Beep boop, fellow robot

How many Thinkpads do you fags own? I'm up to almost 20. I'm going to dump my T61s, should I Libreboot them before I sell them? I feel I could ask for $25 more a pop if I did this, is that reasonable?

I've got one and a half.

Only the one. I might get an x220 for the memes though.

w530 with i7-3940, k2000m, 16GB Ram and 180GB ssd for $570.
Is it an okay deal?

>didnt replace the trackpad

I've been considering it, but I've never managed to wrap my head around the clitmouse and as an actual trackpad I prefer this to the x50 one. I've used a T460 for months, so it's an informed opinion.

>still no Sup Forums sticker
Restock them you bastard, I only want one

how is battery life?

Absolute autism mode on Ubuntu, I can squeak out 7 hours of light use. Windows will do somewhere between 6 and 7. If I boost it up as high as it can go it's sub 2. This is on the 9cell with a TN 1080P panel that I assume the last owner put in.

not enough

Hey /tpg/, do you think $200 for a T440S or $79 for a T420S is a good deal?

79 for a T420S sounds good

W500, W520, X230

Do they actually make upgraded motherboards for old thinkpads? I can't see any reason lenovo would do that, so I imagine they would have to be custom.

I dont know if this is where to ask, but what laptop should I get for 1080p 60fps gaming ~$1000? I heard MSI has the best build quality.

T400

Dell, MSI, and ASUS have absolute shit build quality. I have no idea about Acer, but HP and Lenovo are usually pretty good.

get a cheap laptop and a desktop

I don't know, I was thinking about doing an itx build. The reason why I thought laptop originally because I would be moving soon and not knowing about the stability of my situation. Do you think a compact itx build would be easy to move around?

Is there anything more comfy than using a T60?

x61t for drawing

You're right, they are custom. A Chinese enthusiast company called 51nb makes them.

Today i bought an used T400, does it strictly support 1066mhz ram?. I only got 1333 and 800 mhz memory as spares

non-ME memepad feels too slow for my """productivity""" task

You are alright

I have a weird problem with a T40 of mine. It turns on regulary and starts booting, but the screen won't turn on. I've checked the VGA output and it appears to work SOMETIMES (i have gotten video output through VGA at the beginning of my tests, but now, after about 50 boot attempts, im struggling to get a signal). Also during testing the screen actually did turn on a couple of seconds after it should've turned on (The BIOS screen comes up about 5-7 seconds too late). After it finished booting i was presented with Windows XP, which immediately froze, when i moved the cursor about 100 pixels. After that i did not yet suceed in getting a VGA signal or the screen to turn on again. Im not sure what the problem could be - i have tested another screen, but the problem stays.
Since the problem appears to be inconsistent (screen stays off, turns on next boot, stays off for the next 20 boots, vga signal might get through every 10th boot) it may be a minor hardware fault (broken connector, etc), but i have checked most connections i could, and they appear to be fine :/
Any suggestions?
Where could the problem originate from?

How much should I pay for a
Lenovo 440p, i5-4300M 2.6GHz
8GB Ram
New 500GB Crucial SSD Drive
Windows 10Pro 64Bit
?

Using an X61t.

I'd ask the seller to remove the ssd.

Why?

Are Newegg refurbished machines not to be trusted? They have the best prices and a lot of reviews that claim what they got was basically broken. I'm stupid pls no bully.

It's the main thing inflating the price, plus i'd rather use a small ssd + storage hdd.

it'll downclock anyway

don't know anything about buying used laptop batteries nor anything about battery cycles, but how does a used legit 9-cell battery (t440p) with about 70 cycles and 88wh capacity for $30~ sound?

should i buy a x230 or an x220?
are they memes? my local thrift store has an x230 for 70$ (without a drive or a battery) hmm

Anyone look into the Thinkpad X1 Carbon?
I know it's the flagship aka overpriced model but it's on sale for $300 off this week.
I need something light (it's 2.5Lbs) as I travel by train.
The big downside is that the ram is soldered on and cannot be upgraded from 8GB.
However the keyboard, screen, i5/i7 chip and 256gb of memory are great.

Does anyone have a good Thinkpad to compare to?
I need to emphasize lightness as my 7Lb Hp ZBook is ridiculous.

I got my x230 for 120 and it's not bad, I'd say go for it.

buy it fgt

T470/s

I pulled trigger on pic related. Tell me how much I fucked up

I quite like mine but only get one if you actually need the modern hardware and make sure to get either a 4th or 5th gen model. The Carbon is super light especially for the size and while not as durable as the IBM ThinkPads they're still pretty good.

>no trackpoint
>no physical mouse buttons
>silver
>Pentium

Return that shit and buy a x201, an SSD and as much ram as it will take (I think that it's 16GB). You'll save at least $400 for almost the same performance and a way better body and more ports.

It doesn't have to be a x201 really anything of that era would be good. x200 x220 t340 .etc

On my 9-cell T440p I can get 8 hours on linux.

>ideapad
That doesn't belong in this thread

How are the thinkpad x?

New models are breddy gud

Dayum boi.

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen.

Well, I plan to get a large SSD anyways.
What would be a good price to pay with and without the SSD?

not any more than buying any other cheap laptop.
Don't think that it has anything to do with thinkpads, though.

Would a T420 ultrabay HDD caddy work in a t440p?

How many years until P50s/P70s are affordable for poorfags like me?

Are you selling any x220T's?

What does Sup Forums think of the new 25th anniversary edition T series? The massively inflated price is unfortunate, but there's no denying it's probably the comfiest laptop being produced in 2017

user with the broken t61 here, I've come to the conclusion that the problem was the roll cage was broken at the left hinge on one side, and the piece that it broke off of was completely gone, so there was no way to replace it really. I ended up breaking that whole corner piece of the roll cage off which was a bad idea, but it didn't really do much. It works but I have to push in the left hinge and finagle it whenever I want to adjust the screen or open the laptop so as not to completely break the broken chassis

From a business standpoint, if they sell them all, it was a good marketing move.
On the other hand, it's trash, and I hope that the bezel and keyboard end up on ebay.

T61, X61t, X200t, T420, X220.

Got a t410 for $60 no had and no power adapter.

Very minor cosmetic damage.

Buying things from the dump is :3

I do all of my daily work + personal work on my main computer and the only other device I have is an android phone. Today my computer (which is only 6 months old) shut down instantly and I don't know why, I suppose it was probably a false contact from the power cable or something, but anyway that's not the point here, I'm just afraid to not be without a proper device in case something goes wrong with the PC and I need to change some part of it.

So I'd like to get myself a laptop of some sort, something durable, reliable, and preferably using Windows 10 (because I need it for what I do). I don't want to get an FX laptop or some shit, and I'm not too sure about getting a Skylake/Kabylake one, and I don't know when the Ryzen ones would hit.
I don't know much about thinkpads either. Budget is proportional to the use I'll have of it, which is very basic uses even a Celeron could handle.
Please rip my post to pieces that'd be helpful. Thanks.

I need a new 6-cell battery for my x220, should i get an official one or are there any good third party ones out there?

Which one of you was this?

youtu.be/nBvfJ0EHtcY

>amazon said the t420 would be 1366x768
>fine, buy it anyways
>it's 1600x900 any the screen looks perfect
feels fucking good man

I have 3.
IBM T42 (doesn't boot anymore)
IBM T60 (I'm convinced this will outlive me)
Lenovo X201 Tablet

Looking to get rid of them and replace with a larger screen model. All my uses for a laptop are basically stationary; so I'm planning on cheaping out on battery and unit weight. I will be moving the device only between a few locations.

Yeah, my T440p came with 1600x900, and it's pretty good for a cheap TN panel.
Still want to get a FHD IPS panel for it because I'm noticing color distortion and have to adjust the screen angle all the time when I move it.

>20
We're gonna need pics of your collection and a nice fucking timestamp or you're just another CIA nigger.

I own a X220 for daily uses and a X60s that needs battery replacement even though I already changed it but I got chinked.

>the one
>chiclet keyboard
user pls.

UPS nigger left my thinkpad at the depot yesterday morning so i didnt get it and i'm not home for delivery today ;__:

Alright cunts I need your help.
My fucking macbook of six years just died today and I'm not touching apple ever again. I want to get a ThinkPad because I think we can all agree they're some of the best laptops on the market. My specs before were:
An i7 Quad Core
16GB DDR3 RAM
512GB SSD
And less than a gig in graphics which is what caused the death of my computer.
I'm removing the drive because I need the data that's on It, but I need a replacement for this piece of shit.
Something mobile, yet somewhat powerful. I don't really want a 15" again but I just wanna see what there is and get something within the next week. What you got /tpg/?

It was a replacement for a 2010 MBP, it's a lovely upgrade.

Definitely libreboot then sell them
Convenience sells

What's wrong with the T420s
Nobody is parting away for a second gen core i machine for that price unless it's broken

Pls help me I don't want to be am applefag anymore

My t450 doesn't boot. This happened frequently before, and the only fix was
>remove batteries/plug/ram, hold power 1 minute, attach ram/plug

now the problem occurs again. The solution above doesn't work this time. the first few times the little reset button worked, but now nothing does. What can I do?

forgot to add:
when i press the power button, the power led blinks 3 times(like when you plug in the ac)

Either faulty ac adapter, ded battery, defective ram, or fried mobo. Try replacing hardware in that order

Since thinkpads apparently went to shit after xx20 generation, are there good5 workstation memepads by other companies you can get for cheap now?

they're worse

I believe the t440p would be something to look at. Though, you may need to upgrade the cpu on it for a quad core i7

in what way?

well, it just booted up. I don't know what I did, just random things. But for 30 minutes i kept trying stuff. then it randomly turned on.

that happened to my t430 a week ago. Turns out it was the power button.

is there a more hnnnnnng laptop than this?

it did blink 3 times each time i pressed the power button. did yours just not work at all?

What the fuck were the chinks thinking whats this bullshit

...

It did blinked thrice too. I figured it's the battery that came with the tp so I replaced it. Blinking's gone but sometimes it still won't boot. Then I discovered the sweet spot of the power button.

Include everything bad about modern Thinkpads, worsen it, then throw in extras like poor materials and gaudy designs.

>hnnnnnng
is it coil whine?

blinking gone after a new battery? my thrice-blinking is only when its not booting, and i press the button. how did you discover it was the power button?

There's an area of the power button if I push with my fingernail it turns on flawlessly. I replaced the keyboard and problem's gone.

I also replaced the battery in case I forgot to mention

...

buy 9cell original instead, it just 60 bucks on amazon
