What is going on here?
After a linux hard shutdown
looks like ubuntu to me
I'm getting this now
>linux
found your problem
this
I think the issue is self-explanatory, you fucking idiot.
Hard shut down and get all of this . Self explanatory when the fault keeps changing .
I'm going to windows , fuck this. I only needed Linux for solr but I can just do that on a vps.
it means that you dual boot with windows and it has fuged up your system because those faggots at windox hate linux
Damn, we're you using ext2 or some shit?
did you try turning it off and turning it back on
How about read the fcking error msg??
It was ext4 , all I did was hard shut down after the system froze . I beginning to think I have lost alot of uni work
Found the permavirging.
The drive won't even show up when using a boot able disk, is it dead?
It most likely is. Either that or it got corrupted, which means it close to death.
Since you have no idea what you are doing it's likely that you are dual-booting wangblows which sometimes rapes Grub (your linux bootloader). Boot from a liveUSB and fix it, look up "fixing grub bootloader"
Not that this will make it not happen again, consider going 100% linux or windows or use them from different drives
Is it not even showing up as a device? like /dev/sdb? If you're getting the GRUB screen it should at least be able to see it. If you think it's dying use something like ddresuce to make an iso or put it on a good disk. Then you can try to recover your data using various utilities.
>consider going 100% linux or windows or use them from different drives
This. I’ve always kept windows far away from my linux install. Usually 3 drives. 2 SSDs that I use to install the OSS, and a third 4TB regular drive formatted to ExFat for shared storage. Windows does not play well with others.
Linux was on its own drive , I unplugged all the other drives thinking it would help me narrow it down but no. I also just tried a windows ext4 file explorer and it could not even see the disk.
Time to make a parted magic live cd, recover your files, and then never do that again I guess :^)
I don't have money though :(
I'm some broke uni kid
Make a liveusb, boot it up and check/fix the filesystems. If it still doesn't boot, try fixing grub too.
it's ok user just restore from your backup
Hahahhahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha real funny user
You're really only after testdisk if you're doing file recovery. Any one of these should work cgsecurity.org
>install OS that literally die and burn your PC before you even think about installing it
>what do i do Sup Forums ?
xDDD LEL
...
kek I can't believe that in 2017-18 we STILL have the same lack of patience to this shit, this is why it's still not important on home desktops
Drive is dead, ordering changed (why aren't you using uuid...?), or you wiped the filesystem.
Fix. Or restore from backup. The latter you *always* have btw, expecting drives and yourself and software and other hardware to be infallible is KYS tier stupidity.
It's not my fault , I am not a true Sup Forumsentelman
why linux is still shit, I want believe
*I want to
This is why the plan is to entirely move the rest of the unqualified to (by default) unrooted Android.
Anything else won't work.
I will be a good boy ;) if someone can tell me if it's just gone or not
Even as a bloody normie you must have heard that computers die.
Your odds of each drive getting damage or dieing are like 1/25 per year of operation, odds that maybe resemble blindly running across major highways. Also in that average hospitals / simple recovery tools only have like a 50% chance to avoid crippling / full loss when it hits and you might hope you can get put into a srsly good costly hospital / might have to use data rescue services to have more hope.
Important data without backups / running blindly across highways: You just don't do it.
I....I understand
I should have stayed on Normie windows
the path shouldn't be just /dev/sda?
With that attitude you will remain a Normie forever
no that means the entire disk.
he needs to fix a partition, which has a filesystem - not an entire disk that has filesystem labels
I'm just gonna get my fat friend who is good with Unix to look it at some point. I have no idea what I am doing. Fellow Normie's don't try Linux.
you are what's wrong within the linux community
stop blaming your stupidity on the computer
i don't know which program he is using but i think he needs to specify the entire disk, so it can look at which filesystem it is using and start looking for partitions.
in the error it says it didn't even found /dev/sda1, so i'm concluding that it needs to set the path to the entire disk.
correct me if i'm wrong but the first bytes in the disk defines the filesystem and other stuff, as i recall.
There is no race white or black they are both equally shitty and worthless.
Who knew Linux was that deep?
Stay mad vir/g/en
aw man
take it to geeksquad
they will help
did this really need to be 2MB and 2688x1520?
wont anybody think of poor goot's bandwidth costs??
I think shes dead ; (
>invalid bus
Lel it's bricked.
What make was this drive?
The same thing would have happened on windows
sandisk 240GB
ITT - OP had a catastrophic hardware failure and is implying it would be ok if he was using windows.
No, the partition table defines the partitioning model (MBR, gpt, whatever). The filesystem is how a partition (or several) is used to store data.
A new ssd for Linux and a backup as well!
i'm very happy you've learned from this experience and are going to do backups
With the said 3TB hard drive for back ups, what is the best way to back up on Linux?
alt prtscn + busier spelled backwards
yeah that's going to be really helpful when the disk is broken and about as useless as you
read the thread, dipshit
rsync or just dd
Cheers mate.
you done goofd m8
hard shutdown
disk fucked
didn't reisub
it didn't have to be like this.
seems as if you still dont understand user
Same thing on normie Windows. Its not preventing shit, if anything ntfs is more likely to devastate data than ext4 or xfs. Not that any of them tend to murder data. Drive deaths do.
I like bup and borg, but rsync is fine too. Ddrescue if you want a 1:1 clone of a partition/ drive.
I don't know, but fix your fucking monitors.
Use dd. *very cerfully*
*carefully
with dd:
dd if=/dev/sda of=sda.img bs=32M status=progress
people say that if you swap the of and if parameters, it'll blow up. not sure if that's actually true.
with cat:
cat /dev/sda > sda.img
the downside to cat is that there's no progress indicator and you can't just put sudo in front of it to elevate your privileges.
fuck, I screwed up the code tags
>ls (hd1,msdos1)
I don't remember all Grub2 details by heart, but I think you need to add a slash to that, or it will be confused.
said the guy who didn't reisub and fucked his hd.
Is this what happens when you unexpectedly turn an SSD off? And to think they told me in the other thread that SSDs aren't a fad.
>status=progress
The one thing I miss the most from FreeBSD in Linux is SIGINFO and ^T for sending it.
youtu.be
Why does no one give a source when posting an interesting pic that's not OC?
because this isn't reddit
I just started at an IT support shop. Normies don't into backups, unless it's dropbox. I have seen some funny shit last couple of weeks.
