Buy an oculus rift during the black friday sale because I have extra money to burn

>buy an oculus rift during the black friday sale because I have extra money to burn
>whatever, it's probably just a gimmick and I'll get bored of it in a week but it'll be cool to try out and say "yeah, I tried it"
>it finally comes in the mail today
>takes over an hour to set up and is a pain in the ass because I have to keep readjusting the sensors around my desk
>finally realize they're messed up because they're supposed to face directly out, not be aimed towards me (shrinks the area available to scan)
>spend a few minutes fiddling with head gear and getting it all set up
>can't wait to just be done with it
>finally all done, start tutorial
>cute fucking robot darting around the room and demanding I wave at him
>it literally looks like I'm INSIDE the room and really throws me off, feel like I'm going to slam into my desk but it alerts me when I'm at the edge of my area
>gives me some discs to insert into a printer device
>I have to actually "grab" them out of his hand
>holy shit, this is weird
>print some random items, blocks, maracas that I spin around
>pretty nifty
>one disc prints a bunch of butterflies and they fly away
>oh well
>one of them flies back
>hold out my finger and it lands on me while the controller vibrates with feedback
>nearly shit my pants
holy fuck Sup Forums, I thought this was a meme but I've never experienced something like this before. I've never been so sold on a piece of technology before.

Am I alone in this then? Did everyone else already realize how cool this shit was? The only thing I wish it had was a sort of VR-tag I could attach to my keyboard so I could see where it was and still type on it without fumbling around.

I'm legitimately envious. I want to try the CAR horror games everyone raves about.

(Me)
VR horror, rather. Although I'm sure a car-based horror game would be interesting too.

you are late to the party. got bored with it and haven't bothered setting it up for a couple months now.

Was tempted on trying our VR now that headsets are cheaper, but I can't help to feel that these are still beta devices and that it is worth waiting for a Gen 2 release next year.

Ted Kaczynski was right.

Friday the 13th?

Now try porn with it.

>go to friend's house
>play vr
>didn't spend hours setting everything up
>didn't spend hundreds of dollars that need to be justified
>games are boring
>throw objects around
>haha it's like those physics demos you could download in 2004
>that's it
that was it

>I'll get bored of it in a week
Your week isn't up yet.

>Tried Oculus Rift at a friend's house
>It's literally just a monitor stuck to your head
>Game was boring as fuck

I want to buy one to shitpost laying down. Would it work? I could create a shitpost box where I could type on a invisible board and shitpost online.
Just watching anime facing up on my bed would be enough but a shitposting box would be great

You could probably work something out with one of those virtual desktop applications.

I have ADHD and would like a tunnel vision monitor glued to my eyes, but I've been told Oculus isnt good enough yet to be used as a general use HMD.

When it's ready I'll buy it for that purpose alone.

dude just do the inevitable and watch some VR porn. I hear that shit will blow you away.

I'm so glad I bought it on sale. Even using the Quill 3D drawing app is incredible. I'm still getting used to the controls but being able to draw something, then reach out, grab it, and turn it around to draw no the back of it or see it in reverse is amazing.

Gen 2 of the Rift won't ship until 2020 at least. Oculus is releasing the Santa Cruz next year, but that's a low-end wireless model intended to compete with other mobile VR products.

I want one but instead of a single monitor I want an infinite monitor virtual workspace.
The age of the desktop monitor is coming to an end

Yeah, I was using bigscreen for that and even with supersampling text is still blurry when it's not inside the sweetspot. There still isn't a VR-tracking-tag for keyboards/mice either so you can see where they are with the headset on.

Bigscreen does that, and it even comes with a keyboard but the keyboard works with virtual fingertaps. I haven't tried using it with my actual keyboard though, but it should work. It's pretty cozy to sit there and watch anime in front of a campfire. It's also REALLY weird to load the movie-theater scene and watch shit with virtual bots who have avatars exactly like yours. It feels like they're other real users even though they're not.

The future is going to be neato

I can't afford it now.
Maybe when they release the next version.

You may be wondering what is the end game for VR?

It's becoming the loli.

youtube.com/watch?v=6zSStIk4Hqk

And you only have the oculus.
Get a Vive with full roomscale and setup a large tracking area. Then play through shit like A Chair in a Room and develop trauma.
Stuff like Rec Room, where you can actually talk, gesture and play with other people around the globe, also really blow my mind. Just how good it works. Regular gayms seem so outdated and primitive after playing VR.

anyone else watch movies almost exclusively in bigscreen now? big cinema and home theater are best environments.

I play with my vive almost daily and I'm having it for more than a month. About to buy Doom VFR after fapping.

When your headaches kicks in, you'll regret buying it.

I stopped using it after playing elite dangerous with it, I took off the headset and 6 hours had passed like it was nothing, it scared the shit out of me how easily time passed

Do you get headaches when watching stereoscopic films?

I get you dude. I tried my friends oculus and that shit is fantastic. I just wish I could afford one.

It's cool. I've played like every game considered decent on it. Only played like 10 of them for more than a half hour though. Mostly just use it for porn because my daydream on moto z had major heat issues. But I have a note 8 now, so might just use that and maybe grab a gearvr.

Some recommendations:
Superhot, Robo Recall, Lone Echo, Echo Arena, Rec Room, Gorn, Arizona Sunshine are some great ones. I got Elite Dangerous Deluxe and a HOTAS but can't really figure anything out in it after an hour, so sort've gave up. The porn is top notch though. Kanojo, some japanese one that's named RJ188839, vr titties, and WSS (good for a laugh) are also some great adult titles.

I also got a racing wheel and project cars 2 / dirt rally, but haven't bothered setting it up yet.

I do recommend the 3rd sensor

I think the problem with having a job is that my desire to play games is low, but at least I can buy all this stuff, which is nice.

btw never pay full price for a game. They all go on sale eventually. I made a spreadsheet with which ones have working cracks too, but surprisingly probably only 25% of the top 50 games have full cracks.

Get Robo Recall, OP, enjoy the matrix

the novelty of the games wore off for me after a month. they're still too shallow, more tech demo than full game

however, i do use my vive for porn. in fact, it has completely replaced regular porn for me.

do yourself a favor and acquire Honey Select. It takes a little bit of tinkering to get it working, but oh man when it does...

The wow factor wears out in a week. There is nothing to do with it beyond trying the thing.

>subsidiary of Facebook

This should be reason enough to steer clear

t. retard
>screens couple CMs to the eyes (not even double 4k screens, because we can't)
>latency lag

You can place the sensors basically any way you like and press continue during the setup, it's more lenient than it seems

A not-insignificant portion of the population can't deal with stereoscopic films at all. As I understand it, these devices have lenses in them specifically to deal with eye strain.

Which innovative features sold you? Non intuitive configuration or the primitive graphics in a mediocre game? Are you an adult?

>WSS
what?

>buy 30$ headset
>buy vridge
>spend only around $50
>don't get buyers remorse
>don't feel cheated out of $400

waifu sex simulator. There are some funny preset scenes. Not necessarily erotic though.

>dance and sex motions
>characters bascially dance and instantly warp onto my dick
>start my laughing my ass off
>lean forward and put elbows on desk to hold head (i normally have my hands sitting on my lap in VR since i often knock things over)
>elbows miss desk
>i was actually nowhere near my desk
>fall forward off chair
>300 pound self creates magnitude 10 earthquake
>brother hears this
>comes racing in
>i'm laying face first on the ground with my pantless arse in the air
Waifu Sex Simulator is a fucking masterpiece

Biggest problem is: low resolution and latency lag.
These things are not resolved yet, so after an hour or so using VR you will feel sick.
Of course it depends from person to person.

motion sickness is caused by your brain being tricked into thinking that you'r emoving by visual stimulus but your inner ear not agreeing. better resolution or less latency won't eliminate motion sickness.

Post your vr gayms faggots

rift user here, the low resolution is not necessarily an issue, it is good enough. The latency is a thing though. Running the games on a 1060 setup, but it is the bare minimum imho for running the games smoothly. When you have a performance hiccup, you as a VR user, will immediately feel the effect of it. Nevertheless it's real fun to use/play VR, I don't regret it. But for true VR performance, i'd say wait 1-2 years until all the required hardware is up par and affordable enough.

This list + Robo Recall + VORPX

Any on your list (and not on mine) that you'd certainly recommend? FYI, Doom VFR seems to be a flop.

Elite: Dangerous and Dirt Rally seem to be missing as well from the list

doom BFG with vr mod was great tho

I had to set up a dozen of those fucking things and the sensor bullshit drove me god damn insane jesus fucking christ.
Also the little robot freaked me the fuck out spazzing that close to my face. Freaky little cunt.

I got a Samsung Odyssey. Kind of wish I had gotten a Vive instead. The higher resolution HMD is nice, but the mixed reality controllers are absolute shit. There's like a narrow cone in front of your face where they work and once they're outside of that your virtual controllers start just flailing around randomly. Also Microsoft's software is shit.

But yeah, ignoring the controller problems, the VR is pretty damn immersive. Really hoping for either Microsoft to release external controller sensors to fix the problem, or for 3rd party controllers to become a thing.

I don't know about the Vive, but there's absolutely no noticeable latency on the Odyssey. The resolution is fine, there's a screen door effect still but unless you're actively looking for it you don't notice it. The lenses are probably a bigger problem, if you're looking straight ahead everything is clear but the further to the side you look with your eyes the blurrier everything gets.

Motion sickness isn't a common problem. It's like a few percent of people, enough to be a market concern when developing a game maybe. Tons of people playing VRChat with traditional analog-style movement and I've only heard one person on there complain about motion sickness.

I have to say this guy Has the correct answer

My feelings about VR is its a great thing for a good friend of yours to have. Go and play it when it suits you without needing to pick up the tab. None of the VR things I felt had any real depth, it was either very tacked on VR or a glorified tech demo.

>Any on your list (and not on mine) that you'd certainly recommend?
I have a Vive with big tracking area so I don't know how the following are with the Oculus.

Rec Room:
Def. my favorite game, I play it a lot. Lasertag is awesome. Not sure if its your thing since you already have a multiplayer shooter (pavlov) but you should give it a shot. No idea why Rec Room is free.

A Chair in a Room:
2nd favorite game. Complete game with an awesome story and psychodelic elements that make use of the technology pretty well. Top tier horror without jumpscares.

Accounting:
Almost pissed my pants the first time I played it. Roomscale necessary. It's funny and free.

Drunkn Bar Fight:
Fun party game. My friends tend to oversee the chaperone barriers when some drunk fuck wants to beat them so I always stand an catch them before they damage anything. One chick broke our ps4 controller with her ass because she fell over.

>FYI, Doom VFR seems to be a flop.
Nah, I just played through the tutorial and the first area and this shit is awesome. I can see that the controls are having a learning curve because the game is a lot more complex than eg. Arizona Sunshine. But I think they did a good job with the controls.
The music, the graphics, the guns, the enemies make Arizona Sunshine look like a complete toy.
I put my graphics settings to mid and I have little performance issues with my 1080, I'll propably set the to low.
People are just super butthurt because the game does not run on the Oculus but Bethesda explicitly says so.

youtu.be/2y8qRnrjmDM
you guys are missing out

Seems like it'd be uncomfortable to wear a headset for 2+ hours.

youtu.be/cxisNPp8RAU

Can't wait to see your reaction to VRChat. Try not to let it take over your life.

> god I fucking love hugging, kissing, sleeping, waking up and lewding with my internet family
> walks around as a heavily modified mmd model that's unique
> can't even explain to family/friends what my vr family feels like

How do the VR headsets work with glasses?

Glasses are fine. If your vision is -2 or better you don't need them. Over -2 I'd recomment to leave them on.
I have -2.75; -1.75 and I play without glasses. Its a tiny bit better with them on though

racing game fag here
I can highly recommend Vector 36 if you wanna go fast with VR, it's like realistic F-Zero on Mars. Plays great on a screen too.

lmao people still falling for this stupid fucking meme

VR being simultaneously incredible and horrible is the reason that Silicon Valley wasted billions of dollars on it.

While the incredible may outweigh the horrible for "geeks", for "normies" it's the opposite. And that's why the current iteration of VR is doomed (and has already failed desu) again.

[unsubscribe]

>And that's why the current iteration of VR is doomed (and has already failed desu) again.

Not true at all.

venturebeat.com/2017/11/27/vr-headsets-pass-1-million-shipments-for-the-first-time-in-a-single-quarter/

>VR being simultaneously incredible and horrible

That I agree with, but all those problems have technological solutions on the horizon. Wireless headsets, lighter headsets, more resolution, wider field of view, foveated rendering, all that is coming over the next decade.

>VR games are all boring physics simulators

Go play the Xortex game in The Lab.

Will be interesting to see what the upcoming generation of low cost, standalone headsets like the Oculus Go do for the VR scene. If they can pull off at least GearVR level graphics at a

Nice blog post faggot

Wrong people got the fuds to develop software for it.
Doom VR is atrocious and is made from bethesda.
Thats all I have to say.

Any game not made for VR from the ground up is going to be bland as fuck, imo.

Serious Sam VR is pretty based.
Thats why I said that wrong people got the money to develop and push games for the platform.

There are no Duel Moster on VR.
How the fuck yu-gi-oh or Magic the gathering is not on VR.
Imagine whole stadium full of people and big ass arenas where monsters fight to the death.
That would be instant buy or me.
And before you say TGC games have no place look at Duel Links.
The game is so popular just got port to Steam and is still growing.

Used it on Samsung Gear VR. Was good for 3d Pr0n, was really good seeing the slag right in front of me, but screen door effect, hassle to set up, and having a life really got in the way.

Probably licensing. Game development costs aside, licensing costs can be massive and most studios working with VR right now are small, there'd be a lot of risk. Bigger studios doing VR are mostly sticking to VR ports of their non-VR games, so they're not taking any real risks at all.

Look at how long it took for major IPs to start tapping in to the mobile game market, of course they're not going to dive into VR this early. We're going to have to see some indie smash hits raking in hundreds of millions before the big boys think the market is ready.

I see what you mean but Valve fucked it up big time on release.
I expected at least Portal 3 or HL3 to be SteamVR launch title.
That was killer app that was needed for this thing to launch the next gen of entertainment computing hardware.

I've yet to see any good VR porn. It's always distorted, the actresses are obviously bottom tier, and it's all vanilla scenarios. I'd rather see porn games, but the only one we have right now to my knowledge is VR Kanojo and it's more of a tech demo than a game.

Wrong, some of the best VR games so far (Doom 3 VR, Serious Sam VR, Minecraft VR) are ports of flat games. Made for VR games tend to be shitty tech demos or indie shovelware. You just cant beat the amount of content of a flat AAA game.

But the port into VR must be made carefully. You cannot just slap a headset mode on a flat game and call it a day.

>Wrong

If you say so. Minecraft aside (since it's basically the same experience no matter what platform you're playing it on), Doom 3 VR has pretty bad reviews and Serious Sam is kind of mixed.

>tfw jav porn is censored in vr too
why live

Honey Select
Play Club
CM3D2
Femdomination
Virt-A-Mate
Waifu Sex Simulator

Several of those are pretty demo-ey but that's all still enough to keep you busy for a while.
I have no idea why anyone would ever want the single perspective video garbage over these, but there's a fuckton of it for all the phone VR people.

Either of you guys played Subnautica? I kinda want a VR headset just for that, but in the end I decided to wait a few years for the next gen

No it wouldn't. Its trash with no features.
>no 3d tracked hands
>no movement at all, just fixed position viewing
>piss poor processing power, it will always lag behind
>would write moar points but the battery of that thing is already dead

One big issue is that devs will design their software to run on possibly all platforms meaning they have to limit it to the weakest hmds and full feature hmd owners will be disappointed.
Full feature is the only way to go for vr, anything else makes no sense.

I got big hope in inside out tracking. WMR is already impressive but not quite there yet. No tracking cameras is important for normies. They are expensive too.
No cable would also be nice but I don't see that happen anywhere soon without big downsides.

Doom VFR is great. Its just a lot more complex and alot faster than usual vr games. Its controls and mechanics have a learning curve. Its also very performance hungry.
Arizona Sunshine on hard is easier than Doom VFR on too young too die.

but do these work on gnu/linux? i dont want windows just to use this new meme

kek, dream on kid

>Buy VRBOX for 20$
>buy trinus for 5$
>connect my ps3 playstation moves and pscamera I bought for 30$ (Had them for 5 years)
mfw I can play all the steamVR library

i just want to use one as display replacement.. i dont care about games

No way. Not meme. I got a PSVR last year for Christmas. For PS4, the titles are a bit limited, but it's still so amazing I keep using it.

>Rift
thanks for the capital, human
I'll put it to good use invading your privacy, selling your personal information without your knowledge, and manipulating your child's psychology to addict them to my products.

ALSO FUCK THIS AD

Nah. That shit is 100% passive. Just a 3d movie that takes up your whole field of view. A huge letdown after you've used real vr games.

I've tried the vive devkit 2 years ago. It's pretty impressive but I'm waiting for 4K per eye, foveated rendering, and varifocal lenses and hand tracking.

All I know about VR porn came from reading Sup Forums threads and I can still tell you're wrong. Go play Honey Select

>Get PSVR
>Labelled the worst VR you can get
>Skyrim time
>Shit looks kind of fugly
>Have an absolute blast with it
>Got the AIM controller and Farpoint too
>Son of bitch, this is awesome.
>Dicking around with Rec Room for simple fun games, yet again, this is a blast
>Decide to try RIGS
>God damn, I am in a mech and kicking so much
>VOMIT UNCONTROLLABLY FOR A FULL DAY

Got to work on my VR legs, but the sad thing is that VR ruined regular gaming for me.

Depends on the Headset

Rift and Vive are tolerable, but it is pushing it.

PSVR is comfy as fuck though. Like wearing a hat instead of goggles. Nowhere near as hot, and, for those that care, you can wear glasses while using it.

Doom VFR is pretty shit with the Rift, Valve, and Playstation move controllers.

It is pretty banging with the Aim controller though. Unfortunately, it is kind of annoying how everything is a bullet sponge. It really stands out after you beat the game once.

is pron worth it on 700 dollary doos?

Thanks, the rift also has room scale tracking now, so that isn't a problem. I have Rec room as well in the oculus store, didn't really give it a try yet. I'll have a look at the others.

My HTC vive arrives tomorrow.
My bedroom has 5.5ft x 9ft open space.

Will this be enough space? If I flip my bed on it's side that'll give me an extra 1.5feet. so 7x9
I've had thoughts of replacing my bed with a futon/couch but this may be a bit crazy.

I don't know if I got unlucky or what but I've had so many problems with my Rift it's unbelievable. I paid like 800 bucks to wait an extra week for a replacement cable (the one that came with it had bent pins) that worked for two days before everything shit the bed again. And of course Oculus only has a replacement policy and no refund policy. I wish I had gone with the Vive.

Yea but only semi? I thought you can't turn with the oculus because you have to face the cameras. I heard that you can get a third camera for better roomscale and full turning.

The more the better of course but yours sounds ok. I got 2.5 x 3.2 meters or so.
