I need recommendations, fast

I need recommendations, fast.

I just bought from massdrop their HD 6XX and im struggling with buying a portable DAC/Amp player or a desktop setup (modi 2/magni 3). I know that the headphones are open back and using them outdoors would piss people off but i also have a pair of m50x which i know dont require heavy gear to play them, but would be nice to use a portable amp/dac with them.

TL;DR Bought HD 650 and own m50x, what buy, desktop DAC/Amp or portable DAC/Amp player and recommendations.

come oooooon, i have less than 5 hours to cancel, help a brother.

Definitely buy a desktop setup if you aren't going to use the 6XX outdoors. M50x won't really need much to drive it and getting a dac for it probably won't be worth it compared to buying one for the 6XX.

Which is a higher priority for YOU, desktop or portable? Budget?

t. HD600 owner

Pony up for an odac + 02 combo. Make sure you get it with the power jack on the back and the optional rear line level outputs in case you want to hook up speakers.

Get a fiio x5 and you'll have both in one

desktop

were you actually thinking of taking those outdoors

If i can kill two birds with 1 stone, it would be better, but if you say that there will be really no difference in getting a dac for the m50x, guess ill go for a desktop

>I know that the headphones are open back and using them outdoors would piss people off but i also have a pair of m50x

>?

The x5 functions as a usb dac when you plug it into the computer. Plenty of power for HD6xx too, I'm literally listening to my set that came today on it.

Woops, wrong post
I was thinking of getting the X5 if i were to go the portable route. Will those really get all the juice out of the 650?

>Will those really get all the juice out of the 650?
Yeah, I'm barely over half volume and I'm still in the low gain mode.

Is it better than the schiit combo? mobi/magni?

modi and vali 2 is good if you buy a seperate tube
not sure about magni but I know g memes against it

you will look ridiculous wearing these outdoors -- they're large and very noticeable

Whats the thing about those tubes? Do they have a limited lifespawn?

>but i also have a pair of m50x

if you want an amp for the 650s look up reviews for creek obh11 or better

Schitt is shit.

just get an smsl idea, fiio k1 or some other cheap amp+DAC, or don't bother at all if you have a decent motherboard with decent audio circuitry. Higher end amps and DACs are placebo audiophool autism snake oil.

t. HD 600 owner who has extensively A/B'd HD 600s with a good motherboard and an o2/odac.

5-6 year old motherboard. Asus p7p55d-e pro

And your proposal?

The modi is trash my man. O2 With battery or even O2+ODAC with battery is a thicc boi but also fantastic.

The Oppo HA-2 SE is a pretty good pick for Senns, you can also get the older but still good non-SE for less, only difference is an older DAC chip.
It's about the size of a smartphone, so it's one of those things you won't mind carrying around everywhere if you want to.

uae23 + magni3.

Don't bother with modi, it's too expensive for what it is and thus bad value for your money.

Using them outdoors would be dumb. Besides open, they're an indoors design.

Outdoors headphones make different compromises. They're usually compact, can be folded, do not leak much sound and can take some weather. In exchange, they'll typically sound worse and be less comfortable at a given price point.

I take the sennheiser 600s outside all the fucking time, lol. Airports, airplane rides, everything. No one can hear a fucking thing unless you're in a quiet ass library. Don't know if the 650 is any different.

I also own the m50xs too like you. Both good headphones, and even though my HD600 lacks beautiful bass as the m50xs, they are so neutral and clear that it's just what it is.

they both sound amazing driven by amp. i also have no issue getting decent quality (as in, better otherwise in portable situations) from using them without a dedicated amp.

Souce? I dont watch anime but this looks comfy.

Vali being a hybrid doesn't get real tube sound, it will sound just like a solid state. Unless you like the aesthetic save the money.

50,000 hours apparently.
Don't go tube unless you already have a good solid state.

I strongly suggest against using HD6XX outside mainly because they don't isolate from noises. M50X don't need an amp either, so I suggest to go with a desktop amp/dac like the E10K for the HD6XX. I drive my HD600 on the E10K and the volume is really high.

>and volume is really high
e10k and HD650 is a shit pairing. What many of audio illiterates here don't realize is that there is no 100% neutral source. Every DAC/AMP will have it's own sound signature, and important thing is to pair headphones with DAC/AMP properly. For example if you pair bright headphones such as AKG k612/k702 with bright source you are in for ear rape, but on the other hand if you pair them with DAC/AMP that puts more weight on low-mid frequencies you will end up with pleasant sounding headphones because highs are not as exposed anymore.
This is also why things such as lamp amps or audio sources with replaceable operational amps even exist, so that people who know what the fuck they are doing (meaning not /hpg/ posters) can apply corrections that they would like to get out of their headphones.
And no, your precious Sup Forums recommended DAC/AMP is not 100% neutral because such thing does not, fucking exist.
>b-b-b-b-b-b-b-ut /hpg told me my shit stock is perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and neutral!!!
Keep listening to Sup Forums, this place used to hard time shill dt770 and porta pros (aka niggerbass headphones) years ago. Also e10k. This thread is basically advanced shill simulator, most people here have never done any research on their own and owned/listened to more than 2 pairs of headphones.

Also I spent way too much time typing this post, holy fuck what am I doing with my life. Removing /hpg/ from filter was a mistake. Point is, just because something is loud doesn't fucking mean it's good.

most properly designed dacs are neutral, and most amps are too (cmoy, O2, element, magni before 3).

this is some next gen console levels of stupid.

Have you ever measured one? Have you ever looked up measurements of one? You don't need to answer.
You are not completely wrong though, there are AMPs that are almost flat, to the point that they won't audibly change headphone sound. For sure O2 is a good example of this. I don't think there is AMP in existence that is literally flat line through entire frequency response.
Out of the stuff you brought up cmoy is shit example, depending on opa that you pick for it, it will sound different.

If you want to talk about next gen levels of stupid, confusing impedance with efficiency is a good one.

Why did you even reply to him? His comment is clearly bait from the beginning. For what I know, he might have copied that wall of text from r/headphones or other shit, because it really sounds like it comes from there. Don't fall for such obvious traps.

So go ahead and share measurements of a 100% flat AMP. Go and have fun.

Nobody cares about your stupid theories and conspiracies.

That's a nice measurement you have there. You sure proved me wrong with this one.

Then what is a good pairing for the HD650/6XX, modi/magni? O2/ODAC?

This two brand combos is what ive been hearing the most.

O2 amp and a topping d30.

Topping measures good, O2 provides plenty of power. schiit has terrible qc and customer service. The astroturf is strong with schiit
