For the longest time I thought that England and Scotland were on mainland Europe.
For the longest time I thought that Germany and Poland made up the entire Eastern side of Europe.
For the longest time I thought Yugoslavia still existed.
For the longest time I thought Brazil spoke Spanish.
For the longest time I thought that Spain made up the entire Iberian peninsula.
I also believed that the Baltics were in Italy.
And that Finland was an island.
And that Russia was still communist.
Have you ever been a victim if geographical ignorance before?
For the longest time I thought that England and Scotland were on mainland Europe
I fucking hate you
You've doomed us
>American education
>American lessons in foreign geography
Dude, how? A decade ago I would've said, fair enough. Maybe you didn't pay attention in classes. Maybe they didn't even try teaching you any of those things... But it's literally impossible not be "geographically aware" these days. Too much shit going down everywhere. Information gets showed down your throat whether you want it or not. You pretty much have to live under a rock.
>Have you ever been a victim if geographical ignorance before?
I forgot this response: NEVER
I have interest in political geography and foreign cultures since boyhood
We often say England just to talk about the UK, so for a while I assumed that England was Great Britain, I didn't know where were Scotland and Wales.
I also confused Sweden and Switzerland
>Have you ever been a victim if geographical ignorance before?
Non
>I have interest in political geography and foreign cultures since boyhood
Me too :D
>I thought Brazil spoke Spanish.
to be fair, I thought this too until I was a teenager,
and it is more convenient to treat most of the Balkans as Yugoslavia.
But they didn't teach about Reagan, Gorbačjov and all that?! This was intermediate school's history for my class.
>England and Scotland were on mainland Europe.
ummm...
First time I saw Cyrillic and Greek alphabets were in a children's book of geography, and had an image of the 1995 S.F. 49ers with some of the American states' flags (I think it was published by Philip's).
