SSD

What SSD is actually worth money? Currently looking at 850evo at 96€ for 250gb. There has to be something better, right?

It's a good deal OP. You can go for it.

>falling for ssd meme
you might as well buy a vr headset

No that's actually ok maybe hold out for 512 gb

>falling for the grapes meme
>t. fox

SSDs are always pricey, so that's the normal price.

>>falling for a 1080p display
>you might as well buy a pair of 3D glasses

that's how retarded you sound.

The 950 Evo is good but sometimes it goes up in price by $40 and then a WD blue is better

There are two things that an SSD will give you that you can't buy with money anywhere else.
Speed and silence.
If those aren't important then you can Facebook on any old spinning rust drive.

this. I'm never going back to spinning rust.

That's cheap, op. Buy it now.

you're welcome.

if you want to buy 250 gb priced as "3tb" hdd....
go buy it.

IMHO its needed only for some korean mmorpgs. For regular pc its waste of money,

instant boot
no worryies about hdd failing
its like going from analog to digital, you should try it.

there was lots of faulty ssd that was locking themself up.
especially early models from ocz.

Yeah I remember that. I have an original OCZ vertex 60gb that still werks. Has over 25k power on hours. I always forget how far SSDs have come, that ocz drive maxes out at 60mb/s sequential writes.

It's pretty good. Think about NVMe though.

If only I had money

850 evo is good. I personally uses 850 pro myself

Thanks for everyone. Already ordered the 850 evo.

You mean it loses all of its soul.

speaking of which, is a 850 pro worth the extra shekels? If I get the evo I'll probably be paranoid of the writes I do the ssd...

>If I get the evo I'll probably be paranoid of the writes I do the ssd
Why the fuck would you be paranoid? Evos handle 300 TB of writes before reallocations start and almost reach 1k TB before failing. I guarantee you'll never hit those numbers.

>not getting 960evo
okay grandpa

I still have old 1st gen ocz on my server as OS drive.

Crucial used to be a much cheaper alternative per GB compared to Samsung. They also offer different capacities. The Crucial MX300 lines also use 3D nand and offer 256GB, 525GB,, 750GB, and 1.2TB (I think the last one is no longer offered)

But for overall best performance and reliability, Samsung has everyone beat.

heard good things about plextor

500gb is better imo

>no worryies about hdd failing
SSDs have a higher rate of failure than HDDs.

It is more difficult to recover when they go bad.
At least ddrescue can repeatedly scrape bad HDD sectors, bad SSD sectors are perma dead.

My old ocz outlived 6 WD hdds, vlack blue green blue

Still in 97% health

Used drives offer the best value.

My chink SSD lost its first percent of life left after 31k hours.

SSD is practically a must by now.
But NVMe is a complete meme and won't bring you a noticeable increase in speeds when coming from a standard SATA drive.
t. 500gb 960 EVO owner.

If you want an actual upgrade from SATA, then save more money and get yourself Optane, which has an actual speed improvements where it matters.

Failure rate is a useless metric. Saying something has a failure rate of "1" means nothing.
