This thread is about the appreciation of horology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
This watch is perfection Everyone in the world knows what a rolex is Its quality is unmatched If you want a watch just save up and get a rolex
Jason Clark
Guys, I want to get in on the watch train, can you recommend a watch that doesn't cost more than 350$ and is accepted by fellow /wt/ posters.
Jayden Sanders
The explorer simply says "I couldn't afford a real Rolex so bought this instead"
Mason Stewart
>Guys, I want to get in on the watch train, can you recommend a watch that doesn't cost more than 350$ and is accepted by fellow /wt/ posters.
1963 Seagull.
Better than any boring ugly dogshit with misaligned chapter rings >some people here are going to recommend you.
Lucas Reed
not under 1k though. if you want something under 1k ill find it
Ayden Williams
I'm considering saving for a grey dial 36mm Oyster Perpetual.
Evan Rivera
You are fucking crazy explorer 1 36mm is best everyday rolex.
Gavin Morales
oh hello, I agree Rolex is the best. 904L steel, Chronometer movement, Swiss perfection :]
Lincoln Stewart
Difference between 8j81 and 8j41?
Hudson Johnson
good watch
David Mitchell
>Stubby hands solid numerals 39mm version Nice try, but that's the worst Explorer by far.
No, that would be the Air-King, Oyster Perpetual, or any Datejust bought used with the bracelet missing.
Jose Thomas
Damn that's a good looking watch
Ryder Powell
is this a picture of poo?
Leo James
Please do, I'm liking your picks so far.
Christopher Miller
Note, some of these are quartz and some of these choices are ones /wt/ dislikes: Beijing watch factory Seagull Seiko SARB Seiko SSB Seiko dolce Seiko 5 Orient Bulova Vostok amphibia Casio "terrorist watches" Citizen eco drive Swatch sistem51 Irony
There are also tons of vintage watches but if you have to ask for a first watch it probably shouldn't be one of those.
Jason Lopez
>goes for 20 years without a service >more stylish and accurate than a rolex >won't die if set on a table for 48 hours, it still will tell you the perfect time

new Vostok chink chronograph shitter by Meranom. Why haven’t you pre-ordered one yet /wt/?
Jack Murphy

Luis Kelly
> any Datejust bought used with the bracelet missing
Was the Datejust ever sold without the bracelet? I'm sure I've seen plenty of vintage models without.
Jeremiah Evans
40
Anthony Thomas
I'm not sure if a chink movement is an improvement or a downgrade, probably the former.
Cameron Young
I have a carnival quartz tritium I got for about $60 that I really like.
Xavier Davis
Good morning wt Got a couple new cosmotrons in last night. Regulated this to a few seconds per day on the machine.
Still no working 5800 though. Added another non-working one to the pile.
Bentley Baker
about to pull the trigger on this.. talk me out of it, /wt/
Ryder Cooper
Yeah, looking at very old ads they mention the price of the watch with and without the bracelet. I'm not sure when they stopped offering watches without bracelets. A lot of the newer watches you find for sale without a bracelet could also have had the bracelet sold off separately since the bracelets are worth a lot separately. Buying the watch and then trying to buy the matching bracelet separately is usually a lot more expensive than buying a complete package.
Justin Thompson
I have the original 556i I've had it for over a year and love it. Wouldn't change a thing.
Elijah Harris
Thank's for the input guys. I'm thinking about getting this one.
Vostok Amfibija 710 automatik It costs 100$ It's 42mm with vostok inhouse 2416b mechanism Would this one be okay for a first buy considering I want to use it as a everyday watch?
James Gutierrez
I like Aevig. Though the watch would look better if it had a domed crystal, instead of the dial sitting on the bottom of the tall as fuck case. It's like looking into a well.
Cooper Anderson
how does it feel to know you will never own this?
William Foster
Kinda ugly desu
Isaac Edwards
Yes, the bracelet is shit but I've got mine on a rubber strap I got from AliExpress for £1.09.
Joshua Morris
Pretty good, that shit looks awful.
Henry King
Is that a Seiko bezel? It looks great. Are there any Amphibias smaller than 42? Like 38-40? Or other cheap divers in that size?
Isaiah Murphy
Nice
Nathaniel Martin
>ctrl+f >no credor hmmmmmmm. lets change that.

>hey tudor whats your next big watch??? >uhhh we made a puke green black bay...? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING. YUCK.
Seems to be pretty good value for a German watch with a 2824-2.
Dominic Scott
where can you get seagulls from? I can't seem to find the old website.
Tyler Wood
>tfw I got a credor for about $380
Brandon James
Rolex does the same thing. And Patek.
Hunter Smith
Sweetie.
John Allen
Too pretentious for me. Mine is enough quality without being showy.
Kayden Bailey
Has anyone bought from Poljot24?
Michael Hernandez
This is bait, right?
Jason Wright
How so?
Adam Wilson
whata the best open case back watch for 700 or less?
Alexander Sullivan
Sugary pie.
Camden Bell
It is a Seiko bezel yeah. I got it from eBay.
Joseph Price
the 150 is dope as wel
Hunter Perry
Can some anons who have handled mechanical chronographs chime in;
What is the smoothest running chrono you've seen? I don't mean the smoothness of the second hand sweep but I mean pushing the clicker, without forcing it, is it a comfy transition to start? Does it feel "right"? Does the watch naturally carry out it's function?
Robert Cox
All you need is a stainless steel Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE famalam.
Isaac Lopez
Im not sure if this one would be a good choice
Jonathan Price
vertical clutch chronographs feel smoother for sure.
Caleb Mitchell
the red crown is legitimately really ugly and annoying
Nolan Butler
Tudor is a perfectly fine Swiss brand. Still better than the likes of Omega or IWC.
that is not an Amphibia it is a Komandirskie. They are not as cool, nice looking, and are far less water resistant. That is a new model that costs more than the amphibia, comes on a cheap bracelet, and has a shittier case and the same movement. Really can't figure out what the target market is for these but if you like it go for it man.
The Lemania 5100, of course. It has a vertical clutch for excellent pusher feel and no second hand stuttering on engagement, it has a central register chronograph minute hand which is much easier to read than a subdial, and it's chronograph functions are directly driven making them much more resistant to shocks and g-force than any other mechanical chronograph.
Aaron Hughes
I think that is about to overhang that guys wrist and it looks like absolute garbage.
Charles Wright
Oh wow, thanks for the input will stick to Amphibia just can't figure out what kind of strap do I want with it
Daniel Baker
I need a dress watch
Ian Perry
That is wayyyyyy too fucking big for you and is an actual backup dive watch for scuba diving. You will look like a fucking idiot wearing that around.
Luke Phillips
I never actually see it so it doesn't bother me. Plus it goes with the watch face and my most used band which happens to be the red sport band.
Gavin Nguyen
I'm thinking of treating myself to this when I pass my exams. My only other watches are a Seiko SKX009 and a cheap quartz Timex. What do you think /wt/?
Eli Jenkins
I've got nothing against Tudor, just that diver looks way more "showy" with the red bezel than the quite tame in design explorer you compared it to.
John Sanchez
any contenders to the Casio MQ24-7B in the sub 20$ range that don't look like autismal pieces of shit?
Landon Thompson
8r48 here, very satisfying clicks when pressing the buttons, they don't have a lot of give before you have press hard.
Lincoln Reed
What should I buy from good-stuffs.com to go with this outfit
Carson Phillips
Poljot de luxe.
Noah Ortiz
Poljot is not a cuck watch.
You need to think more like fashion watches or nomos or shit.
Aiden Harris
looks olive to me desu
Elijah Watson

Parker Bennett
Christ, that one is the lady version too with 39.8mm diameter. I think I'm fucked. ;_;
Recently inherited a 1960's cal 552 Omega seamaster from my gramps. What's the consensus on them?
Jaxson Thomas
amazing watch. cal 5xx are some of the best movements ever made. Whats the condition its in?
Adam Allen
SKX013 will fit you better
Leo Lewis
Thanks for the rec, currently I would prefer a quartz though.
How about this ? The lug-to-lug length seems shorter than the SBDN017 I posted above so it should fit better no?
Ryan Cook
Pls post pics Would love a brightz
Jackson Nelson
Do you really hate date functions and cyclops enough to buy that over a good condition smooth bezel, oyster, sunburst 16200 DJ?
Lucas Bell
What's the Daniel Wellington model on the right?
John Adams
I'm sorry, I wanted to save that guy a little. Micheal Kors then.
Jeremiah Lee
Daniel Wellington or HOMOS
Julian Carter
What's the consensus on Seiko 5?
James Long
I assume they can be had for around the same price? If so then god dammit that leaves me in a quandary. I guess I'll have to save the cash then see what's around.
Joseph Morales
Jesus man, you are worse with vintage Citizens than I am with vintage Seikos.
