Jesus fucking christ, is apple just trolling at this point?

Any malice can be equally explained by incompetence

>new root exploit, what do you think?
>uuuh, very nice, look at that
>picked it up from the previous version

Doesn't matter much when retards keep buying your products.

Why doesn't apple just disable the root account?
They know most of their userbase don't even know why its called root

wired.com/story/macos-update-undoes-apple-root-bug-patch/

Development OS images often have root backdoors for convenience. Happens all the time in the embedded world, to the point where published source code has the back door in it too *cough* sunxi *cough*

It does just work.

This is intentional by Apple.
Apple wants everyone to be able to access and use their products.
This is an easy way to get everyone into their ecosystem by granting everyone access, no matter colour or creed.

I wouldn’t expect Sup Forums to understand the genius of Apple.

Are we starting to see the results of the infusion of liberal arts into technology companies?

Nope, this is Apple's continued strategy of continually decreasing developer time on anything that's not iOS. This should have been obvious when xserve was axed, the trashcan was released, and FCPX came out.

An organisation with Apple's resources should not let any single product stagnate, it's mind boggling why they do it.

They do.

...

You can't just disable the root account on a *nix system. That would break so many things.
Disabling it isn't the same as not setting a password to it, which simply makes username+password login as the account impossible (except in the case of this bug).

They do, or meant to. Kinda screwed up when trying.

Ohh boy, just wait until Pajeets get their hands on the iOS sourcecode.

>Let’s recap the week of Apple software problems:
>macOS High Sierra critical flaw with root admin access
>macOS High Sierra update released, but breaks file sharing
>iOS 11 crashing on some iPhones due to a date bug
>macOS High Sierra fix not installing correctly on some systems
>iOS 11.2 released early to fix iPhone crash bug
Can we stop pretending IOS and OSX are secure now

>oh hey trump is with achmed...
>wtf, sauramon?

Sup Forums will defend this

People generally praise Apple for addressing flaws quickly, but they're rushing shit and causing new problems.

Makes you wonder just how many of these issues stem from a rushed update they did in the past. Without the code base available to us we just can't tell.

>addressing flaws quickly

Yeah, when they become public knowledge they're fixed quickly.

How will mactoddlers ever recover?

yeah, but even Apple must be considering, bit of QA on this issue be an idea, slowly. Surely. wtf do these arse burglers do all day in their $200 billion spaceship? Can't be thousands of them doing literally fuck all other than revising icons for Ives. All day, every day.

So, by your logic so long as the public doesn't know, it's ok?

you belong on a cross.

Sarumon did nothing wrong

>so long as the public doesn't know, it's ok?
Apple in a nutshell.

How do you go from what I said to that?

Microsoft too.

Such is the nature of security by obscurity.

This is why you shouldn't hire pajeets.

Yeah, but it shouldn't be.

I agree

So what, did somebody with access not rebase the update on the hotpatch?
