Put it on the play store.
Yeah, I will, but it will probably take a while, so I'm working on getting it on F-droid first.
>unlicense
That's brave

finally
>implying someone would steal a client for a dead protocol
Yeah, let's hope it doesn't take long.
>>implying someone would steal a client for a dead protocol
No, implying there is no code that can be used elsewhere. Anyway, I am waiting for this to land on F-Droid to try it.
Good job, OP.
Oh believe me, there isn't.
And if someone does, somehow, manage to reuse the code, good for them. Not like I care.
Thanks user. Are you the guy that made the icon by any chance? I'd like to attribute him.
I'm the person who made the icon desu. Thanks for actually using it my face just lit up seeing it as the op image
Np user, thanks for making it, it's a really cute mofo.
Do you want me to attribute you under an irl name or nick?
That would be awesome o(≧∇≦o) either NO_ob or Kanna-Chan you choose. I should have access to drawing equipment tomorrow or the day after if you need anything modified
why is pocket gopher so angry? look at him! he seems upset. I'm the one who should be upset. the new alpha won't even install on my device.
Hm only real concern I have is that it might be a little complex for an icon, so if you could modify it to be more cartoonish/material desginish I'd appreciate it, thanks.
It's practically a release version ;_;
And what version of android are you running?
Oh, and he's angry cuz golang stole his spotlight grrr
Because his protocol is dead and he can't deal with it.
W-wrong!
hai i'll check in this bread when i got my laptop setup and i'll try make some changes to it, would you like me to give you the psd file at some point
Can I do documentation and shit? I need to practice my html/css
Sure, I'll make a folder to store that stuff so it's all in the repo, thanks.
Of course, what info do you need?
>html/css
>gopher
YOU'LL DO IT IN PLAINTEXT OR NOT AT ALL

Here are some rough guidelines for what Google expects btw. Feel free to deviate from them tho (shouldn't be too much of a problem).
The first device I installed Pogo on is running Android 6.01. I just installed Pogo on a second device running Android 4.4.2, and as soon as I tap on a gopher portal Pogo crashes. Help us, Obi-Wan Kenobi , you're our only hope.
are there even any gopher servers left that are not dead?
All I know of is a Sup Forums mirror
sure, sdf.org and floodgap.com are alive and wel.
well fuck, you might be just on the limit of what I'm targeting, I'll see if I can bring the target API lower.
Cam someone explain to me why Gopher is still around?
Is it just for sentimental reasons?
I know it's more efficient, etc but without a huge user base, what's the point?
Its filesystem-like structure is much more pleasant to browse and the community is a mix of academics and hobbyists, so it's pretty comfy.
There's def still a very loyal user base making new content. Not only that, but most server have over 2 decades of history and material, so it's not like there's a stuff to see and do.
Hm so it seems I was compiling for android 4.4, which should in theory work flawlessly for you.
I'll have to run the app in an emulator running 4.4 to see what really is going on, so expect a bug fix tomorrow morning, thanks.
a lack of stuff to see and do*
From "The Gopher Manifesto":
>Gopher is an infoserver which can deliver text, graphics, audio, and
multimedia to clients. Keeping documents "link clean", making linking a
function of the server info-tree and not in the doc, layout is kept to
its most frugal minimum, and is standard across all docs. No graphic
design means its the ideal navigable interface, a hypertext Eden. It
gives simplified usage for sight-impaired users, same contents for
wired/wiredless, and requires no capital investments in layout and
"design".

Hey OP, you're likely already aware of this, but why not browse the source code for Overbite and get the best of both your code and Overbite's? Overbite just werkz on my devices, but the font is to small for my tired old eyes. Also, Sup Forumscan revamp or cutify the logo.
gopher.floodgap.com
For anyone else interested:

I think there's a +/- on the bottom right to change font size in Overbite Android.
looks gud desu, hamsters are rad
Oh snap! It didn't appear for me until I taped the screen. Also discovered that pinch to zoom works, thanks user.
Werks perfectly for me gopher-user
nexus 6p android 712
keep the good work flowing
What is this
A Gopher browser
I mean, I could, but it's old (last release was in 2010) and our codebases are completely different (both built solely for their respective app) so it makes little sense.
>Any Android phone or device with 1.5 (Cupcake) or higher. Android 2.1 (Eclair) or higher is recommended.
I mean, do I really have to point out why it just werks better on older phones?
I-it's a gopher.
Thanks, but I'm kind of running out of things to implement to be honest, so don't expect heavy development from here on (I've been working full time on this project for like over a month now).
Fuck, calm down dad. I'll do it in plaintext then.
Sorry if this is disrespectful but I'm unoblivious about gopher protocol and stuff. A handy list of features/instructions should help, I am installing this and taking screenshots of the tool itself. I'll elaborate on what you provide to me, I have some copywriting experience as well.
Don't worry about what that Real Gopher said, just do it how you want.
From wkipedia:
>The Gopher protocol was strongly oriented towards a menu-document design
Gopher is basically a very simple form of sharing files in a structured manner (files go inside menus/directories).
You'll see that it's basically a more strongly structured and simplified HTML.
As for the features of the app, I'll give you a list in a few minutes.
Thanks btw, I really appreciate it.
>Fuck, calm down dad. I'll do it in plaintext then.
I should think so. You've never been anything but a nuisance to me, and a burden on your mother.
Cheers! I'm on discord/gitter or whatever you use, if that's necessary, i'm on /wdg/ server.
Fair enough, my neet life is rough. For you, i mean.
He's a big dad.
And cool, I'll be in the wdg discord in a few minutes.
How do I set a gopher server? I was thinking on putting up with a gopherhole on I2P to host stuff I want to share, instead of using a torrent that can't be modified later. I also dig the format.
# apt-get install pygopherd
# man pygopherd
There's many servers out there but that's the only one I spotted in the Debian repos. It also optionally functions as an HTTP server that serves up your Gopher menus as HTML pages (gopher.quux.org for example) for those that try and access it with a web browser.
>python
Why not just setup a page on sdf.org?
They allow you to "link" (upload) files there, right?
Thanks, I'll look into this.
You can find a server written in just about anything since it's a very simple protocol.
One of the more unique ones I've seen is a Ruby library called Gopher2000 that works like the Sinatra web library.
Personally I use Bucktooth, a Perl-based one, because it sits nicely on top of [x]inetd and has a simple "proxy" interface to build something like what pygopherd does (example: gopher.floodgap.com
>Bucktooth
Just what I was looking, thanks.
Another source of gopherholes for the bookmark thing tuffy.de
Why does he have cum in his mouth?
Are you hinting towards something OP?
So it's like Limewire or something?
Having a hard time finding any that are still up in that list. The default bookmarks probably shouldn't get too crowded, I think just Floodgap (for Veronica-2 and it's list of servers that it automatically generates/prunes as it digs, gopher://gopher.floodgap.com/1/world) and SDF (for setting up your own Gopher, although SDF is linked to right at the top of Floodgap's root anyway) would be enough.
brainlet here, google didn't answer me what the difference between gopher and ftp?
If you understand the difference between FTP and HTTP, you understand the difference between FTP and Gopher.
It's like Firefox, except for Gopher instead of HTML
