Redpill me on obscures tiling windows manager.
I'm using i3-wm and everything just work™. Why should i change to awesome or any other twm? What are the advantages?
Feel free to share wich twm you are using and why.

Don't use a i3 use a AMD™ RYZEN™ 3! Advantages include more cores, more threads and more performance!
I use a normal window manager like any normal human being. I don't pretend to be a hacker with all these shitty urxvt terminals.
>I use a normal window manager
Like what?
mutter (muffin) or kwin.
xmonad let's you write your config files in haskell. What's not to like?
If you're happy with i3 stick with it. If not try something else.
I used herbstluftwm until like a year and a half ago. It was nice. Just putting it on your radar.
is bspwm any good?
I love haskell, and like supporting projects written in it, but I'm far too much of a lazy fuck to be programming my window manager when all I'd want are just a few minor tweaks here and there. Especially since I'm too adhd to go through piles of docs and configs on github for something so minor.
I'm still using vanilla xmonad for this reason (not even no fancy xmobar), and I'm considering going to something a bit quicker to tweak. Oh why must you tempt me with a road of blasphemy my dear haskell!
I just use openbox nowadays but herbstluftwm is nice and easy to configure.
Yeah, same. I always find myself downloading minimalist, highly configurable WMs but end up never bothering to configure them. I just find what I'm working on to be more interesting than configuring my WM with more than a simple theme and a few important keybinds. I recently taught myself Haskell and I love using it so I was actually considering switching to xmonad but I feel like it will be a similar situation.
I've been using i3 for quite awhile but I still can't decide completely between tiling and floating. It's like, half the time I love the tiling and the other half it's just annoying. I wish I could have one desktop running i3 and one running openbox and switch between them or something.
Has anyone here tried FrankenWM? Thinking I might try it soon. Looks very comfy and minimal.
Also,
>herbstluftwm
>herb slut wm
Anybody here enjoy awesome-wm?
I do.
switched from i3 to dwm.
The main reason is the swallow plugin which removes a window with terminal from which you launch X application. Also it's just very nice to use something so minimal and unbloated. I haven't really used dynamic capabilities of i3 anyway.
Still think that recompiling dwm after you made some tweak is retarded, though.
take the cwm pill, user
>fast as heck
>config both extremely simple and extremely customizable
>just works
dwm or bspwm? Which is better in performance?
Am I retarded if I run a lightweight WM on a machine with 16 threads and 64 GB RAM?
If I had to guess I'd say dwm, however I've used bspwm and it's kinda unique and cool with the whole separation of the WM and the keybinding.
I totally would. It's weird, but even if I have a ton of resources, I still try to use these incredibly light and minimalistic WMs whenever possible.
I'm pretty sure it's a sign of autism or something.
the difference is so small its irrelevant.
I know it's a reddit link, but here's a post benchmarking ram usage of these different WMs
