Is it worth coming to Argentina for several months to learn Spanish with native speakers? Ain't I gonna get stabbed over there or mugged? And if anyone here had some benign experience learning the language, what would your advice be for a rookie like me?

But if I where you, I'd go to Spain and Argentina before everywhere else.

Spain because it's a first world country and Argentina because it's comfy as fuck. Chile is a nice country but their Spanish is the worst of them all. And Colombian Spanish sounds nice, but, I'd rather go to Argentina, (or Uruguay since it is little Argentina).
