Because TrueOS has the correct single file installer system used by every major OS for the last 20 years instead of dependency garbage. Of course I still don't use that either as it's nothing more than Linux garbage ported to another Unix kernel. Win/OSX/iPhone/Android/Chromebook, basically anything that's commercially successful will have followed sane design choices that make things easier for customers and developers, while Unix Kernel + Open source will always be "Fuck you, our way is better."

when you are installing FREE and OPEN SOURCE software, the basic rule to follow is find the distribution/application etc that has the most amount of followers and support. it is really that simple.
so, for free OS use Ubuntu
desktop? use Gnome just because more people are funding it

Hardware support, Linux gets support much faster so things like graphics just work better.
I use FreeBSD on certain machines that don't need it.
It's plenty secure. OpenBSD isn't meant for desktop or even most servers but you know this you dumb shitposter.
