because of winding the watch.

Casio quartz watches have gone up in price on ebay for no reason.
Watches I used to pay €40 for a year ago are now over €100

Not a single nip watch posted yet and i just realized how much nicer European design is than nip shit.
Elijah Wood
Why would we see anything about it? There's far more profit in more mindless cosmetic special editions, and Omega wouldn't want be seen doing something so unseemly as appearing to actually care about the engineering or horlogerie merits of their watches rather than their "prestige"
William Walker
Never buy anything from etsy before doign a price check on ebay for that.
Looks nice, reminds me a bit of the new marlin.
Joshua Walker
This little shitter came in the mail today. 35$, Pretty happy with it.
Sebastian Thompson
that is a soviet chronometer really cool watch and movement
seiko 5 would make a decent xmas gift, what model is best? there's like 6000 diff models and i'm not sure which. looking at the snxs79 (pic) among others
Carter Brooks
Picked up the f8192 from the watchmaker today. Was unable to fix the date wheel getting stuck on 12 so will need to order a nos date wheel - the date wheel is plastic so not surprised. No charge at least for an incomplete repair.
Hunter Brooks
That 5 logo should go
Carter Ward
Get a vager Hauers moonphase so we have a second user with one (and hopefully a better camera).
Nicholas Campbell
For the guy in the last thread asking about where to get a 1963 Seagull, watchunique is the cheapest I think.

I'm just giving you a hard time user. You know I love you.

I don;t think you are supposed to wear adult watches when you have a child forearm.
Cameron Peterson
That's probably the ugliest watch I've ever seen, and it probably cost as much as a vintage Rolex
Nathaniel Martinez
After posting that I realized that I need to get a tripod and set up remote shutter, just for general use. Most of the photos I post are still from my potato phone, but I have a couple decent ones of the moonphase now.
John Gray
Really consider a lightbox too.
Matthew Phillips
That would definitely help too, although I don't know what I would use it for other than watch pictures.
Gavin Cooper
You just build it for watch photos.
Ryan Brooks
Got this one for me, it´s gorgeous.

thinking of buying from kabaclyde. What should I know about vintage omegas? Any GOAT movements to look for?

People in its 40's-50's will bid for their youth precious mementos.
Their childhood happened in the 80's so go figure.
In the next decade you'll see price increases for 90's kids toys (MTG cards excluded as they already have a market)
Think discmans, tamagotchis and Lego

It looks like an absolute hunk of shit, it's way too big, and its not mechanically interesting in any way shape or form.

My hope was that Buzz Aldrin would make some noise about Omega being inexcusably late. >There's far more profit in more mindless cosmetic special editions, Tragically that is the truth. >and Omega wouldn't want be seen doing something so unseemly as appearing to actually care about the engineering or horlogerie merits of their watches rather than their "prestige" Soon there will be the 50 year anniversary of the first man on the Moon. If they cannot do better than yet another cosmetic re-issue I will SCREAM!
Omega, like many of the major brands, are stuck in the past. I hope MEMS will allow the innovative brands to create new designs that truly provide something new.
Lucas Myers
>It looks like an absolute hunk of shit, it looks fine, like a nice diver

if you like your shitty ugly watch good but don't act like its the best watch you can buy. its not even close. By your retarded logic a solar powered radio controlled g shock is better in every way and costs less.

I know a lot of professional divers who own rolexes but dive with their SNE437s
you probably don't know anything about diving though
Asher Murphy
You probably don't know shit about me and you are probably a faggot.

yes i do and im not gay :^)
commercial and professional divers swear by seikos
they are literally betting their lives
Elijah Garcia
>he hasn't read the instructions From memory it's due to the battery being used. They can only survive so many charge cycles. I thought it was 5 because it was half the time it takes before you need to replace the capacitor in a citizen.

no it's 20 years
Jonathan Mitchell
>says 2-3 years in the manual >n.n..no i.i.i..its 20

Man shut the flip up already. I went diving a few times, I know what time talking about. Real divers use dive computers, retarded posers wear dive watches while diving. Seriously. Whenever I see someone with a dive watch, you can almost guess they're extremely fat, think bud light is the pinnacle of bear, and their baseball caps backwards
Matthew Lee

Also consider that the gaskets will need changing every 2~4 years depending on the environment they are exposed to.

So you work with equipment that wouldn't be insured due to not following the correct use procedures?
Matthew Barnes
>Omega, like many of the major brands, are stuck in the past. I hope MEMS will allow the innovative brands to create new designs that truly provide something new. Ironically it will be the LVMH Group bringing that hope to bear first with the their new silicon oscillator movement. Apparently they plan to put it into production across Zenith, Hublot and even Tag Heueur, which is hilarious when you think about it. Who the fuck would have imagined it would be THEM of all the groups to really try to move the game forwards.
Adam Thompson
Thanks!
Daniel Powell
Zenith and Heuer have made innovations in the past so that's not too surprising 2bh.
Nicholas Cox
>So you work with equipment that wouldn't be insured due to not following the correct use procedures?
I am not worried about my watch being insured, I am worried about my very LIFE
that is why I trust SEIKO

So your not worried about health or life insurance by using unmaintained equipment? Your not worried about bit being covered by insurance if you make a mistake and damage something? Here you wouldn't even be allowed to put on unmaintained gear even if it's running fine.
Isaac Rivera
Why do some companies like some Lange movements put studs on their balance wheel?
Matthew Howard
>Here you wouldn't even be allowed to put on unmaintained gear even if it's running fine. where is here
Where I work each man is responsible for himself, we don't live in socialist countries

>Why do some companies like some Lange movements put studs on their balance wheel? because they are cuck faggots
Jason Lopez
Please leave the thread. Something about the weekend always draws shitposters here.
Oliver Taylor
The screws allow them to adjust the inertia of the balance, which helps in adjusting the watch's timekeeping.
Brayden King
Here is my work place. So you don't have a maintenance register or something similar for every person and their equipment and the equipment of the company? Also I don't live in a socialist country I live in a country that you have to do everything to make sure you have your insurance and can't get sued.
Luke Williams
